Hôtel de Bourbon (Bourges, Centre-Val de Loire) 4 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hotel De Bourbon Grand Hotel Mercure Bourges is a mouthful, but everyone in town is familiar with the charmingly historic old abbey, adjacent to the lovely Prés Fichaux Garden, that provides the structure for the most prestigious lodging in this small city in central France. Its rooms, perhaps surprisingly, are contemporary through and through, both in form and in function; among the other inducements are Les Petits Plats du Bourbon, the bistro-style restaurant, and Le 62, the bar, specializing in whiskey, wine, and Champagne. The old town center is a short distance to the south, and the rail station just across the river to the north." - Tablet Hotels

A good place to base oneself for a tour of this lovely town, the hotel was created from an old Abbey. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and welcoming. The public bar is a little small but the outside seating extensive and varied in the garden

A very small and dirty room on a very busy road. This is definitely not the standard I expected from a 4 star hotel and I have complained to the management. After a 5 hour drive to get there I was exhausted. The other room had a terrible sewage odour upon entering it and I requested to be moved. I was told that the room was the only one left available and that it was either that or nothing.||I travelled solo from the UK en route to visit a friend. I travelled with my cockapoo. I am 69. I had to hold my dog, pull my luggage, balance a carafe of water into the lift and nobody helped me. They just sat at the reception and were angry that I had asked for a different room. I informed the hotel in advance that I was bringing my cockapoo but I had to ask them to give me a dog bowl for the room and pleaded with them not to make me stay in a room furthest from the exit, in case he needed to go out during the night. The service at this hotel was terrible and I wasn’t the only one who thought so either.||I didn’t shower in the morning because it was so dirty. The only chair in the small room was filthy and I couldn’t sit on it. The window was closed but the road traffic was so bad I couldn’t sleep at all.||I’ve never stayed in a 4 star hotel that only provided a sachet of powered coffee and two paper cups before either.||I paid 175 euros for the ordeal! The following night I stayed at Chateau Chissey, also a 4 star hotel. My room was immaculate, a coffee machine with coffee pods provided, a warm welcome and first class hospitality. The room was 120 euros. I also stayed at the Pavillon Henry IV hotel in St Germain en Laye during this trip. Also a 4 star hotel. Again it was immaculately clean and comfortable and coffee and China cups and saucers were provided as well as fluffy robes and slippers.|||The Mercure Bourges management agreed that it was a filthy room and if I had asked them at reception they would have given me a cup and saucer! ||So be warned of travellers coming from the UK going south, avoid this dirty and noisy hotel like the plague. There are plenty of hotels that are 4 star hotels en route where you will be treated with respect and given a clean room and a friendly welcome.

May I caveat this review to say that it is only the second ever review I have written and the first was 20 years ago but we were so disappointed we felt compelled to write this.|Also to say we stayed here last year and only had very good feedback. |What a difference a year makes! |We are a family of four and booked a suite - same as last year -when we had a room with two bathrooms and plenty of space. Be warned though, there is only one room like this and if you don’t know to ask then you can get ripped off with a small stuffy room with malfunctioning air conditioning- all for the same price! Onto the “air conditioning” - it was 40 degrees when we arrived and the room had had its air conditioning turned off - apparently the people before us had specifically requested this!? What ensued was farcical, well it would have been if it wasn’t 40 degrees! I visited reception twice to complain and a nice lady tried to help. Sadly though this meant an extremely rude man on reception ringing the room to tell me they had switched it back on and I was wrong and that the air conditioning was working perfectly (shocking customer service) and I was not giving it enough time - this is all while I had sweat pouring down my face. After 2 hours I called again but no helpful response so went back downstairs again and the nice lady on reception had to give me her fan! The room was a bearable temperature (not cold) by the time we left at 8am next morning.|On top of all this we had a surly bar man who didn’t want to bring me a fresh glass for a new drink - he proceeded to put the glass out of my reach when it did come. He refused to make my husband a cocktail after 10.30pm starting he was done mixing cocktails for the night but the bar was still open?! My husband and my two sons who were chatting and reading their phones, were also told to keep the noise down, in an empty bar before 11pm. Such terrible customer service so we therefore cancelled our return booking for 2 weeks later and had a lovely time at a hotel who knows how to treat their paying guests. Suffice it to say we will never return. I have never been spoken to in such a way as the gentleman on Reception spoke to me - how can you be adamant the air conditioning is working properly when the room is unbelievably hot and refuse to move our room, stating that the hotel was full - I guess all the other guests knew better than to frequent the bar as we barely saw another person in this “full” hotel.

Google
Good location, easily accessible by car, and free parking is a bonus. The hotel was stylish and our room was comfortable with a well designed bathroom. Our only concern was that our room was located on the restaurant side of the hotel which felt a bit more tired; this impression wasn't helped by the ancient creaking lift that took us to the third floor.

We checked in after dark and left early!! Arranged by Bacchus & Clio for our first might away from Paris on our way to the Auvergne region. Most remarkable was the extensive breakfast buffet in the morning! Just Wow!!

We came here for the restaurant, had a drink in the bar, entertained by a guest guitarist, she was very good. Enjoyed dinner in the vast dining hall. Well worth a visit. Haven't stayed at the hotel.

We have stayed here before and it always meets our expectations. ||The rooms are comfortable with acceptable AC at this time of year. Coffee/tea facilities are available. Sadly the hotel has cut back on lotions in the bathroom. The hairdryer situation was ludicrous. The hotel asked the hairdryer not be used in the bathroom so we had to move the fridge in order to plug it near a mirror.||We enjoyed a good dinner in the restaurant and as ever the breakfast has a large and varied selection.||Available parking has never been a problem and it is secure.

The archictecture is somewhat special, especially the dining room. The quality of the food is allright but does not match the qualty of the surroundings. The hotel people are very nice and hrlpful

Yelp
Highlight of this 17th century property: Go experience the restaurant built in what used to be the church of the convent. Charming & Delicious The hotel is in an old convent that has been restored and renovated. They have done a fabulous job, mixing charm and all the comfort of a 4 star hotel. Our room was spacious and beds comfortable, the only downfall is that my window is not well sealed and you could feel a freshness in the room. It was fine for this time of season in early autumn. It might be an issue in the winter. Rooms and showers are large enough for light Handicap but no ramps in case of wheelchair. - secured parking The staff was very welcoming and I highly recommend you eat at their restaurant "Les petits Plats du Bourbon" which sits in the old Abbaye Saint-Ambroix. The culinary experience was very good and at very reasonable prices with the options of a 18 euros for lunch - 25 euros for dinner menu (entrée, plat, dessert) according to the season (reservations a must). Chefs du Cercle rated with 1 Michelin Star.

Yelp
Good location, attractive property. Unhelpful staff speaks very little English. Zero recognition/respect for Platinum level status with Accor Hotels. In fact the front desk said they offer nothing for Platinum level! We called Accor and they apologized up and down and committed to rectify (as they confirmed the front desk team was 100% in error). Suggest you stay elsewhere unless you are prepared for the hassle and the nickel and dime.

Yelp
Mercure Le Bourbon is an amazing hotel that pays tribute to Bourges rich historic heritage. The staff are friendly and helpful, the location is great and the accommodations are top tier. Great find!
