The best way I can describe our experience at the property was “perfectly okay.” In short, I would not return or stay again, and we did think about checking out after just one night, but ultimately decided it would be fine to stay two nights. The property itself is really well maintained and cool, the cabin is fine, and service was not great. When we arrived, we found a young lady sitting in what looked like the kitchen of their house, and she sort of welcomed us. Never checked our IDs, which is a first for a hotel. We didn’t get an overview of the property, which we came to find out is pretty neat. They have walking trails (no one told us), they have a sunset viewing area (no one told us), and if you want housekeeping service, you have to tell them in advance. It’s amazing how simple service can change the experience, as all that was needed at check in was someone welcoming and informative. We had planed to book tours through the hotel on arrival, and had some email communication in the weeks prior to our visit about doing so, but when we arrived, she just gave us a binder of advertisements. We asked “so what is the ‘Sky Trek’ tour, and she didn’t really know or explain. We quickly realized that it wasn’t going to be helpful, so just looked at options online once we got to working internet. On that front, the internet worked about 5% of the time and is very slow. That’s likely to be expected for the area, and is not a problem really, but it speaks to the type of property. Any other property in the area that is looking to service western tourists had better working WiFi. We did notice that while Monteverde is overall a windy place, this hotel is REALLY windy. When you go a KM or two around the corner of the hills, it gets much less windy. The wind was so bad neither my partner or I really slept the first night, and maybe half of the second night. On one hand, nature is what it is and that’s not the fault of the property, but on the other hand, as a tourist you can choose where to stay, so why stay at a place that is even more windy then other places in an already windy place?||I wouldn’t return, and I wouldn’t recommend. It’s fine, it’s safe, but there are other better locations in the area. There is also basically no view, which is the whole point of going to a cloud forest. Is what it is for the property, but if you can stay elsewhere with a nice view to wake up to, or where you can walk to and look out, I’d do that instead. Even from the sunset perch, it’s mostly just obstructed by trees.
