A very small museum, housed in a former noble residence, is one of the starting points for guided tours of the city’s historic district.
If you are passionate about the history of Chambéry (and I mean truly passionate, because the city itself is rather unremarkable), I suggest you begin your visit here (and to continue with the much more interesting Savoyard Museum, located just a few streets away), because you will find here a lot of information about the city’s development, urban planning, and the notable figures who shaped its history.
If local history doesn’t particularly interest you, it’s better to save your time and simply stroll through the nearby streets.
Price: Admission is free, and no reservation is required.
Main attraction: Scale models of old buildings in the historic center.
Duration of visit: Depends on the visitor — most tourists leave in under 15 minutes, but those deeply interested in the city’s history can easily spend hours here without getting bored.
Information: Abundant, both visual (maps, models, drawings) and multimedia.
Other points of interest: The reception area offers a large selection of free tourist brochures.
