On our way across Europe towards Portugal, we discovered the RESOTEL via Google Hotel Search. The description sounded interesting, but the reality surpassed all imagination.
A lovingly furnished hotel run by a passionate racing fan: framed photos, posters and newspaper articles from the racing scene everywhere. Engine parts, a petrol pump, a motorbike mounted on the wall and lots of great light installations are spread across the four floors. Everything is in bright colours, lots of bold blue and bright orange.
The rooms are also lovingly decorated, the bathrooms are modern, colourful and even equipped with squeaky ducks.
On the top floor there is a terrace with a rooftop pool and fantastic views as far as Salamanca.
The reception can be reached by entering the petrol station shop. A friendly member of staff does everything at the same time: refuelling cars, cashing up, checking in hotel guests.
Shortly after our unannounced arrival, we meet the hotel manager, such a likeable person.
And the hotel, built with a curved glass front, simply sits on top of the petrol station building.
There is also a barrier-free entrance and lift.
You don't need to think about whether you want breakfast or not - it's simply included and you sit in the petrol station's cafeteria.
Just a few hundred metres away is the PizzaPizza restaurant, which belongs to the hotel and is in no way inferior to the hotel in terms of decorative ideas. This much is clear: you won't manage to see everything in one visit, and as the food is delicious and the service very friendly, you'll be happy to come back.
And in the hotel anyway.
