Of course, so far there isn't an actual time machine. But the Hotel de France, while only 20+ years old captures much of the spirit of its old coaching inn heritage. It brings back fond memories of our many trips in this country over 50 years. We oldsters have a tendency to remember many good things that are gone and perhaps brush over some aspects that were less ideal. Still, standards of service have slipped everywhere and you don't see the large core of professional hospitality staff that used to be the norm.||For a three star hotel, they provide excellent value. The courtyard restaurant is lovely and thick glass everywhere shields you from the almost constant truck traffic on the busy street outside. ||Our bed/mattress wsa firm and large, perhaps the best on our 5 week trip, including stays at 4 and 5 star hotels. Bathroom lighting was excellent, a rather rare phenomena. We happened to stay in a very large room. The furniture and amenities were of good quality and the view in the back quite peaceful. The only English channel television station provided was DW, rather odd. I know it costs more to have BBC, CNN, etc. At least, with wifi we could access news on our laptop.||You can just feel that this hotel is run by people who enjoy what they do, are very good at it and have a special talent for making their guests feel at home. The garage,a cross the street, provides secure parking. Unlike many places we have been, the spaces are of decent size too..

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Hotel de France in Mende. It was superb. I had booked an accessible room (PMR) in the main hotel and it was massive. It had an amazing view.|The hotel is ideally located for visiting the town of Mende.|We ate in the hotel restaurant both nights and the food was excellent. It was 45 Euro per person with a choice of starter, main course and dessert. A cheese course could be added for a supplement but the three courses were more than sufficient and we were also given little tasters before the starter and during the dessert. Bread was plentiful too. |The restaurant staff were great and not condescending at all as it is very obvious that I am English but I tried to order in French and they answered me in French. I personally hate it when you try your best to communicate in a foreign language only for the reply to come back in English. So I was very pleased about this.

I stayed there for just one night on my way to the Pyrenees. A typical classic French very good 3* hotel that offered anything needed after a long kourney. My room was ok, a bit spartanic but the bed comfortable and a spacious bathroom. Pretty calm setting. |Ther restaurant though deserves special mentioning and I encourage everyone to enjoy fine dining there. My 3 course dinner offered the best of traditional french cusisine in a modern way accompanied by various amuse-bouches and mignardises. Very good wine selection also in half bottles.

What a hidden gem. This Hotel is amazing. This is our second visit. The rooms are all individual and of a good size. The Restaurant deserves a Michelin Star as the food is excellent. It is in an ideal position to visit the Gorge du Tarn and the Sky Bridge which was designed by an English Man Norman Foster and built by Eiffel and is also known as Millau Bridge the highest bridge in the world.

Superb location, just next to the Château de Versailles. Comfortable rooms, decent breakfast and 2 minutes from the main entrance to the Chateau, and above all the efficient friendly hospitality of Marina the front desk girl

Yelp
Best souffle ever!!!!! Room #16 is very quiet on the side of the hotel. Electric shutters cover the windows at night, but during the day, you have a view of the house covered hillside. Large tiled floor room, comfortable bed, ac, free wifi. Shower is in an old style tub. Located an easy walk from pedestrian zone to the massive cathedral. Staff was very helpful and welcoming, and also serve the incredible dinner. Dinner is all prix fixe or Ala carte, but whatever you order, do not miss the souffle, which was so light with a perfect hint of orange-heavenly. Cheese selection is delicious too.

Yelp
The Hotel de France is a 3 star hotel very near the center of Mende's medieval center. A very short walk to the imposing XIVth century Cathedral. Our room was large, with a big bathroom and wonderful views. Well appointed and comfortable. Check-in was very quick and easy, the staff friendly and happy to practice their English with us. There is a full bar and we enjoyed our cocktails before dinner. Breakfast was varied cheeses and yogurts, breads and croissants. Very filling!
