Stayed here for four nights with my father. It was the perfect place from which to explore the rest of beautiful Montpellier. It is ideally situated because as soon as you step out of the hotel you're immediately in amongst the wonderful side streets that make Montpellier so special. You've got plenty of lovely eateries, boulgangeries and shops right on your door step but the area is still quiet and peaceful. ||||The hotel itself is fantastic. It's like staying in a piece of history. Huge flag floors and who can forget that MASSIVE, clearly original wood front door. If you want to stay in a truly original, French hotel - this one is for you. ||||The owner Cedric adds a personal touch to the service which really makes it special. We had tried to contact him the weekend before we went with the phone number given to no avail, only to receive a text directly from Cedric the day we travelled (Monday) from his personal mobile explaining he was sorry to have not contacted us as he had been away at a conference that weekend, and that if we needed to be picked up from Montpellier airport to let him know and he could pick us up personally. In a world of automated services and impersonal treatment where the customer is just a number, Cedric is a breath of fresh air. He told us we can text or call him if we needed any help. On Friday morning at 6:45AM he drove my father to Montpellier airport to catch his flight. ||||Drawbacks - the original, beautiful spiral staircase is unfortunately the only way to get up and down to your apartment, so could be difficult for people with disabilities or mobility issues. It's right next to a (beautiful) church which rings its bells for maybe a whole five minutes every morning at 8:00AM. Of course 8:00AM isn't an excruciating hour in the morning but when you'd intended to sleep in because it had been a long day or a long night, a little annoying. It's in the process of being renovated, so it's a little rough around the edges in some places. I'm talking exposed wires and dangling lightbulbs - nothing hazardous of course. It doesn't detract from the beauty of the place though and personally I'd argue it even adds a little to the charm. ||||The apartment itself is fully decked out with everything you need, down to salt and pepper and oil. ||||||An amazing hotel and would definitely stay there again.
