On the Grid : Hotel de Goudfazant

"Don’t let the name fool you: Hotel de Goudfazant is a restaurant, not a hotel. Located in a former garage - a couple of cars inside pay homage to the building’s history - Hotel de Goudfazant provides an industrial backdrop for a fine dining experience. The chefs craft contemporary French cuisine that’s as honest as it is delicious." - Mr. Koreander

First of all, Google, it’s not a hotel! It is an amazing, fine dining style French inspired food. In a typical French fashion, this restaurant’s main offer is a 3 course menu (starter, main, dessert) for €45, and each course has 5-6 options (fish/seafood, poultry, pork, calf/beef, veg or so). It is best value to get a menu, but you can also order each dish separately. Portion size is not as large as in France, but still decent. They also serve unlimited homemade bread with butter with no extra fee! So you won’t starve. We loved everything we got, the food definitely did not disappoint! The interior is very unique and hip in a casual way. The place is large, located in a former industrial building with high ceilings, and has a nice river view. At busy times it can be rather loud to have a conversation. Service: We had to wait for our order to be taken, but afterwards the dishes were brought to us rather quickly and with a smile and attention. It was also a cold and windy day, and the only available table was right at the exit so it was cold, but as soon as another table in a better location became available, the waiter offered to move us and we agreed. Very much appreciated! Overall, if you don’t mind lively loud places and like well-made French style food, I definitely recommend this place. We will come again.

Dishes are flavorful, location is great, also in summer when the big doors are open and you can looked on out at the water. Mostly meat and fish dishes, but 1-2 vegetarian mains and especially the sides are nice. The buttery lettuce and baked potatoes are excellent accompaniments.

I've been excited to try this restaurant as it's been in my list for ages. Unfortunately, our experience was horrible. Majority of our dinner party guests got major food poisoning (lasting 7-10 days), which we suspect was caused by their seafood. I understand that things can happen (even though I still expect more from food establishments in terms of quality), however, the even bigger issue was how the restaurant treated us after the incident. They refused to refund us, completely avoided taking accountability and, eventually, stopped responding. The restaurant positions themselves as a higher quality establishment, however, they cannot keep up basic food quality standards or assume responsibility afterwards. I recommend you to avoid this place altogether.

No nonsense restaurant. We had 3 course menu, portions are good. Lots of choices. Especially recommended for big groups

A little out of the way in a but of a hidden area. Within an old car garage and centred with a unique chandelier, this open kitchen restaurant prioritises good ingredient food at a reasonable price. A bit overly salty but overall tasty twist on French style cuisine. Waiters will help translate.

Restaurant De Goudfazant in Amsterdam Noord is truly a gem! The ambiance is absolutely amazing – a perfect blend of industrial chic and cozy elegance. The food was phenomenal, with every dish carefully prepared and bursting with flavor. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making the experience even more enjoyable. Whether you're here for a special occasion or just a nice evening out, this place delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended – I’ll definitely be coming back!

The location is very nice and open. The name is misleading as this is not a hotel with a restaurant but just a restaurant. The menu is limited, especially for vegetarians, but the food is good.
