Hôtel De La Comédie

Good, clean value for money hotel in an excellent location just off the Place de Comedie in centre of Montpellier. Staff very friendly and helpful.|Breakfast typical petite jeunere, bread croissants, fruit salad yogurt etc. Nice and fresh.|Bed could have been more comfortable, a bit old and mattress sagged a little, but was OK.|Some of the negative comments I have read are quite unfair. NO bed bugs! It is an old building so a bit tired and creaky, but was in good and safe condition. Double glazed upvc balcony doors. Our experience was a positive one.

Located just immediately outside Montpellier's main plaza, the hotel is located in an Old World-style building. Rooms are a bit small but come with good-sized bathrooms and working A/C. Personnel are very courteous for check-in/out. It is also conveniently located for access to shopping stores, nearby attractions like Musee Fabre, the Comedie, or Opera Berlioz, and Gare Saint-Roch. It is also really close to a tram station to go around Montpellier or to head to far away Gare Sud de France.

Rather like Mrs Brown's Boys or Citizen Khan on the TV, this comedie was just not funny. The room was gloomy, the bathroom grubby and breakfast uninspiring. A shame as the building is elegant but inside is in desperate need of refurbishment. For example, on the first floor, every time a door was opened or closed, all the other room doors rattled. Only one towel with no bath mat was a bit of a cheap short-cut. On the plus side, it is cheap for central Montpellier and the location is excellent, just off the main square. The staff were helpful and friendly, too.

This "hotel" should not be opened. It does not meet the minimum security and hygiene conditions. Windows do not close, bathrooms and carpets are dirty. The photos do not match reality. In the first room they put me in, the floor was full of water. The smell is awful from humidity and old pipes, as well as smoking from other guests.

One of the worst, depressive, old and dirty Hotels I have stayed in so far. Entry Hall smelled like sweat. The first single room they tried to give me smelled like someone was smoking in there. Window could not properly be opened. I asked for another room, which I had to pay extra of course. I got a 4 Euro deduction. No real blanket, the fake woollen one I found in the cupboard had a cigarette burn. Place looks like the haven't been renovating for quite a while. That they do not feel ashamed to rent these rooms out for 84 Euros a night baffles me. Nobody should pay their hard earned money at Hôtel de la Comédie I am serious! Not recommended!!! P.S The guy at the counter was nice. Not that he has to pay the price in the end. It is in the city centre so location is good but not nice. The street is definitely one of the more ugly ones here in this beautiful city.

Central location in the heart of Montpellier. Super warm and friendly hotel staff. My room was small as expected for the super low price. Everything worked perfectly. Comfortable bed, decent bedlinen, fresh soft white towels, hot and powerful shower, wooden coat-hangers - all the details that make for a good stay.

Great location, very close to Montpellier St Roch station and to the old quarter of the city. Staff were very friendly & helpful and the room was clean and acceptable for the price. We had a great time during our 3 night stay and would come back again. Would recommend Hotel de la Comedie for a short stay.

Functional, however plumbing and bathroom fittings were falling to bits, hall lights are off by default, so when you get out the lift you are in total darkness. Also when I booked a twin room I got 2 single beds and not a double. Place is totally fine if you are on a budget.
