Pro: Breakfast is high-quality, great coffee, friendly staff, great location, close to many restaurants Con: Internet was extremely and consistently bad, no matter the time of day and despite the hotel apparently fixing it (over the course of 2.5 weeks). A water bottle is provided when you first arrive but no day after. Overall: It was an acceptable experience, I don’t think I would go there again, but the location is a prime spot.

This is a beautiful family-run place and I was very happy to stay here! I stayed in La Licorne, and the decor is attractive, kind of a romantic combo of tropical and French glam. Everything was very clean (much better than the local Sofitel). The pool was lovely, the lounge inviting, and breakfast very tasty. The outdoor grounds are more pool/patio than garden, however. Location is very nice too, near a busy commercial district but also a quiet residential area. My one issue was that the staff did not reliably speak English so I had to rely on my poor French to communicate. However, I would definitely stay again.

Yes, the salon of La Licorne looks a bit overdone, and the statuary around its shimmering swimming pool carries a whiff of the mass market. But these are also part of the character that gives this enclave of tranquillity in the bustling Deux Plateaux district of Abidjan its distinctive charm. I loved my stay here, and unreservedly commend it to anyone looking for a mid-range hotel of character.||||My room had excellent Wi-Fi, a shower of quite recent vintage with hot water on demand, a very comfortable bed, working door locks, and a window on the poolside tables and lounge chairs. The reception staff, mostly Ivorian but with an occasional young Frenchman with admirable English facility manning the morning desk, was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast each morning is ample, and my one dinner in situ was very good.||||Of course, location matters, and whatever may be the things a visitor comes to Abidjan to “see” or “do,” they probably aren’t in Deux Plateaux. But the neighborhood is well stocked with restaurants and other facilities close at hand, and for me it was quite convenient to my needs.

We have stayed here twice and it’s excellent! The best hotel we’ve stayed in when in Abidjan. Pricey, but so worth it. The grounds are beautiful, they have a lovely swimming pool, the service is excellent. Customer service is gracious and friendly! Rooms are beautiful and clean, and very well kept up. It is an oasis amidst the many subpar hotels in the area. We Highly recommend it!

I moved to this hotel after abandoning my stay in another facility close by. Le Griffon is superb. Abu the receptionist answered my distress call and fitted us in for the night. The hotel is tastefully decorated with great attention to detail. The rooms are individually decorated all with their own personality. The beds are comfy, the AC works well, plenty of plugs to charge and the bathrooms are clean with a great shower. Satellite TV is available with CNN and french speaking channels. The restaurant is the highlight of the stay. The food was outstanding! Fantastic French fare with fresh local ingredients. The set menu is great value. Abidjan is bustling city, this spot is a refuge. I will most certainly stay here again. Well done to the whole team of this hotel, you are a credit to the hospitality industry in Abidjan.

After being disappointed by other establishments in the area, my colleague found La Licorne and it is now our preferred pace to stay in Abidjan. The rates are very reasonable for Abidjan. The hotel is beautifully decorated with lovely garden and areas to relax outside, including a pool. With the business of Abidjan, it is a very relaxing haven to come to at night. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Staff is attentive and very friendly: for example, on the first night I asked for a cup of hot water for tea. When I got to my room the next evening, I found a kettle there! We also tried the restaurant for dinner and the food was delicious. The hotel is however, within walking distance of a number of restaurants, a supermarkets and banks. The wifi works very, very well. Plenty of plugs available to charge all your electronic goodies.||Worth a visit and a stay

My first day was spent at the Sofitel in a small yet plush room for twice the amount of money and super expensive hotel food. It was slightly nicer, but not worth it. For the next 16 nights I was treated to a bigger room (a suite that was twice as big) and awesome meals at half the price of the previously mentioned hotel. My breakfast was also free and packed for me in tupperware every morning before I departed. Free massage after 10 nights and free laundry and ironing everyday! The dinner menu only contained about 8 entrees but they were all delicious. Everyone was very friendly, there was always an english speaking person on hand. The rooms were very chic, but as a MAN for the price and all you get, I slept comfortably every night. And yes, the beds were comfy, the internet was actually better than the major hotel. Everything just works at La Licorne!

If you prefer a quite friendly and clean boutique hotel you would not be able to find better in Abidjan. If you didn't know where it was you would miss it. Hidden between a Vietnamese restaurant and a pharmacy it looks more like a garage entrance than an hotel but once past the frontage lies a very pleasant experience. |The hotel lobby has a very eclectic taste and has a library, if you have time to read.|The rooms are clean and spacious and a very good free internet connection, the bathroom is a bit tired although a good shower.|There is a kettle, biscuits and one free small bottle water in the room.|The restaurant was very good to French standards and the breakfast was really good with one of the best mangoes I have ever had. There was of course bread, orange juice, "Happy Cow" cheese, Croissant and Coffee.Breakfast was included in the price of the room which in itself was an excellent value. |Well worth a try, although a smattering of French would be necessary, or be very good at a sign language.|
