Hôtel de la Mer (Brignogan-Plage, Brittany) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This stretch of coast in the Breton region of Finistère is known as the Côte des Légendes, and the view from the Hôtel de la Mer, The Originals Relais is an impressive one indeed. This classic hotel has had its exteriors restored and its interiors transformed into a proper contemporary boutique hotel, one whose restaurant (and most of its rooms) look out over the forbiddingly rocky coastline. Inside they’re crisp and minimalist, with just a few nods to maritime style, and the eye is drawn ever outward to the horizon. Pontusval, the nearby lighthouse, lends the restaurant its unusual name." - Tablet Hotels

It isn't every day that a gang of a dozen American birdwatchers descends on a hotel on the dramatic shore of Brittany, and the kind and enormously helpful staff of the Hôtel de la Mer rose to the occasion by treating this unusual group of guests with generosity and great good will. Thank you to all, at the reception desk, in the bar and restaurant, and on the housekeeping team for making our stay delightfully memorable. Our comfortable and immaculate rooms had splendid views over the sea, and service in the restaurant and at the bar was unmatched in its patience. The front desk personnel consistently went out of their way to offer advice and information. Food and drink were outstandingly good. I can hardly wait to return to what is the perfect base for an autumn visit to one of my favorite landscapes in the world.

Our stay began with a rainy day in Brittany! (as per usual this time of year!) Even though the rain kept un indoors, it did not stop us from enjoying the breathtaking views of the waves from the hotel’s ocean front bar. Our barman Hassan was absolutely amazing; he was up to every challenge he faced when asked to ‘surprise’ us with something to drink. He delivered! Not only were his drinks good, but the conversation was great also! We then moved from the bar to the dinner table where we were welcomed by Ganel whose attention to detail is beyond compare! Our glasses, pour plates, the bread basket the butter dish…none of them ever ran low. Ganel was there! His attention to detail and ability to read people make him perfect for his job. From meal recommendations to wine pairings, he does it all! We started with a charcuterie board featuring several cheeses, charcuterie and home-made terrine all of which were delicious. My main dish was veal with a mushroom sauce topped by a variety of vegetables. The veal was soooo tender and the sauce was scrumptious! After the charcuterie and the veal, I had very little room left for dessert, however I did steal some of the chocolate mousse from my friend. It was to die for! After dinner, we retired to our room, the honeymoon suite (no we are not newly weds!). The suite is a large well laid out room, with all the amenities one would expect in France. It also has a very large waterfront/ocean view balcony! The king-sized bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in in years. The placement of the bed is perfect. It is layed out in such a manner that you cand see the ocean. The bathroom features a full sized jacuzzi bathtub as well as a double shower. Robes and flip flops are available in the room if you should choose to take advantage of the spa facilities. And finally, Maude, the general manger. Not enough can be said about her generosity and knowledge of the local area. She is a fabulous manager who has the utmost respect and confidence of her staff, and it shows. Maude took the time to walk through the bar and restaurant a couple of times to check on us and make sure everything was well. She also managed to find the time to show us all of the amenities that the hotel offers with a walk through of the property! All in all this is a great waterfront hotel with AMAZING staff. If don’t get the chance to be in town and stay here, make the detour even if it is just for a drink! It is worth it!

We had a very pleasant stay at the hotel. Our room was very nicely decorated with everything you need to feel comfortable. The receptionist was very kind and showed us around. In every corner of the hotel we felt comfortable. We couldn't get enough of the stunning view on the ocean. The breakfast was as also very good. At the buffet you will find a variety of everything you need for a nice breakfast. One thing that could be optimized is the waiting time during dinner. We had the impression that the stuff was very young and maybe not that organised (several waiter/waitress) served our table but didnt't really know what we were having. After our first startet we had to wait 1.5 hours to get our second plate and only got it because we asked about it. It went on like that with our main dish and dessert.

We enjoyed our stay in this calm hotel where you only can hear the ocean at night. Beautiful walks along the coast, amazing beaches and dunes. The hôtel restaurant is very good, we had dinner twice, the breakfast was excellent, and the hotel staff was very welcoming and nice. The massage in the spa is highly recommended, it was excellent! The outside terrace directly on the beach is so inviting for having a drink or coffee with a great view. Our dogs were welcome. We hope to come back soon!

Just had another stay with you and, as usual, visit was perfect. Love the new decor and set out. Only small criticism is that I think there should be a little more variety for breakfast - if only one of those boilers to boil your own eggs. A help-yourself- coffee machine would be nice, too! Rooms, staff and experience were all lovely and we will be back.

Just had a wonderful week at Hotel De La Mer. I had one Premium Sea view room and my wife & little boy had an adjacent one, connected by a door. Both rooms (104 & 105) had beautiful views over the sea through opening tall windows. The rooms were very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The hotel has just reopened after an extensive refurbishment and is wonderfully appointed. We did have a a couple of very minor issues; the stick-on soap dispenser in my shower fell off the wall and the screwed-in soap dispenser next to my wife's basin came out of the wall. I suspect they will need a better long-term solution for these. The hotel offers a laundry service but I would suggest maybe an iron and ironing board could be included in each room for pressing clean clothes straight out of a suitcase, to make the rooms even better than they already are. Perhaps also milk in the rooms to go with the supplied coffee. The combined dining room and bar is a lovely space, the breakfast is very good and the food at dinner is outstanding. They are clearly hoping to get noticed for their cuisine and I would not be surprised if the hotel restaurant is recognised in the Michelin guide before long. All in all, a wonderful hotel, located on an idyllic, quiet part of the north Brittany coast, with spectacular beaches all around. I wouldn't hesitate Hotel De La Mer to anyone looking for a quiet stay next to the sea and we cannot wait to return.

This hotel is not only situated in a magic place, with the sunrise as well as the sunset over the sea thanks to the beautifully curved coast line, turquoise waters scattered with rocks, lighthouses, seagulls, and even seals, but also a magic place itself with a wonderful, dedicated and super kind team, where everything is possible with a smile, a delicious restaurant and pastries, and a cosy room and beautiful decor. We had a fantastic stay at all levels. Thank you so much!

The location is wonderful. Beautiful views of the beach. The hotel itself is somewhat faded despite their claims to have redecorated recently. The rooms were comfortable but somewhat dull although those with a sea view had wonderful views. We stayed 2 nights - Demi-Pension. The food was very average and frankly nothing to write home about. It was not made clear at the time of booking that the DP Menu was fixed with no choices. It was also the same. Both evenings. However, if you asked/pushed, other options were made available (reluctantly). Breakfast was good. The evening waiting staff in the main restaurant lacked charm and made little effort to make guests feel wanted and welcome. The bistro and bar staff were charming and excellent. Overall, a good stay but restaurant is making claims to which it does not live up and DP terms need to be clearly communicated when booking.
