We stayed at Hotel de la Plage in Biarritz for one night as part of our road trip through the South of France. The hotel’s location is both its biggest strength and its main challenge: arriving by car is not exactly straightforward due to its position, but if you book a room overlooking Port Vieux beach, the view is truly exceptional.|The welcome at reception was managed by just one person, who struggled with English and offered only limited guidance. Information about car access was unclear: after passing the entry barrier, we later discovered—only by trial and error—that we were not supposed to continue past the traffic light but instead turn back, circle around, and wait for the receptionist to reopen the barrier from outside. Not the smoothest start to our stay.|There was no luggage assistance at check-in or check-out—perhaps understandable given the summer heatwave, but still disappointing for a hotel in this category. Parking is self-managed, and guests need to hope for a spot in one of the nearby underground car parks. We were lucky enough to find space in the closest one, but be warned: access lanes and parking spaces are extremely tight, so smaller or mid-size cars are strongly recommended.|Our room, however, made up for much of the hassle: located on a higher floor, it offered a spectacular view of the sea, tasteful décor, and a stylish bathroom—although the frosted sliding door provided little privacy.|The rooftop terrace is a highlight, perfect for sunset drinks or a romantic dinner. Breakfast is served in the same location, but it was fairly basic both in terms of choice and quality.|Overall, this is a good hotel with an unbeatable location, but it could greatly improve by paying more attention to guest services.
