Hotel de la Poste - Relais de Napoleon III Hotel (Bouillon, Wallonia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Napoleon III and Zola both stayed in this handsome 18C hotel. This illustrious past remains part of the walls, but not to the point of bogging it down in a bygone era, as the recent fine makeover illustrates! Vintage - style rooms further add to the edifice’s appeal. The romantic restaurant and cocktail bar are fully worthy of a visit." - Tablet Hotels

Very nice hotel. Parking is good garage is great if you have motorcycles, (lights don’t stay on long) didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment, bar closes just before 11pm. No Air Con in the room. No tea or coffee making in the room, However you do get a fan for your room however it’s on a timer so every 120 minutes you got to get up and turn it on again. Would I stay here again, maybe seemed good price just very hot in the room. You do get two bottles of water in your room fridge which was nice to keep cool !!

Our third visit to this hotel, and another very enjoyable stay.|The staff are very helpful and welcoming, my room was comfortable, clean and well equipped, had all I needed!|Bar is good and service was prompt. Breakfast was very good and served in a very nice room overlooking the river.|The garage parking for our bikes is a bonus!||We are sure to return again next year.

We travelled as part of a Leger Luxuria coach tour and stayed in this hotel 4 nights (Tues - Thurs).||Reception was friendly and quick and the lift although small was efficient and easy to use.||Our room (120) was clean and spacious enough with a very good bathroom fitted with a rain head/hand held combination shower which had more than enough hot water and pressure.||The bar was good with (as expected for Belgium) a wide range of quality draft beers.||Staff were very friendly and coped very well with some of our fellow travellers who spoke only English and with a strong Yorkshire acent!||The dining area was good and had views across the river to the castle.||Breakfast was excellent with very good coffee and a good choice of fruit/yoghurt/hams/cheeses/breads and (for the traditionalist English) eggs/bacon/sausage (although they were hot-dog style) and of course tea bags!||Our coach party was on a half-board basis but we were never given a menu and had no idea of what we would be eating until it turned up. I thought the hotel erred on the side of quantity rather than quality as portions were much larger than I would normally eat and the food disappointed. Over the 3 nights I had some dry beef chunks which had a "gravy" poured over them rather than being cooked in a sauce and some over cooked pasta (definitely not al-dente) and a dry over-cooked turkey escalope.||We enjoyed our stay except for the set meals and will be recommending to the tour company that they organise future trips on a B&B basis allowing you to either go a la carte in the hotel (other diners meals looked good!) or eat elsewhere.

Lovely place. Great location. Really good evening meal. The only issue was no a/c in the room and the fan was noisy so not a great nights sleep as it was hot.

The hotel is reasonable. It can’t be anything more than this. Rooms (309/311) are on the 3rd floor with a river view. They are both sold as superior river view rooms. They do have river views but are not superior in any way if you’ve stayed in other hotels. There is no air conditioning ( the hotel is old and built from stone and wood - and heats up to the point where you cannot sleep) but a noisy electric fan is provided. There are no USB charging sockets in the room and the shower is basic with distinctly average shower gel / shampoo bottle attached to the wall. The floor is wooden and squeaks a lot and the decor is bland (although this is, of course, subjective). In our view it needs a desperate refurbishment of the bedrooms and bathrooms….some of the rooms have a refurbished bathroom if you’ve stayed ask. The hotel has an underground secure (ish) garage for cars and motorbikes accessed via a room key from outside and inside. There are additional charges for parking - approx €18-20 euros for a car and half that for motorbikes per night. Location wise it is good as it is in the centre of town right by the bridge and the food is good with friendly service staff. Nice bar and restaurant area for views and evening meals / breakfast. Breakfast is basic continental affair and they offer a half board with 3 course meal options…which we took and had carrot soup as an amuse bouche for the first 3 days! You can ask to go a la carte which offers a few other dishes. The middle aged lady on reception was reasonably unhelpful and couldn’t really be bothered to help - with any request greeted with a sigh like it was too much trouble - perhaps she should recognise she works in hospitality and perhaps try to help guests a bit harder? Apparently it’s a family run hotel and this is not my first time staying here. ||Overall it’s an ok place to stay if visiting Bouillon for a couple of days - but it also appears there is a new hotel being built almost next door due to open summer 2026 - I think we will look there in future! This is for the reasons outlined above - the rooms need an urgent upgrade to modern standards and the attitude of the front desk lady need to be more friendly and helpful. I’m paying a lot of money to stay here and felt like an unwanted guest.
