"Though the town of Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the Ardèche region of France, isn’t exactly a household name, you may recognize Côtes du Rhône from the chalkboard at your local wine bar. This glorious wine-growing region, located near the border of Provence, south of the city of Lyon, sees more French road-trippers than international tourists. And there’s hardly a more properly French place to stay in the Rhone valley than Hôtel de la Villeon." - Tablet Hotels

This town hotel is perfectly located for Tournon's restaurants and also an easy walk across the footbridge to Tain L'Hermitage. Although our room was ' French Restoration-style' and a lovely, slightly austere, suite with the most beautiful (though squeaky) floor, a grand bathtub too. The larger part of the hotel is reminiscent of a Mallorcan villa in design - which if you know the vernacular - is perfect. The breakfast terrace is walled and leads up to the garden and pool area. It is absolutely gorgeous up there and I spent time painting, observing birds - and swimming. Everything is well-kept and well-tended, but there is history there - so expect slightly steep and uneven steps to get up to the pool area - and a touch of rusticity, which simply adds to the charm. The hotel is a bit tucked away, but well worth seeking out. At any turn you might see a relic of bygone days, such as a porcelain sink from the early 1800s etc. A warm welcome is assured.

A charming boutique hotel in 18th century mansion. Something really unique and charming I always look for when travelling. |A lovely pool area looking over the famous Hermitage vineyards. Couldn’t get enough of the view!|Nice garden area for sipping wine in the evening.|Breakfast had the finest selection of cheese, meat, marmelades and freshly baked patisserie which we enjoyed each morning.|If you don’t find staff at reception, bar, etc there is always a phone left so you give a call and they show up in a minute.|Parking on a nearby place, 5min away walking, easy to find.|Many places to eat around, many wineries to taste the local wines and all in walking distance. Also lots of activities to do around the area.

We very much enjoyed the hotel and room at this beautiful hotel. The hosts and restaurant were both high class. However, the cleaning service has much to be desired. When we came back from our first day touring, we found that there was no toilet paper, the dirty soaked towels that were on the floor were rehung to be used again, and the cleaning supplies were left in our room. In addition, the special room with its own terrace sits above other guests who continue to smoke thereby making sitting outside unpalatabl. Other than an apology there were no excuses. So if you don’t mind going to the front desk to ask for toilet paper and clean towels, then this is the place for you.

What can we say to describe how beautiful this hotel is, serene and calming, along with professional and helpful staff. Now with the added luxury of a swimming pool - wow!! We are now coming back next year for two nights instead of one - need I say more.

Hotel is not what was expected for the price. No parking. Foyer is like a hospital. Concierge didn’t know what time was breakfast. Front door was shut and uninviting. Air conditioning didn’t work and room didn’t have its own control. No fridge in the room. No view.

We stayed in the Villeon suite. As described it has “Wood flooring panels, walls and ceiling with wainscoting, moulded details of sober Greek-style setting. All of those elements date back to the French Restoration era. Sophistication and historical charm are the hallmark of this spacious, delicate suite and its timeless elegance.” It was exactly that!| A gorgeous room with a large bathroom. It faced the front of the hotel but the street has no traffic so it was silent. The AC worked very well and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast included the best croissants in the village and the service was wonderful.

Our seventh visit to this gorgeous hotel. It is a real jewel the service is second to none! Rooms are beautiful and it has an air of total serenity. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the breakfast setting is wonderful! We look forward to this stop and we will most definitely be back

First impressions are important and here they weren't good. There were traffic jams on the bridge across the Rhone and all roads around - I guess there often are. Our sat-nav, though recently updated, didn't know which streets were one-way or open to traffic in Tournon so we had trouble finding our way to the hotel. When found it turns out to be in a verynnarrow street with not even space to stop a car to unload luggage without causing obstruction. I parked some way along and my wife tried to get in. The door marked with the hotel name over it was closed (is never open it seems) the next two doors along were also closed and unpromising. A passing child told my wife to try the 4th door along which was also locked but had a bell-push, which was eventually answered and the door opened. But we then had to drive to the underground parking about 300 metres further along and drag our cases back along the cobbled streets, and then try to get in again. Once inside the staff were fairly helpful. The room was fine, and breakfast was also perfectly adequate. We got a key to the main door so we could get in again without having to use the bell-push. There is a garden at the back but it was raining too much during our visit to make any use of it. It's not their fault that the access is so difficult, but better instructions would have helped.
