Hôtel de L'Abbaye Le Tronchet - Handwritten Collection

The fabulous food at l’abbaye far outways the internal decoration and my general perception of the hotel. The hotel is beautiful from the outside and has a fascinating history, but inside is tired and in need of overhaul for the price. Hall carpets need upgrading because they immediately lower your perception of the hotel. entry hall is welcoming and attractively decorated, and welcome staff helpful (though they did double book our reservation of the spa, which meant we then couldn’t use it, which felt like we’d paid for something we couldn’t even access). Rooms are small and bog standard/corporate (and we’d paid for deluxe for us and standard for teens - not much difference, though the view over the gardens was stunning) which seemed out of kilter with the unique history of the hotel. Grounds attractive but could be considerably more so with better landscaping and garden furniture. Breakfast is poor, and completely unexpectedly after the meal we had in the restaurant the previous evening. The menu, staff and standard of cooking in the restaurant was absolutely amazing. It feels like the proper high dining I’ve had in some of London and Paris’s best restaurants. Staff in the restaurant were also attentive and experienced waiting staff. This is definitely the high point and worth a stay at the hotel to experience. But they definitely need to upgrade the communal areas and bedrooms

A True Gem Among French Stays This hotel truly stood out as the highlight of our trip through France. The photo shared captures the serene inner courtyard as seen from our private terrace, offering a sense of the peaceful atmosphere that defines the entire experience. Our stay was exceptionally pleasant. The hotel was immaculate and exuded a refined coziness that made it feel both luxurious and inviting. The building itself, rich in history and beautifully maintained, added a unique character and charm that modern hotels often lack. The peaceful surroundings further enhanced the sense of relaxation. Our room was in excellent condition, quiet, well-appointed, and offering all the comfort one could wish for. The property also features a good-sized swimming pool and a compact yet elegant spa area, perfect for unwinding at the end of the day. One of the highlights was the in-house fine dining restaurant, where we enjoyed a dinner. The quality of the ingredients, many sourced locally, was clearly evident. Breakfast the next morning maintained the same high standards. The restaurant space was calm and tastefully designed, making each meal a relaxing and enjoyable moment. The friendly and professional service tied everything together, making this hotel an easy favorite among all the places we visited during our trip. Without question, we would return and recommend it without hesitation.

This was SUCH a lovely surprise stop over during our tour of France! Very spacious, well equipped rooms. Friendly staff that spoke English Beautiful grounds to walk Not sure if they allow it but it would be a perfect location for a wedding or special event The only negative I have is the food wasn't anything to write home about but all of the servers were so kind and prompt to meet requests!

I've seen better and cleaner rooms in highway motels. A severely moldy bathroom is unacceptable for a 4-star hotel. The room was run-down and basic maintenance clearly neglected by the staff. Surroundings are nice, as well as the reception and breakfast area. Breakfast was tasty, with options of local produce. Coffee machine was out of order, however. Definitely not worth the price or the star rating.

I had the pleasure to stay here for one night in July, and one definitely feels welcome from the first minute. The car entrance into the courtyard feels exclusive, and the checkin process and hotel tour makes one feel comfortable. The staff is very attentive and offer you help with luggage, offer a glass of water during checkin, and genuinely seem like nice people. The room was very clean with everything in working order, but the decor might not be the traditional style one might expect a bit from a countryside hotel, and more be something you would find in a standard Novotel in a city centre. We were lucky to have a Superior room in the old building, there are more recent wings with more rooms, but these do seem a little less attractive. There is access to the pool which was lovely to have during the summer heat, and the lovely gardens surrounding the hotel make for a nice stroll in the evening or just after breakfast (which was very good too). The nearby abbey is worth a visit too, and can be accessed directly from the garden by a path.

Truly outstanding service. The reception staff made our trip so much more exciting and interesting with thoughtful suggestions and seamless bookings at top restaurants and attractions. Couldn’t have asked for better!

This was a beautiful location and the grounds were amazing to explore. The rooms were big, clean and comfortable. The food and wine were good too!

We had a great stay, the staff couldn't do enough for us, rooms were extremely comfortable and the restaurant, hotel and grounds were beautiful. We will definitely use the hotel again in the future!
