Great location; Dilapidated property.
The hotel is located in a very central area close to transit, shops and restaurants, and the staff is friendly. The view from the room and from the garden of the hotel was nice. They have a dedicated parking lot on the property which is also nice to have. . . . . . .
We stayed in Room 35 on the first floor for 5 nights. The room was small / tight with limited space to store luggage. Lights from the street bothered us at night. It was hot; we were forced to keep the balcony door (and curtains) open at night. A fan was provided on day 2 after having words with the front desk. There was no room available on a higher floor during our stay despite our request when making the reservation. . . . . . . . . .
The toilet was stand alone but without a sink. We had to walk out of the toilet around the corner to the bathroom to wash our hands. The center of the floor in the toilet area felt soft and uneven under our feet; we were afraid it might fall through if we stepped on it - stressful! . . . . . .
Water pressure in the shower was a trickle and the water temperature changed at random, on its own, without touching the controls.
There were just 2 electrical outlets where we could charge our devices - one near the sink in the bathroom and one behind the bedside table that was hard to get to. We had to climb up on the desk to unplug the TV from behind and plug in the fan; it was either the fan or the TV, but not both.
Carpets in the dimly-lit hallways looked old, stained and dirty. Our balcony had dirty broken / uneven tiles that made it easy to lose balance if one wasn't careful.
Breakfast was mediocre at best; nothing warm; just lots of processed foods - boxed cereal, bottled juices, bottled spreads, bread, and a coffee machine. They had some local cheese, honey and some whole fresh fruit.
We expected much better from a 3-star hotel, especially one that was recommended to us on Rick Steves' forum. A very disappointing stay for us, unfortunately. . . . . . . . . . .
EDIT: We did ask for a room on a higher floor at the time of checking in. I did mention to the front desk that we had requested that at the time of the reservation. We were told that a room, similar to the type we had booked, was not available on a higher floor for the entire duration of our 5 day stay. They were willing to give us a room of a lower category on a higher floor.
Yes, there was a heat wave; not much anyone can do about that. But when the gentleman who checked-in right AFTER us got a fan and we did not, despite asking for one well in advance, (at the time of making a reservation), it, then, becomes an issue. When we had words with the front desk, a fan was promised on day 2. It was given to us when we ASKED for it again on day 2; it was not placed in our room automatically by housekeeping on day 2.
There are air-conditioned hotels in Megeve, France, including The Four Seasons (5 star); I wish we had known that sooner!
To us, the breakfast, stay (room) and service at this property felt comparable to a $80 - $130/night (points for location) stay; at $435/night (Euro1860/5 nights) we expected better - much better. We know what a GOOD 3-star hotel, especially one at this price point, looks like and feels like, and the kind of breakfast they serve. We came from one and it was fabulous! This property is NOT it.
Do better.
