Hôtel de l'ocean

We were greeted by lovely Sophie upon our arrival. It was a pleasure being welcomed in such a friendly manner. We were told that there have been problems with hot water availability so we were offered a room upgrade + free drinks OR help in searching for other accommodations. We chose to stay and were so glad we did. We ended up having hot water and the room upgrade offered us an ocean view. We enjoyed the evening drinks as well. Overall, our stay was perfect - friendly atmosphere, excellent location, clean room with a nice layout for our party of three. Sophie made it especially enjoyable. I highly recommend Hotel de l'ocean.

A big group of us stayed in August 2025. The hotel is in a wonderful location and has a great terrace outside for drinks purely for hotel guests which was very welcome given the popularity of the restaurant. ||The rooms are very comfortable and sleep was great however be careful if you choose a 'superior' room over a 'comfort room' as there was scant difference. Go for the balcony rooms as they are so much better. Also despite the great location of the restaurant, the food was average for Biarritz. Overall I would definitely return to this hotel but choose a different category of room to 'superior no balcony'. Hotel staff were great.

The hotel is very nice with friendly staff. The location is perfect closed to the sea so You can take Your walk on the beach easy or go on a shopping tour in the city. The rooms are clean and we really enjoyed the breakfast. It was also nice to visit the hotels own restaurant with good food.

Unfortunately the room did not meet our expectations, for a so called premium room with a see view and a balcony, it fell far short. The room size was cramped, the shower room was a box and the view from the room was the side wall of the chapel. Only sitting on the balcony revealed the sea view to one side. Plus side the staff were fantastic, the room was cleaned and refreshed every day, food was excellent, so despite the disappointing room size we had a pleasant stay.

This hotel is in a great location between the two main beaches and close to shops, bars and restaurants.|The vibe of the hotel was great, it had a sort of beach club feel and the staff were all really friendly and welcoming. |Our room was tiny but we knew to expect that and it was perfectly comfortable and clean. It also had air conditioning which worked well during our particularly hot stay.|Breakfast was served in the attached restaurant and was a good continental breakfast with plenty of hot drinks and juice. We would stay again when we come back to Biarritz but probably try and upgrade to a bigger room.

The “duplex” at Hôtel de L’Océan is really a damp underground cave with a musty smell so strong the windows need to stay open just to make it bearable. The mezzanine bedroom is cramped, dark, and oppressive, and staff offered nothing more than a half-empty air freshener refill and a shrug when we complained. Other guests have clearly raised the same issue, yet no solution exists. The only redeeming feature is the central location — but for the price, this was a misleading, unpleasant, and disappointing stay.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night on way back to Bilbao to catch the ferry back to Portsmouth. This hotel was not easy to find even with a satnav as there were so many one way streets. We parked our car in the underground car park nearby. The room we had was pretty basic for the price we payed. The toilet was so small it was a struggle to get in and close the door. We had a view of the sea but the lighthouse light was shining on and off all night. We had a meal in the restaurant downstairs and the meal was good, the service was slow. The breakfast was a joke. No fresh baguette but a frozen baguette that was heated up. There were very tiny croissants and they were not nice(suspect they were also frozen). There was very little meat and cheese and the fruit juice was obviously out of a carton and not fresh. All in all, this was not good value for money.

Almost a month ago, we went there for a few days of vacation. We got such a beautiful room with a view on the ocean, la grande plage, and the church. The room is small but clean and cute. People in the reception were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Perfect setting for the perfect holiday. Attentive, friendly staff, comfortable clean accommodations, including safe indoor parking. And let's not forget the seaside charm of Biarritz, France.
