I wanted to like Hôtel de Nell, but it fell short in too many ways. My first room faced a noisy construction site. After requesting a move, I was given a room facing a church—nice view, but the bells rang every 30 minutes from 7am to 8pm.||There was no in-room guide for how to operate anything, and worst of all, there was no hot water. I took two cold showers and couldn’t get a clear explanation from staff. I couldn’t even use the Japanese-style bath—one of the reasons I booked the room—because of the lack of hot water and the cracked, rotting wood around it.||The towels looked old and dingy. The bed was fine, but not worth the $600 I paid for one night. The staff were young and well-meaning, but inexperienced. I didn’t even find the restaurant until the next morning. Breakfast was great, but that was the only highlight.||The hotel tries for a sleek, upscale vibe with a Japanese touch but misses the mark on the basics. I feel it was more like a 3 star class hotel. I unfortunately checked out after one night and moved to another hotel that was exactly what I was looking for. So glad I did.
