Our trip was booked through TUI and was good value. We thoroughly enjoyed our week staying half board. We found each member of staff responsive, professional, kind and helpful. Many guests return annually, re-booking before they leave. Hotel Marigold came to mind, with mainly middle aged/older Brits as guests, but there were also Swiss, Mallorcan, Italian, and other nationalities - singles and couples. The history of the hotel makes it very special, like living in a small stately family home. Paintings and photos show the history of the house, including Admiral Collingwood (plus his dog, Bounce) and of architectural digs last century. The hotel is quirky and old fashioned with limited facilities - a rapid laundry service which we appreciated, but no kettles or fridges in rooms; a cabinet selling amusing animal themed items with funds going to the local cat rescue; postcards and a couple of local history books in reception. There is a pool table with a view of the harbour, a table tennis table and tennis court. Also a small bookcase where guests can find / exchange holiday reading. This lovely old building cannot be adapted, so is unsuitable for those with serious mobility issues. 15-20 mins walking distance to Es Castell or Mahon old town or harbour, and a helpful pharmacy less than 10mins walk. Half board in the dining room - with stunning panoramic views of Mahon harbour - includes a self service buffet breakfast 8-10am and 8pm dinner (usually with a choice of two starters and two main courses - sometimes offering local cuisine - with a small range of puddings. The bar menu is available at lunchtimes and evenings with tapas, snacks or cooked food. Taxis arrive quickly when ordered; a 5 min walk to the bus stop for a regular bus service into Mahon bus station (25 min walk) or up the road to Es Castell. Quiet location with lots of places to sit and read peacefully or sunbathe around the small, clean, pool, on various terraces and the garden (look out for the pigeons above in the pine trees!). Very happy to return - but note the hotel is closed November to March.

Friendly, personal, family run small hotel, not a chain. Rooms in main historic house and separate rooms around garden courtyard/swimming pool. Rooms are basic ie no fridge, kettle, balcony but are spotlessly clean and air con/fan is fab. Rooms serviced daily.Breakfast cereal fruit bread/pastries cold meats, nothing hot but didn’t bother us. Great view from breakfast room.all public areas very welcoming, loads of artefacts etc from Collingwood links in main building. Owner gives a free tour weekly in off season I believe.staff are great and remember your room No from start. Hotel gets return guests coming for years and years. Location ideal midway between Mao and Es Castell. Bus stop in roundabout 5 mins from hotel. €1.75 either way. Handy if don’t want to walk too far in heat. Lovely places to eat in both. Minorca seems to welcome British tourists with open arms. 1 hour ferry trip in Mahon harbour recommended.

Friendly. Clean. This was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay: every member of staff did their best to be helpful. We had the half-board and the three course evening meal was home cooked style and very enjoyable. We chose to have fish every night, which ranged from tuna, sward, cod, salmon, etc. steaks. Vegetables very very fresh. Excellent value. Bring half way between Mahon and El Castle both were in easy walking distance. Our room had a view over the bay and with the windows left open a sea breeze sent is easily to sleep.

Having recently returned from a weeks break at the Hotel Del Almirante Collingwood House, I can see why people go back year after year.||||The Hotel is not large. The Hotel does not have events. The Hotel isn’t a faceless corporate facility with no soul. What this Hotel does have is a great feel to it. Enrique, having taken over from his father, ensures that you as the guest are looked after in a quiet, professional way.||||I visited with a friend who wanted to experience a Hotel that was more traditional in style and easy to get to Mahón. Both boxes ticked. Collingwood House is situated 15 minutes walk from Es Castell and Mahón. ||||Our arrival was late and we were given a double room which was immediately rectified the following morning. ||||The room was large, functional and had air conditioning.. It has a TV in the room but done expect UK programmes. I only used it as I need noise to go to sleep; there is a timer.||||There is plenty of storage and a place to store your cases but… don’t expect to hang your clothes up behind the doors. Silk dressing gowns has to be hung on the same hanger in the bathroom with a damp towel. ||||Another negative was that in the first room there was a grab rail in the bath but not so in the second one. Minor issues especially if you take sliders to wear in the bath which prevents you from slipping. The bath has mixer taps with a shower hose. ||||Food: The breakfast was European but had the option to have English cooked breakfast. If you are B&B, there is an option to purchase lunch and drinks throughout the day with the exception of between the hours of 15:00 -17:00. There is a supermarket at the top of the road however which we weren’t aware until the day we left; behind the petrol garage. ||||There is a bar within the hotel which serves very generous portions of alcohol and a wonderful almond cake! ||||Unlike my friend, I didn’t do any homework about the hotel and I’m pleased I didn’t. Every Friday, guests can enjoy a talk from the knowledgeable if not quietly spoken owner about its history. And what history!! ||||I didn’t know that Collingwood had a state burial in the UK and buried next to his boss Nelson in Westminster Abbey? I didn’t know that the UK - just like Russia has done to the Ukraine - walked into Menorca and took it as theirs! Go, listen and learn as I did. And don’t mention the ghosts… ||||Pool:, There are enough sun beds around the pool and on the above veranda for all the rooms. The pool varies in depth and is cleaned and checked for bugs, urine etc daily. ||||Tennis/Pool/Table Tennis: These are available but we didn’t partake.||||Children: Whilst TUI states this hotel isn’t for children, if a guest wishes to stay that has children, they don’t object but a point to note. Whilst there were two families that had brought a child/baby, there are a lot of steps around the garden, the pool, the rooms and hotel. Unless you are prepared to have someone watching them all the time, they could have an accident. ||||The steps have proved an issue for some guests so this is something to be aware if you have a mobility issue. ||||Es Castell: Great for good||Mahón: Good for Catamaran trips, markets, shopping and festivals. ||||Finally, the staff are priceless. They will do anything for you. They are happy despite the hours they work and honest. Many have been with the Hotel for years. 10/10 to Enrique, Monsey, Pepper, Norma, John and Nestor. The girls that cleaned the room - whose names I didn’t get - cleaned the rooms and changed the towels daily. ||||Whilst I can’t go back again this year, I will return because I felt safe, rested and in a way looked after. Next time I might get a car or a bike to see more of the Island because it has so much to offer than I got to see. A thoroughly enjoyable visit 😍👏🏻👏🏻.

Pro's Lovely hotel for its History, Lovely friendly staff, 20mins walk to Mahon & Es castell, Very clean Fantastic views Con's Our room was nothing like the Tui picture, we were in the main hotel itself, the bathroom was great, but the room needs a bit of a upgrade, like the Tui photos Breakfast, booked B&B but you have to pay for eggs&bacon, well anything hot, so please check small print on Tui site.

It's a step back in time, but a wonderful hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms are adequate and well maintained by the hotels cleaning staff. The hotel is full of naval memorabilia from Admiral Collingwood's days for those interested in the hotels past owner. Some very good restaurants are only a 20 minutes walk away in Mahon or Es Castell.Would certainly come to the Del Almirante again.

A beautiful older property, with really helpful staff. Great location within walking distance of Mahon and El Castell. El Castell with its bars and Cafes, makes the perfect evening destination. Hotel has a very clean and tidy pool and terrace to chill out on. One of the best holidays I've had.

Things to know (on the negative):-||The rooms are very basic unless you've upgraded and we don't know how you'd do that other than booking direct with the hotel but the website seems to be all in Spanish so good luck with that if you can't speak Spanish although friends that we made while we were there have booked direct with the hotel so we need to find out how they've done it. ||We booked through Tui and there were no room options on the website so we got the basic room. It was ok, no balcony or patio, no view (other than looking into bushes) and no extras like a bottle of water in the bedroom (which would have been good for brushing teeth etc), The room did have air conditioning and a fan which really helped.||After talking to people it seemed some people got rooms with a better view but it appeared to be very hit and miss.||We booked half board and while the continental breakfast was ok, very much the same every day and not a great deal of choice, the evening meals were, to be honest, pretty awful. The restaurant doesn't make any effort to try not to look like a canteen, even in the evenings and, since not many people were half board (while we were there) it was absolutely soulless. Even a little tea light on the table in the evening would have helped. We learnt that most returning guest just go B&B.||Positive:-|However, we've booked to go back again next year so that tells you that we liked it but we've booked B&B as there are so many lovely cafes and restaurants in Mahon and Es Castell, both within 15 minutes walk or a 6 minute taxi ride and both really pretty and interesting. We met loads of lovely people, mainly couples who have come back year after year, which tells you something, and who needs evening entertainment when you can sit and spend the evening drinking and chatting to like minded people?||We've spent years going on 5* all inclusive hotel holidays which have so often turned out to be really disappointing. Big, flashy, impersonal hotels with loads of swimming pools that are so cold no-one is in them and all inclusive drinks that taste of nothing. ||We decided to go different this year and from now on we will.
