Hotel del Mar

Location is superb. 5 mins walking distance to the Old Town which offers plenty of awesome tapas restaurants, the most tantalising cafes with fabulous spread of pastries and definitely shopping! Need I mention that it’s just next door to a great restaurant 7 Portes. The hotel room is very clean and spacious with balcony which welcomed the beautiful morning sun. Except for flats pillows and a faulty shower head, we have no complaints. Most of all, the hotel reception was very helpful. Always available to check on any information needed. It’s a great place to stay and we will stay here again.

Great location with easy access to transport particularly three hop on hop off bus. The hotel will sell you the tickets for this. Not far from the waterfront and heaps of restaurants in close proximity. Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included and a lot of variety and plentiful. We were on the top floor and had a spacious balcony. The rooms were nice and the bathroom practical.

Good hotel in a great location/area with many stuff to explore. 15mins away from the citudella Park. Hotel is nearby to lots of shops and restaurants. Room is comfortable and clean! The breakfast was absolutely amazing - so many options and the food was so fresh! All the staff were so kind but special mention to Fernando (Ferran) who helped us a lot when we needed directions to find attractions or booked taxis for us! Definitely recommend this hotel and we will return if we ever come back to Barcelona! [review from 2 years ago!]

Our stay at this hotel in Barcelona was extremely frustrating from start to finish. The bathroom smelled terrible, and every shower caused the floor to pool with water until the entire bathroom was flooded. This was unsafe and especially stressful since my wife is pregnant. To make matters worse, the listing claimed the room had air conditioning, but there was none, making the nights uncomfortable and far from what was advertised. When we brought these issues to the front desk, the receptionist was unprofessional and dismissive. He even suggested that the situation was my fault for “not explaining the problem correctly”, which was both disrespectful and unacceptable. Instead of offering a room change or any real solution, the hotel sent a maintenance worker directly into our room to “fix” the drain — invading our privacy and still not addressing the larger problem or providing an alternative experience. The breakfast was also disappointing, with very few options and almost no variety. Overall, this hotel failed in comfort, honesty, and professionalism. I would not recommend it to anyone — especially families or expecting mothers

A great hotel in a brilliant location for a great price. The room was comfortable with a good bathroom, the breakfast was excellent every day and the location was close to the waterfront but also easily walkable from the Barri Gotic and lots of other interesting areas. We are very glad we chose this hotel and would definitely recommend it.

The hotel is situated very well - near the Gothic Centre and laundry facilities. The breakfast is SUPERB - best scrambled eggs ever and good selection of everything else. The breakfast ladies are lovely. I had a mistake in the booking resulting in being double booked and charged on the first night. However Frank at reception sorted it out and I have just got refunded. Lots of additional brownie points for Frank who organised for a bed “joiner” to be transferred from another of their properties as I had mistakenly booked a room with 2 single beds instead of a double. I was very relieved to keep the room assigned to me as it had good views towards the water and Barceloneta.

I have stayed at this hotel twice, shortly after each other. The front desk Team is absolutely awesome! They all want the guest to be satisfied and come back again. The room was clean and nothing was missing. The only and big problem I saw was with the service in the restaurant during my breakfasts. There were dirty dishes left on the tables, the tired face of young waitress who moved at a snail's pace, completely immune to everything. Both coffee machines were out of order because she didn't check them, etc. The reason for all this was probably the absence of Sergio, the Restaurant Manager who was on vacation at that time. It's a shame, but that's not how hotels work.

Great location near to waterfront and not far from local attractions. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful especially as I had left my iPhone in the taxi that dropped us off there. But the staff tracked down the driver and the phone was returned a short while later. The rooms are adequate and the bathroom was roomy. We had a deck which we really did not have time to make use off. We did not try the breakfast as had to depart early for a train.

First review for 2012! Gotta make it exotic :) My recent European adventures landed me here in Barcelona and I decided to book Hotel Del Mar for a three night stay, sight unseen. It proved to be one of the better decisions I made on the trip as this hotel was clean, modern, very well situated and extremely convenient. Hotel Del Mar, as the name implies, is near the sea. You can see the ocean and go to the beach from here although in the winter time it might be a bit nippy. Also, the 57 bus along with many others stop literally right in front of the hotel. This makes taking public transit, especially from the airport, ever so convenient because it deposits you right where you want to be. It is also close to Barceloneta station and the L4 which is a train that can take you to many places within 2-3 stops and transfers. Overall the hotel was clean, the bathrooms were modern, I LOVED that the floors were NOT carpet because all the carpets I've been through in Europe made me feel so icky... and the showers were comfortable and convenient. The only downside is that the TVs are small and there isn't cable, not that I could understand Spanish anyway but we didn't have much in room entertainment. There is also no fridge and the exit signs in the room glow at night in a creepy sort of way. Other than that, the beds were comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended if you're looking for a convenient and ocean bearing experience in Barcelona.

Just a heads up to anyone who is going to stay in any hotel. Look for bed bugs. We got here and were given an awesome room with two twin beds and a balcony. I always do my search. Found two plump bed bugs in the bed skirt crevice. They like to hide in seems. The bed mattress was clean and no dark stains or blood seen there. They moved us to another room. No balcony. But this one was bug free. I realize all hotel rooms can get them. Always check though. My only concern was how the guys at the desk acted so calm and I'm sure someone else got that room since it was a packed stay and the room given to us was for someone else.

The hotel room was nice, kind of small but it had a great balcony that made up for the cramped space. The hotel staff was nice and helpful, but the air conditioning in the room was terrible. It was not cold and had little to no air flow. We left the window open as the outside was cooler than the room. There was no screen on the window so i got 20+ mosquito bites.... still had a good time, but could have been better.

It is a nice hotel.. nothing so fancy but comfortable and in really good location, you can walk everywhere from the hotel !

No ac in room. Only one elevator worked and the stairs were being painted so we had no choice but to wait for the one half working elevator. Even after hours , once the painters left , they still kept the stairs closed. The one working elevator has problems as well and would close unless everyone in the elevator has there back against the wall away from the closing door. Multiple complaints from people every time we had to go to our room. Front desk laughed at one point and acted like he didn't understand English when another customer was complaining about the long wait. I'm not sure how often in Europe they get the elevators inspected but where I'm from, it's expected to have them inspected annually. The no ac wouldn't have been a problem given it's March and it's cool outside. But when you leave the window open , there's no screen or anything from blocking the bugs from coming in. Also there's no privacy since the other rooms all have there window open as well since it's so hot in the hotel. During the day it's not manageable and I would recommend leaving early and staying away until the sun goes down so it's not piping hot even when it's cold outside.

I have never received worse service. The receptionist pretended to be the owner... was so arrogant and got in our faces almost as if he was going to punch us. All we wanted was to see how much breakfast and what it looked like.. but apparently you cant enter a hotels restaurant without being a guest.. according to the "owner" sitting at the reception it is unseen to go check out a hotels restaurant

great place if you want a modern room and a location near the city center with the advantage of the metro' at 50 meters from the hotel. rooms is clean. breakfast is bad! it's better if you do it in a bar! it's not expensive at all..

Lousy rip-off! Don't book this hotel! Our flight was cancelled, and there was no way to reach the hotel. The hotel claimed the FULL PRICE even if we weren't there. The hotel responded very very rude to our demand. Thanks for the 'good' service. Never ever again! Don't book this hotel.
