Hotel della Fortezza

Wow!! What a beautiful surprise this was! We were staying in a hotel 5 minutes out of Sorano, and after coming here for dinner, we booked two rooms the following night for the final night of our 3 week holiday. One of the holiday highlights! Amazing historical fortress that has been beautifully renovated with a mix of old and new. Staff were so friendly and the food was spectacular. My only complaint is that their restaurant was closed on a Wednesday so we couldn't eat there two nights in a row! But all was fine, Sorano has many beautiful bars and restaurants, as do the surrounding villages. Highly recommend, and we will definitely stay there again if we can.

An absolute gem in Tuscany! Our stay at Della Fortezza Hotel was simply perfect. From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcome.The owners (Cristiano & Silvia) are exceptionally kind and helpful, just like the entire team. Here you can really feel what genuine hospitality is all about — people working with passion and heart for what they do. You notice it in every detail the warm welcome, the service, the breakfast, and the atmosphere throughout the hotel. The location is unique, full of charm, peace, and authentic Tuscan character. Everything is beautifully maintained, with great attention to detail and respect for local tradition. The restaurant is a true highlight pure, local, and driven by passion. Every dish tells a story of Tuscany honest, flavorful, and prepared with love. The location is unique, peaceful, and full of authentic Tuscan character. We stayed 4 nights at Hotel Della Fortezza and can absolutely say this was the highlight of our 17 day trip through Tuscany. From our arrival until the moment we left the hospitality of Cristiano, Sylvia and their team was absolutely spot on. Room was amazing, bed very comfortable, and the afternoon drinks and dinners in the restaurant were perfect. Even more when they were accompanied by an amazing sunset. We will definitely be back! I had visited this place 14 years ago and was fascinated then. Now clearly a level up. Where can you stay in an old fortress like this overlooking the old “Borgo” of Sorano? The shell of the medieval times, but the amenities of the 21st century. The place has kept its old charm and looking out of the window of your room is an extraordinary experience. The Suite 15 I stayed in was well equipped with all you need with the bed one level up (with ventilators instead of air conditioning). Great experience- 5 points. Attached to the hotel there is an excellent, higher level restaurant which offers aperitivi and dinner (also in the courtyard of the castle).

Absolutely beautiful hotel on breathtaking location, something truly special indeed. As it is a castle the rooms are not ”normal” from air conditioning point of view as you’d expect but it doesn’t take away how special the experience is, actually it highlights it. Excellent customer service and the restaurant and also the breakfast more than meets the expectations! Highly recommended as a stop on road trip through Tuscany!

We cannot say enough about this wonderful hotel! Our room was so comfortable and we had a beautiful view of the town below and the surrounding countryside. Our breakfast each morning was a delicious smorgasbord of cheeses, meats, fruit, yogurt and various cakes and breads. Don't miss having dinner here. Some of the best meals we had on this trip! The greatest staff. If you are travelling in the area, you must stay here. And make sure you take the wine tour with the owner! Quite the story.||Marg Davies and Cheryl Griffith

Stayed one night in the beautiful village of Sorano and the just as nice Hotel Della Fortezza. The historic building is well kept and you can almost feel the history in the walls. The hotel is almost situated "on top of" the city, and has marvellous views. It's also a parking close by, so it was easy access, which is not always the case in Italy. ||The room we got was nice with splendid views from the (little) window. It however had a bit of seward smell from in the bathroom, and it also seemed to have some kind of leak coming from the walls. Could be dure to it being in a old stone building, but we made sure to keep the door shut. Breakfast was also just average, with not very welcoming "baristas" and a bit strange ordering system (some at additional charge). All in all though, we would absolutely recommend to stay there, at least once, to get this great experience.

I had organised my birthday here with a group of friends, and I truly cannot recommend this hotel enough or more highly - not only is the hotel stunning, with lovely rooms and the most beautiful views, the staff were so welcoming, helpful and friendly, and it was really the most wonderful stay. For anyone planning an event for a big group, Cristiano and Silvia (and the whole team) are professional, passionate and lovely people - they were so willing to work with me on bringing the vision to life, and went above and beyond to ensure we had the most special stay. Everything from the decor to the food to the service to the wine were absolutely top notch, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience or a better team to work with. The hotel is an absolute hidden gem in this area of Tuscany and I am so happy I was able to come here before it explodes in popularity, as it surely will. Huge thank you to the whole team.
