The spectacular clifftop setting of this ancient military fortress left us awestruck. Our bedroom was spotlessly clean and very comfortable ... and in terms of location absolutely vertiginous, the window affording amazing views over the historic Etruscan town of Sorano far below. The free parking close to the hotel was a great relief after the severe traffic congestion in Tuscany this September. The breakfast buffet was varied, generous and delicious. The undisputed highlight of our stay was our host Sylvia. She was unfailingly warm, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and approachable and did her utmost to make our stay a happy one. Sylvia clearly has a deep passion for the town's Etruscan heritage which on request she shared with us, inspiring us to stay a second night to allow further exploration of the area. Would have stayed longer if we could. A truly great experience. A truly wonderful host. An absolutely fabulous setting. Ten out of ten.

Very, VERY cool experience. We got to sleep in the top of the tower bedroom, and it was incredible. Yeah, it comes with some small issues here and there (tiny bathroom, walk up a bunch of stairs…), but the experience makes all good. The staff was super nice, gave us some very cool tips about other towns around. The breakfast was good (nothing special but good). Park outside the city and walk to it. Do not try to get close to the hotel with your car because you won’t be able to and might get fined.

The experience was awesome. Hosts were fantastic for information about the area. The village was so wonderful. Just seeing the country from the advantage point of the castle was worth it. Excellent breakfast! A real treasure! Do not hesitate to spend time there.

Unforgettable experience...our room was in the tower! Don't stay in the tower if you have mobility issues as there are steep steps in the room from the loo to the bedroom. ||Amazing views. Staff superb. Breakfast fantastic buffet.||Walked to San Quirico through the woods and caught bus back...Google bus times worked and they are around school pick up times.||Very memorable stay.

Our experience with Hotel Della Fortezza was a dream as soon as we walked into the reception to check in. The woman (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) who checked us in was incredibly helpful and offered up knowledge about Sorano, as well as the surrounding towns. She was such a breath of fresh air after a long trip in. Our room was even better than I was expecting with incredible views of Sorano below. The breakfast in the morning was very good value for the 9€/person and had very high quality food on offer. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Dal momento che abbiamo messo piedi in questo incantevole luogo, abbiamo capito che i nostri due giorni sarebbero speciali. Adesso scrivo in inglese: a wonderful welcome from Silvia started us off along the right path. This place is incredible and we enjoyed every minute of our two-day stay. Our room was superbly furnished and the bed really comfortable. The breakfast, with fresh fruit, yoghurt, ricotta, cakes etc etc (and eggs and bacon etc if wanted) was probably the best breakfast we have had in an Italian hotel and we have travelled extensively! What a setting - overlooking the amazing rooftops and views of the mountains - I had to keep pinching myself I wasn't dreaming. We also went on a night walk of the Via Cave (the hollowed walkways), with Lorenzo, an excellent guide recommended by our hosts and learned more about the Etruscans. Highly recommended! We repeated it the following day on our own and discovered extra caves below the viewing point. The restaurant run by the owners: Fidalma, is wonderful too. Delicious food with local produce. The walk back up the hill was necessary to walk off some of our greediness. I could go on and on - suffice it to say that this is one of the best places we have ever stayed in and we really want to return. Thank you for such a great place that you have created with obvious love and dedication. And it is truly great value. Torneremo l'anno prossimo e rimarremo per piu giorni. Grazie, grazie, grazie. (I know I sound over the top, but it truly is a wonderful place to stay.)

Fantastic experience! The lovely ladies from the reception were very friendly and helpful. We got a mini apartment (room 7) and we were pleasantly surprised by this, we had air conditioning and everything was very clean. The bed is super comfortable and the rooms are superbly renovated, they kept the charm of the old but the comfort of the new. One a of kind experience at a reasonable price. The bar in the front has a great Aperol, perfect before going to lunch or after a great afternoon nap.

Was impressed with the grand, imposing fortress set among Tuscan countryside. Staff were incredibly welcoming and guided us to local tourist areas. Our room was at the very top of the fortress with amazing views, bathroom facilities were lovely, however not having any air conditioning in the bedroom (there was an electric fan) and eating areas was at times difficult, especially at night. There were also no tea and coffee facilities in the room, when I requested if we could have a station for room beverages we were told no, however there was a small fridge in situ for small bottles. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but without a vehicle available to us to explore other areas, we would have found our stay somewhat difficult. We visited Lake Bolsena which was stunning, akin to Lake Garda and other villages up in the mountains Orvieto being spectacular.. I was surprised that these and other beautiful areas were not shown to us. Breakfast as the Fortress was lacked imagination, the basics were available, if guests wanted any extras, there would be a charge. Food in the local restaurant, Sorano next to the Pizzeria was beautiful..
