Wow!! What a beautiful surprise this was! We were staying in a hotel 5 minutes out of Sorano, and after coming here for dinner, we booked two rooms the following night for the final night of our 3 week holiday. One of the holiday highlights! Amazing historical fortress that has been beautifully renovated with a mix of old and new. Staff were so friendly and the food was spectacular. My only complaint is that their restaurant was closed on a Wednesday so we couldn't eat there two nights in a row! But all was fine, Sorano has many beautiful bars and restaurants, as do the surrounding villages. Highly recommend, and we will definitely stay there again if we can.

Have you ever dreamt of staying at a fortress from the 12th century? The Fortezza Orsini is a magnificent building in the small town of Sorano, truly worth a visit. And within the fortress you find the Hotel della Fortezza – which is a hidden gem we wholeheartedly recommend. The building itself is amazing, but equally amazing were the people working at the Fortezza. Communication both before arrival and during our stay was informative, personal and professional. We arrived late at night, after the reception had closed, but the instructions left for us gave us no problem finding our rooms and getting settled in. The owner and his lovely wife made this a truly magical place to visit. Breakfast was one of the best we had while in Italy. Please be aware that this is a hotel in a very old building. The rooms are lovely; modern and up to date while still providing plenty of rustic charm, but there are stairs to access the rooms. We have stayed in many hotels throughout the years, and would rate this as one of our absolute favourites. We also highly recommend dinner at their restaurant EnoRistrò.

An absolute gem in Tuscany! Our stay at Della Fortezza Hotel was simply perfect. From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcome. The owners (Cristiano & Silvia) are exceptionally kind and helpful, just like the entire team. Here you can really feel what genuine hospitality is all about — people working with passion and heart for what they do. You notice it in every detail the warm welcome, the service, the breakfast, and the atmosphere throughout the hotel. The location is unique, full of charm, peace, and authentic Tuscan character. Everything is beautifully maintained, with great attention to detail and respect for local tradition. The restaurant is a true highlight pure, local, and driven by passion. Every dish tells a story of Tuscany honest, flavorful, and prepared with love. The location is unique, peaceful, and full of authentic Tuscan character. Everything is beautifully maintained with great attention to detail and respect for tradition. We look back on our stay with great joy and will definitely return. A true recommendation for anyone looking for an authentic, heartfelt, and unforgettable Tuscan experience. Hopefully, we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you to Bonaire one day! Thanks!

I had visited this place 14 years ago and was fascinated then. Now clearly a level up. Where can you stay in an old fortress like this overlooking the old “Borgo” of Sorano? The shell of the medieval times, but the amenities of the 21st century. The place has kept its old charm and looking out of the window of your room is an extraordinary experience. The Suite 15 I stayed in was well equipped with all you need with the bed one level up (with ventilators instead of air conditioning). Great experience- 5 points. Attached to the hotel there is an excellent, higher level restaurant which offers aperitivi and dinner (also in the courtyard of the castle).

This is a place you must experience to truly understand how unique and great it is. From the rooms, to the views, to the history, to the food & wine, to the wonderful people, it is a place not to be missed when visiting Italy. It is a great place to use as a base to visit other places, such as Montepulciano, Pienza, Sienna, Assisi, Orvieto, and the list goes on.

We stayed 4 nights at Hotel Della Fortezza and can absolutely say this was the highlight of our 17 day trip through Tuscany. From our arrival until the moment we left the hospitality of Cristiano, Sylvia and their team was absolutely spot on. Room was amazing, bed very comfortable, and the afternoon drinks and dinners in the restaurant were perfect. Even more when they were accompanied by an amazing sunset. We will definitely be back! Hugs from Bonaire

Absolutely beautiful hotel on breathtaking location, something truly special indeed. As it is a castle the rooms are not ”normal” from air conditioning point of view as you’d expect but it doesn’t take away how special the experience is, actually it highlights it. Excellent customer service and the restaurant and also the breakfast more than meets the expectations! Highly recommended as a stop on road trip through Tuscany!

Outstanding in every way! What a gem. Where do I start on our experience? The location is amazing. On top of a picturesque hillside with easy walkability to the charming town. There are only a handful of fortresses this old that you can stay at in the world. The rooms were very comfortable, with newly renovated bathrooms and excellent smelling and quality olive oil toiletries. Room has a mini fridge. There is history and education everywhere you look through the hallways. All of the food served is locally sourced and organic. The vegetables and olive oil are grown on site. Bravo to the chef who is making amazing food in the kitchen, you can tell they are making it with love. The best meal on our trip so far. The warm pear starter was so good we ordered a second one. All of the staff and the owner offer warm and sincere service. You can tell they care about the maintenance of the fortress and ensuring their guest have an amazing time. They are dog friendly, and we saw multiple dogs throughout our stay. If time permits take the wine cellar and wine tasting tour. They are producing limited batches of unique award winning wines that were excellent. Worth a trip out of your way to come here. Next to a thermal water resort and spa that you can visit for the day and a reasonable and scenic drive to Civita di Bagnoregio.
