11 Best Affordable Hotels in Los Angeles for Under $300 a Night | Condé Nast Traveler

"Steps from Old Town Pasadena’s restaurants and boutiques, this full-service hotel channels the city’s historic theater scene into a contemporary stay, with public spaces that feel more like a modern gallery than a standard lobby thanks to rotating art displays, bold colors, and sociable areas for meeting up before or after a show. Guest rooms follow a clean, modern aesthetic with graphic headboards, accented walls, curated local artwork, and streamlined furniture that add personality without overwhelming, while large windows pull in California light and frame views of either the San Gabriel Mountains or tree-lined streets and historic buildings, and bright, functional bathrooms with walk-in showers, oversized mirrors, and simple black-and-white tile nod to classic Pasadena design and a blend of historic charm, artistic sensibility, and relaxed California warmth." - Paris Wilson

I stayed here on December 29 and had a disappointing experience after checkout. The hotel charged $52.74 to my credit card, yet my receipt shows no charges at all and no itemized explanation was provided. Authorization holds are understandable, but this amount actually posted to my card without any justification, which is unacceptable. I had to follow up myself to figure out what this charge was supposed to be. Transparency in billing is basic for any hotel. Unfortunately, this stay left me with unnecessary stress after checkout. Would not recommend unless billing practices improve.

We had a lovely stay at the Hotel Dena. The front desk staff was super helpful when we checked in and helped with our luggage even though they don’t have a bell service. The suite was large and comfortable. The location was super convenient to old town Pasadena, dining, and shopping. We would stay here again. The biggest shoutout to Jose in Lyric restaurant. He was our server for breakfast the four days we stayed there. We had our 5 month old and 3 1/2 year old with us and dining with kids can always be a challenge. He was so incredibly kind and accommodating to us and our kids. He went above and beyond with his service. Cannot say enough nice things!! The service here is the main reason we will be recommending this hotel to friends and family.

I've never had to make a review like this. We had one of the best experiences at this hotel. Everything was so good from the beginning until we checked out. There was issue where they didn't clean the room on the second day even though we called and asked them to. But they did it the next day. The reason I'm giving them one star is because they charged almost a $1000 for nothing. I had to go to the third party I booked the hotel through to get it sorted out. Hotel Dena charged me almost $1000 even though I had already paid through a third party. It was so stressful. How can a hotel do that? They check in people all the time. I can't trust them after this. It's really sad because the hotel itself was great, the people were great, the location was great. Very sad for the entire experience to be ruined retroactively by something so foolish as trying to take $1000 from me.

All things considered it's an okay hotel. Friendly staff, a small 24 hour convenience store downstairs, the food at the restaurant was good. But honestly in my opinion it's overpriced and would rather day at the Westin or Hilton in the area than Dena again. The rooms felt small, even with a king bed, Room service, forgot to make the bed or change sheets, which was odd as they clenaed and changed the towels in the bathroom, I thought it may have been my fault as some hotels require you to put a card on the bed, but I think they just said, nope, not today. Also, their toilet roll holder which is attached to cabient is a cut hazard. I can totally see someone cutting their hand on it

The location is about all the hotel has going for it. Small rooms, hard bed, deflated pillows. To top it all off there was a BLOOD stain on my sheets. Total letdown given how the hotel was marketed. Not the mention 30 bucks to park daily. Bar and food is expensive and windows are thin so you hear traffic and sirens all night. The Sheraton in San Gabriel is a far better choice.

There were a lot of bugs in the first room we stayed in, so we were moved into a smaller room. Even then there were still roaches and water bugs in that room. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating but they seemed very uncertain about the fees for parking. It's a very convenient location if you're attending an event at the convention center, but the rooms were pretty gross and policies felt unclear.

Hotel Dena is amazing. I stay here about once a month for business and I have always had a great experience. Big thanks to Lyric restaurant and Rosie. She has always been amazing and so incredibly friendly!

Very old rooms, renovated from an old apartment setting. Coffee machines from the 80s. Iron is missing from the room. Ironing board was not updated since the 80s. Breakfast is better than expected. Staff is good looking and nice. Location is not bad.
