This hotel was perfectly situated for us, near town and where friends were living, with free parking very close by. It was very comfortable, clean with TV. The bed was as comfortable as my own. The staff were friendly, especially the cleaners who were very helpful when the temperature dropped and we needed a heater. My window overlooked the river and cathedral and had a balcony. Beautiful view at night. We didn't have any meals there so cannot comment on the food. Value for money. I would stay there again.

We stayed for one evening and were very happy. The room is small which can mean very hot however for the price you can't argue - at least it's clean and welcoming. What gives this place 5 stars is the staff. We were greeted by an American girl who was so polite and friendly. She showed us a couple of room choices and advised us where to eat which was the best advice as we had one memorable stunning meal. We left our shirt in the room and had to email the hotel a few days later - what a pleasant surprise to have such amazing service!!! Responded within minutes and very helpful. We have now received the top in the post without any hassle. They were more than happy to assist. Customer service exceptional and we will be recommending this place to family and friends. Well done

Perfect hotel for our stay in Périgueux, reasonable prices and great location just a short walk across the bridge to get into the town center and along the river with an unique view of the cathedral. The staff was exceptional and spoke several languages, making it easier for us being non-french speakers. And most importantly, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable (that plus our jet lag meant that we slept very well!). What I loved most was that the hotel and restaurant have the typical European charm that often lack in the chain hotels.

Just checked in to a room for €50 a night. I’m told this is amazing price, but based on the couple I’m with getting a renovated room for the same price, my dingy, dated room doesn’t see so good. Also, I was informed by the lady on reception that the spiders’ webs and dead insects decorating the walls in my room are due to the fact that it is ‘old’. I pointed out the fact that age and cleanliness are not mutually exclusive. I was, however, offered a ‘clean’ room upstairs for €75. How very kind. If you want to stay somewhere clean and newly renovated, perhaps avoid this hotel!

Looking out to the river. Things were generally good, but shower had amind of its own. Ocellent bistro style restaurant. Staff were excellent and very helpful. I would probably stay here again. Good base for exploring on foot. Rather noisy when bar/restaurant got into itsswing aroung 11pm to midnight.

The hotel looks like an old station hotel in France but it backs onto the river and has a lovely position near the centre of town. Car parking is over the road. It was a hot night and France had just won their latest World cup match and we had a road side room, so we had to choose between extreme heat and extreme noise. Unfortunately the room had been rented out to a dog owner a few days previously. some hair and some little jumping friends had been left behind. The room had not been cleaned well and the fleas were on the 'counterpane' If any survived my attacks they did not bite!||The hotel was full and breakfast overwhelmed it, The coffee machine kept failing to grind the beans and the breakfast room overflowed into the bar.||The receptionist was exceptional, she spoke at least three languages and dealt with breakfast customers with confidence and aplomb, even some irate Australians were calmed by her. But the hotel staffing was not set up to deal with a 'full house'. and definitely one struggling coffee machine was inadequate.||It was a low priced hotel

We arrived with no great expectations but had numerous things go wrong... The worst was no running water in the shower and the toilet cistern water kept running all night! We couldn’t contact reception. When someone appeared 9.30am & I asked for help, she eventually told us that the shower problem was beacause there was“no water” yet there was water available from the tap in the basin. We went out for breakfast then as we returned we were asked to leave our room at 10.30am sharp... She knocked on the door at 10.31am insisting we leave & waited at the door till we collected the last of our belongings so we could hand her the key! Although our French wasn’t great, we thought we would have been treated with a little more respect!

We stayed in Hotel des Barris for three nights at the end of October (2014). We liked the food in the restaurant and the staff were nice. However by the second night I/we felt itchy but put it down to mosquitoes being near the river. After the third night ... and for the following week after departure all the bites appeared over my/our bodies, arms, legs, throat, face etc. Not just little spots but fairly large weeping bites. I still have bites left on my face - nearly SIX weeks after we left. It's not funny. ||||I have emailed the hotel (with photos proving the situation to date) and I have written to the hotel (with photos proving the situation to date) asking for two nights out of three reimbursement (they are incredibly uncomfortable) and I asked for proof they have addressed the situation. To date I have not yet had a reply. I am now looking for a government health department to go and sort the problem out as you can't have lots of people passing through a hotel, suffering this unpleasantness, with no action. ||||Just because there is no proof bed bugs do not spread disease does not mean they don't.||||Under present circumstance do NOT stay here until they bed bugs have been dealt with and they have said so.||||PS ... One star is for the staff.

"La contina" has the best view you can find in Periguex for lunch or for dinner....skip tapas and get en entrée. Entrecôtes (saignant -rare) with frites was excellent.
