Hotel des Berges (Illhaeusern, Grand Est) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The same family has been running the two-MICHELIN-Star l’Auberge de l’Ill and its adjacent boutique hotel for generations — but a recent design overhaul and expansion has brought new life to the place, making an overnight stay at the riverside Hotel des Berges more than just a convenience. The hotel’s guest rooms and suites are located both in the property’s original chalet-style building, with dark wood-paneling, terracotta floors, and plush sofas, and in the new addition, a modern glass and wood structure with a minimalist, almost futuristic Japanese aesthetic and a sleek organic spa. Indoor and outdoor pools provide diversion year-round, and the gardens on the riverbank are gorgeous." - Tablet Hotels

A Magical Stay in Alsace – Perfection in Every Way Our stay at this exceptional hotel in Alsace was an absolute dream from start to finish. The location, right by the river and surrounded by picturesque weeping willows, exudes a special kind of magic. Waking up to the sound of birdsong while gazing at the gently flowing water from our beautifully designed room was pure serenity. The architecture and design of the hotel are simply breathtaking. Antique elements seamlessly blend with modern aesthetics, creating a perfect harmony. Artworks and sculptures are thoughtfully placed throughout, adding to the hotel’s sophisticated charm. The spa is in a league of its own—ultra-modern, stylish, and an oasis of pure relaxation. But the absolute highlight was the culinary experience. The 5-course dinner at Haeberlin Restaurant by Marc Haeberlin was nothing short of extraordinary—each course perfectly balanced, a true symphony of flavors. The breakfast the next morning was equally unforgettable, featuring the finest ingredients and impeccable preparation. The service? Flawless. Warm, attentive, yet discreet. A particularly delightful surprise was when Marc Haeberlin personally invited us to visit their soon-to-open chocolaterie the next morning. He took the time to chat with us, sharing his passion for this new project —a wonderful personal touch that made our stay even more special. This hotel is a true gem—for design lovers, food enthusiasts, and anyone seeking the perfect getaway. We will definitely be back!

📝 A truly top class hotel. It surely comes at a price but guarantees highest quality. If you can afford it, don't think twice and stay at this wonderful hotel. 🛏️ We stayed at the Maison Du Pecheur, which is the only such accommodation option: it's a maisonette right next to the river, detached from all other buildings. It has 2 floors: downstairs you have a small bathroom and a living room, upstairs are the bedroom and a huge bathroom. It's very classy, really beautiful. On the terrace outside there were a couple of deck chairs and also a private Swedish pool that can be heated on request. 📍 Each area of the hotel, both indoor and outdoor is beautiful. The classic style of bar and all indoor common areas makes it cozy and elegant. The garden is absolutely huge and you should absolutely walk around and enjoy its beauty. 🍴 Breakfast was sensational, very fresh and really worthy of a 5 star accommodation. We brought all breads home as we couldn't finish them all. ☝🏼 It also has a spa - no need to say this part was also excellent and something you must try during your stay.

Amazing hotel and spa. The spa building is magnificent with excellent architecture. We had lunch there on the river bank, a meal which is an amazing experience in itself. The visit to the spa, the massage and the blessings were exactly what we needed at the end of the trip.

The hotel was nicely decorated, and everything about the stay was fine. However, the restaurant left much to be desired. I tried their Haeberline course, but the appetizers tasted mass-produced or pre-cooked. The service felt either understaffed or inadequately trained, and overall, it seemed a far cry from the level of a true Michelin-starred establishment

Everything was stunning and spectacular, down to the finest details. We’ve stayed our fair share of 5 star hotels and this tucked away paradise takes the cake. The staff are attentive, gracious and hospitable - we felt such genuine care by all who helped us make our two day stay so special. The grounds are lush, calming, and serene. The rooms are comfortable, very spacious and well appointed. This place will forever hold a special place in my heart - a place that could stake claim as heaven on Earth. We can’t wait to return!

A superb experience across all fronts. A beautiful room, an elegant first class dinner and then even a great breakfast the next morning. The spa ranks amongst the best I have seen. But what really distinguishes Hotel des Berges/Auberge de l’Ill ,however, is the family that runs it. The whole family. They love it and it shows. The only regret I have is that I didn’t take up the offer of a ‘wild swim’ with the patron in the river.

This was our second stay at Hotel des Berges, and we loved it again! Terrific friendly staff. Beautiful romantic pastoral location on the River Ill meandering by our deck and the property in general. Very comfortable rooms with the automatic wood louvred shades; excellent breakfast room with a view of the river, which also serves as a bar/cocktails place in the evening. And of course, one doesn’t stay here without dining at the incomporable Augerge d’Ill on the property. One of the great restaurants of the world! We dined there twice on this occasion, and it was simply marvelous both times. We also dined a night in between at the Restaurant a la Truite directly across the quaint bridge over the river, and enjoyed that as well. Illhausern is a short ride from the Rhine where you can easily cross over from the Autobahn, and situated close to the excellent villages of Colmar, Ribeauville, and Riquewehr, in the heart of the Alsace wine country, and only 25 miles south of Strasbourg. In other words, an absolute perfect place to stay while visiting the Marches de Noel, as we did. We look forward to returning! Highly recommend!
