Hotel Die Sonne Frankenberg (Frankenberg, Hesse) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A scenic stop on the Deutsche Märchenstraße, or German Fairy Tale Route, Frankenberg is known for its 500-year-old, ten-towered town hall. Right next door is Hotel Die Sonne Frankenberg, a luxury hotel housed in a trio of beautifully restored 16th-century buildings. Each has its own character — one was a brewery, one a wine shop, and another a civic auditorium — but they’ve been unified into one sophisticated property with modern suites, a spa, and several bars and restaurants, including one with a Michelin star." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel Sonne is a lovely hotel and spa in the market center of historic town Frankenberg on the Eder River. The staff are welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast was included in the stay and had more options than we could have asked for. Our room was large by European standards - a king bed - and quiet and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Book dinner at their fine dining restaurant well in advance as it’s only open on weekends and the chef is well known. But their other restaurant has a beautiful menu as well and we had no problem getting seats. It’s open 7 days.

Good hotel which was exactly as described. Everything was really clean, good staff as well. Breakfastroom looked really nice and great food with a lot of options. The spa en wellness were also clean and looked luxurious and new with good materials. Only negative point is the village, there is not a lot to do in the village but by car you can reach some cool activities within 30min.

Pleasant reception and booked for 2 nights, rooms are nice, spacious and cleaned properly. Lots of variety at the delicious breakfast in a beautiful large cozy room, you are really at ease. We have used the beautiful wellness. Here too everything was taken care of and a pleasant stay. Good food at the hotel and the very nice location made this stay complete.

The hotel was built in the old town by connecting historical buildings above and below ground. The buildings were modernized without losing its character. It has a regional typical ambiance which is elegant and warm. Everything is very clean and well kept. The restaurants have great service and delicious food. The hotel bar and the front terrace are a perfect place to hang out. The hotel has a recognized gourmet restaurant and a spa. Delicious breakfast serving some special cold cuts that are typical on the region. Perfect place to go to spoil yourself.

Beautiful hotel, spacious accommodations, and delicious dining both for breakfast and dinner. This hotel has all the charm- from its classic exterior to spa-like bathroom that brings all the comforts of home. We travelled with two young kids from abroad and our suite was more than enough room for all of us to sleep and unwind after a long day of travel. The bathroom was a dream with big tub and big shower. The breakfast buffet was well stocked with various breads, spreads, fruits, juices, American and European proteins, cereals- there was something for everyone. And we had a dinner in the Michelin-starred restaurant downstairs and it was spectacular. I would highly recommend this hotel, especially for a family with kids and after a long flight. If traveling as a couple, the spa cannot be missed! We didn’t have time to book a spa appointment but that is on my list for next time!

We visited with family just after the New Year. Die Sonne has a fantastic location right on the main square of the old town, great spa facilities, and a welcoming and accommodating staff. The Michelin-starred restaurant serves polished and thoughtful food -- the wine list is excellent. The drinks in the bar are beautifully prepared -- after a day of hiking and sight-seeing, cozying up to the fire with a nice cocktail was perfect. The food and service in the German-themed restaurant is also very good, and the breakfast buffet included with all rooms was generous. My kids liked that the drinks in the minibar in their room were free. ||||While I suppose the high season is summer, Frankenberg -- and Die Sonne -- in winter are lovely -- trees covered in frost turning the whole landscape magical. We loved our two-night stay and would strongly recommend the spa room, which has a lovely separate seating area with a gas fireplace, and a bathroom with a fantastic rain shower, separate commode, and large whirlpool bath -- and a Juliet balcony looking out over the old town hall. A perfect place for a quick winter getaway!

We stayed at Die Sonne for a week and loved every minute of it. The service is pretty good and the rooms spacious and yet homely. The only things that we missed were having a smart TV to enable us to cast a movie, as the room tv was old and didn't provide any English channels to watch a film. Clearly, this is a place for foodies, but at times, the food runs away too far from German tradition. It would be nice to see this type of cuisine tweaked and modernised, too.

We visited with our son between Christmas and New Year and were very late booking. The hotel staff could not be more friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed the room and the food very much. I have seen some comments about the breakfast but honestly I have no idea what anyone might expect more than what is on offer. The spa is also very nice and the massage was amazing. ||||This is an area of outstanding natural beauty with a UNESCO heritage recognised forest close by and we were very much looking forward to the hiking but with our young son and at the freezing temperatures that was a bit optimistic. The wild park nearby is well worth it (and free even). The town is beautiful but sleepy and other than the hotel itself we were a bit at a want of other options. ||||All in all definitely highly recommended, think about how much time you want to spend and what you want to do while there before you set off.
