Hotel Diplomat

"Rooms, regardless of level, are neutral and airy at the Diplomat; those in the front overlook Stockholm Harbor. Beds feature sheets from the hotel's own linen collection. From the wharf it's minutes to attractions, including the theater and national museum. Family-run for four generations, the dedication to its guests, the arts of it surroundings, and the environment is clear."

How I Travel: Author Ijeoma Oluo Loves a Scandinavian Breakfast Spread

"Hotel Diplomat in Stockholm, it's beautiful. They have the whole gorgeous breakfast smorgasbord, but the rooms—usually, in Scandinavia, the hotel rooms are so tiny. They're like, "Oh, you've got a deluxe room," and it's a box. The Hotel Diplomat is just this beautiful luxe experience."

Hotel Diplomat Stockholm (Stockholm, Sweden) 17 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Are we at a point yet where we’re comfortable with the idea that Swedish style is no more predisposed to modernism than that of any other country? Go looking for mid-century style and you’ll miss out Stockholm’s deeper historical roots. Something like the gloriously restored Diplomat Hotel, an Art Nouveau classic that’s been painstakingly brought up to date, is the sort of thing this city does best." - Tablet Hotels

I stayed at Hotel Diplomat in September and booked a Deluxe Sea View Room on the second floor. The location is excellent right by the waterfront in a beautiful historic building, and breakfast was good with a nice selection. However, one major issue affected my stay: the large exterior flags right outside the windows. They made loud flapping and hitting noises against the poles, which became very disturbing especially at night. It was honestly hard to sleep with that constant sound.

Formerly built as a residence many hundreds of years ago, the hotel is adorned with marbles and beautiful iron works. The foyer leads to a stunning circular staircase to the 7th floor. A beautiful elevator is available to take you up, though. I love our room in the corner of the 6th floor directly facing the harbor and gave us access to wath the boats passing by. There is a restaurant famous among the locals for their breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful and very personable. Especially Murtaza at the front office and Amellio, who greeted us at the front door and helped us with our luggage. Almost everyone was so helpful. Love staying here.

Google
Such an incredible experience! Exceptional service, the rooms were all extremely clean, housekeeping was wonderful and very thorough, and the hotel was just so beautiful! Perfect location and amazing views overlooking the river. Probably my favorite hotel I have ever stayed and the only place I will stay when I come back to Stockholm!

⸻ My husband and I traveled to Stockholm on August 7 and stayed at the Hotel Diplomat. At first, we weren’t very happy with our room, but the staff there were incredibly kind and went above and beyond to take care of us. They upgraded us to the best room they could offer and made sure we had everything we needed. I especially want to mention Victoria – she was one of the best and helped us in every possible way. The hotel itself was amazing: excellent staff, wonderful people, great service, and a perfect location. Thanks again to Victoria

The hotel is a beautiful art deco family run hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. After a 24 hour journey Murtaza on the front desk ensured a room was available for me well prior to check in time…made all the difference. The staff at breakfast were delightful especially Chana, and the crepes were divine. Thoroughly recommend staying at the Diplomat.

Google
Great location and nicely decorated hotel. Single room was very practical and neat. |The only issue is that some walls are very thin and weak so when room doors were closed automatically with a bang, the wall clattered. This was sufficient for o wake me up several times.

Hotel Diplomat is always my preferred choice in Stockholm. The service level is fantastic, and the staff always does their outmost to accommodate your needs. Special mention to Murtaza who is always greets you with a smile and goes beyond to provide exceptional service

This hotel should be amazing but the little things let it down.It has a great location, big rooms and Our 4.5 hour check- in was a bad start. I know that we got there at 8 am, after a long flight but the staff did little to speed our access to a room. I offered to drop a grade or pay more .. THERE WAS ANOTHER COUPLE IN THE SAME BOAT AND HE WS 87. | However, the hotel is relaxed and felt more like a club than a top level hotel.| A top manager could lift it to 5 stars as the bones of the hotel are there and the staff are pleasant.| Roger Mendelson. Yelp
I honestly don't know why Hotel Diplomat isn't ranked the top hotel on Tripadvisor in Stockholm given it has been one of the top hotels for Stockholm on Conde Naste traveller's readers choice awards for the last several years. With six of us traveling they offer a room that has a sofa bed which was perfect for our the two children with us (one child stayed with us) while the other was with their grandparents. The rooms were so spacious for Europe with beautiful parquet floors, comfortable beds, and a well appointed bathroom. Our room also offered a lovely balcony overlooking a courtyard and a view of the river. The location can't be beat for this hotel with convenient access to tram and bus and our first day where we hadn't sorted out public transit we managed to walk from the central station and it was a relatively flat walk. Where this hotel was amazing was the service. We booked this hotel for three days and the gentleman upon check in was so friendly (a Pakistani who had met a lovely lady in Sweden and recognized my Indian parents surname). His extreme kindness helped us start our visit on the right step. We had dinner the first night at the hotel and the food was not only good but the service amazing again. For breakfast we fortunately had familiar faces with a lady who kindly remembered our coffee orders and another gentleman (Channah) who has worked here for 35 years and was so kind and attentive. They all seem to love what they are doing and imparted such kindness that were blown away (we've stayed at nice hotels before like a Mandarin Oriental at Hong Kong) but really impressed how the staff goes above and beyond here.

Yelp
while this is, in concept a top hotel, it is dated and they do not value the guests. in a 5 day stay, my tv did not work and each day i made the same request, was told it would be fixed and repeated it day in and day out. the bedroom carpet was stained and upon follow up to management about my horrible stay, they disregarded it and insinuated i was still happy with my stay after 5 days of complaints. they have ZERO sense of service despite friendly at first glance in person. i would NOT recommend this hotel

Yelp
Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff at this restaurant in a very elegant and pricey part of town. The food is good and nicely presented. The waiter actually recommended another place close by which he said was livelier.

Yelp
Lovely old first class hotel in such a convenient, picturesque location. Truly helpful desk staff who seemed to have endless suggestions for our tourist getaway. We ate in the restaurant the first night. The food and service was top notch.

Yelp
After having a very unpleasant and unrestful stay at the Lydmar on an earlier trip, we chose Hotel Diplomat for our next visit. The location was superbly convenient, the room was huge and the beds were so comfortable. In contrast to the Lydmar with its loud music blaring outside at its own club scene way past midnight , we also slept so easily in our quiet room of Hotel Diplomat. We look forward to staying at Hotel Diplomat again and recommend it to all of our friends, visiting Stockholm.

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant at The Diplomat, though we stayed at the hotel which was a 5 star experience as well. My buddy and I decided on this restaurant for my birthday brunch and I couldn't have been happier. They had a lot of traditional favorites, combined with a fusion twist on things. We started off with a tuna sashimi dish for an appetizer and it was delicious. For a main, I had the eggs royal, which was pretty much Eggs Benedict with lox, which was brilliant. The restaurant itself was gorgeous with a beautiful view of the water, and the service was exceptional! I highly recommend this place if you're in Stockholm.

Yelp
This property is very conveniently located. It is right across the lake, which and lovely to walk in the evenings. There is also a park close by as well as several monuments, museums, and very nice restaurants nearby. The hotel is a bit old and in more of a boutique style than a modern 5 star hotel, but the service is excellent, friendly, and helpful. When I arrived, I was taken to a room where the lights did not work very well. And so when I called the front desk, they immediately transferred me to an upgraded room without charge. The room was very nice but was facing some construction, which created a bit of noise in the morning, but nothing too annoying. I did not have the opportunity to have dinner at the restaurant, but the breakfast buffet is plentiful and excellent with a mix of eggs, sausages, croissants, pastries, cold cuts, and many different types of teas/coffees. The view from the restaurant is also quite nice. I believe the Internet is free, although, I don't remember for sure now. On my last day, I had an early morning flight, and the staff at the front desk offered to have breakfast and tea/coffee ready for my trip to the airport. That was very considerate of them, and indeed a pot of tea and some croissants were ready for me when I went to check out on the last day.

Yelp
We arrived for high tea yesterday however as we were on the wait list weren't able to experience the event. The booking of high tea begins with an English option however ends with Swedish so there is uncertainty around what is actually bring reserved. We did have a wonderful brunch at a neighboring restaurant.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful city! The location is perfect with a beautiful view of the water! Rooms are spacious and clean! Beds are cozy and decor is exactly what I would expect (and love) in Sweden! Elevator was a tad of an inconvenience (if someone doesn't close the metal door all the way after riding, the elevator gets stuck on that floor) but definitely wasn't a huge deal. We were on the 6th floor and occasionally had to walk up a few floors to get the elevator that someone hadn't closed right. But we just considered that extra exercise for the day (we can all use that!!). Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful as well! Only other minor issue we had was with the room being a tad warm for our liking. We ended up sleeping with the window open which was a bit disruptive in the morning when the town started waking up. But overall the traffic in this area is minimal and it's just a very peaceful place! Would love to spend more time here!! **We also ate/drank at the bar and had a great experience there too! Beer was delicious and so was the food!

Yelp
From arrival to departure a wonderful 5 plus star experience! The staff made this an epic and fulfilling time of relaxation. A special shout out to the desk staff. ‼‼ My room was large and very well kept. A perfect getaway spot to rest and explore Stockholm .The hotel location is ideal for anything Stockholm. The restaurant was a good place to chill and people watch, while enjoying good food, drinks and conversation. I'll be back to Stockholm in summer weather.. but ONLY if I can stay at Hotel Diplomat. Thanks for making my escape a true joy!!! Thanks again staff, for going over and above. Happy New Year ‼ TEXAS Ron

Yelp
Cool boutique hotel located in city center. Super friendly staff. Rooms are a bit small but I wasn't complaining. Great views. Breakfast starts at 0730 on weekends; should be earlier. Nice concierge staff to make recommendations. Gastro pub around the corner from hotel. I didn't have central air in my room but was told rooms on floor 6 do. Overall super pleased.

Yelp
Great. Very quiet, large rooms, comfortable beds, large bathrooms, nice shower, and great location.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here on our quick trip to Stockholm. This hotel was exactly what we were hoping it would be! The marble staircase and old fashioned elevator gave this quaint hotel such a unique vibe. It was a CLEAN and beautifully designed room and the staff was always so polite. The location was also great! A short walk to the heart of downtown and the Vasa Museum and right across from the water. The restaurant downstairs is a nice cozy spot for a late night snack or an evening cocktail, and there is a little grocery store connected to the first floor with juices and sandwiches and pastries for a quick bite. If we visit Stockholm in the future, we will be look forward to staying here again!

Yelp
Incredible boutique hotel. Cozy rooms, sauna facility, right in the middle downtown and very convenient. Ornamental old style finishing you don't often see anymore . Excellent service by concierge. William was fantastic, and the service here put Hotel Diplomat a notch higher in my view.

Yelp
Stayed one night at the Hotel Diplomat while we were visiting Stockholm. For the price we paid, I was hoping for more. I can't point out one thing that was wrong - it was more that I wanted it to 'wow' me and it didn't. The building is beautiful and the room was big compared to others we've been too. The bed, like other hotels in Stockholm, was two twins pushed together which we always find odd. The bathroom was just alright. It had a shower which was appreciated but the water pressure was off and everything seemed outdated. I will say the WIFI was excellent. That was much appreciated.

Yelp
A good pick for the calmer and less crowded after work. The staff is friendly and down-to-earth and drinks are not crazy expensive

Artemis P.

Yelp
Excellent hotel, very clean and excellent service. The restaurant is fantastic, the breakfast is super, and the personnel is very always taking care of you. We had a wonderful stay. The building has history, and they keep it mostly original. Highly recommended to everyone, either for business or for leisure, for one night to X nights. You wont be dissapointed.

Yelp
I haven't stayed at the hotel so I cannot say anything about the rooms. However, me and my friends were at the cocktail bar on the second floor, and that was great. The bar itself is tiny, there was the six of us and another party of four or five and then it was about full. It's a great place for a smaller party to have a cocktail, something light to eat and have some privacy. The service is great and the cocktails well made. I'm definitely coming back here.

Yelp
Wow! Had an absolutely beautiful room for several days on the second floor center overlooking the water and Strandvägen. Excellent location for sightseeing in all directions. Room was luxurious - Hugh ceilings, huge windows with doors facing the water, huge deep bathtub, separate shower, marble and teak bathrooms with heated floors, large closet including safe - quaint elevator from small lobby - enjoyed a lovely dinner here one night, too. Would stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling there. Tram and bus stop a mere block away.

Yelp
This hotel was a really nice. We stayed here for our entire honeymoon back in April and it was close to just about everything. The staff were some of the friendliest I have ever encountered, especially since we are American and not every was hmm friendly during our visit. The room we had was cute. You walked in and in order for the lights to work, you had to input your key card in a slot. Pretty neat. You walked down two steps and your bed along with the a desk and your TV. Might I add that the bed was very, very comfortable and made for great nights sleep. The shower, I could never really figure out, seeing as I am short so it was kinda hard to adjust. The free Wifi was an added perk and very much appreciated during our stay (which was a week) Unfortunately we never did eat at the restaurant and now that I think about it we really should have as it would have made for GREAT people watching. All in all a great hotel in Sweden and if we were to ever come back, this would definitely be on the list of places to stay.
