This hotel was incredibly disappointing and in disrepair. We don't know if it is because the owner is trying to sell it, or just hasn't been around to see its poor condition. The rooms are small, cramped and over priced. Furniture is worn and bed/pillows terribly uncomfortable. We only stayed one of our three reserved nights.|We asked to cancel our reservation and receive a refund. We were denied. Nonetheless, we ended up staying elsewhere our last two nights. |FYI, there are hotels nearby that are less expensive and much better cared for.

My husband and I stayed for 21 days at this 10 room gem. We loved how the owner Jodi, manager Yaz, and house keepers, attendants Erica and Cesia gave us superior service. The rooms are comfortable but basic and dorm-like in appearance. I was most interested in this economic spot that allowed us to spend one month traveling in Costa Rica. AC was cold, mini fridge and daily breakfast -, scrambled eggs, gallo pinto (rice and beans) bread and coffee , served from 8-9 am daily was held at the outdoor rancho pavilion that had a gas grill, stove top grill, microwave, sink and all pans and plates to cook and serve your own meals. How convenient! Many ticos had reunions here since other rooms (not our room 1) had bunk beds, full fridge, and a stove top gas grill w picnic table and hammock. Hotel is on a busy street, The great deal is 15 min walk to the right puts you at Brasilito beach. Continue the wslk on the beach past Camaron Dorado restaurant gives you a beach that rarely had more than a few people here. Yaz was so kind to retrieve and hand deliver my cell phone to me that I had foolishly left behind . She met me at our next hotel in Potrero Beach. Now that is above and beyond service! She also helped me get a refund on a tour we arranged that never picked us up! Jodi got me softer pillows and swiftly resolved a bathroom issue we had. The pool is missing some tiles, but very refreshing to return to each night. Thank you for a comfortable stay. Treated like family!

Pros: |- cheap. We paid $160 CAD for 2 nights |-only a 10 min walk to store and restaurant |-friendly staff |-clean rooms |-good AC and shower |-good breakfast ||Cons: |-pool is really tiny and every room faces the pool so zero privacy. (This is shown in pictures so shouldn’t be a surprise but pool is smaller in person) |-wifi was the worst we had out of all hotels. Had to stand outside just to connect for a second. Not a huge deal for us but if you need to work on wifi you won’t be able to here. |-description says they have hair dryers, I asked for one and was told they did not supply hair dryers. ||As they mention in the description, a car is recommended. Definitely agree with that. We did not have a car and while brasilito town is only a 10 minute walk, there is not much to do in the area. The brasilito beach is not the best and restaurants and bars are slim. Ubers we’re fairly easy to get but you definitely need to drive to go to flamingo or conchal. ||They also mention that noise free rooms can’t be guaranteed, that is also true as the hotel faces a busy highway. It gets quiet relatively early at night but it gets loud really early in the morning. If you’re a light sleeper be prepared to be awake at 6 am. ||Overall a fine hotel for the price you’re paying. Don’t expect luxury for cheap prices!

Great, spotless room with air conditioning and mini fridge, pretty good kitchen and a cute pool. Nicely located outside the crowded area but still close enough to the beach. 75$ per night is outside my usual backpacker range for a private room but the quality justifies the price without any question.

My friend and I stayed here for one week on arriving to Costa Rica, this place is great! ||||The rooms are clean and comfortable with air con, powerful hot water shower and breakfast is made freshly every morning and served outside. ||||The location was good for us as a base as we were keen to explore. We walked down to Playa Brasilito which was around 10 mins. The beautiful white sands of Playa Conchal are a good 30 min walk which didn't bother us but may be something to bear in mind if you want to be right on the beach. There are shops and restaurants and a very interesting local bar in Brasilito which is a quiet town. Tamarindo is around a 20 min drive away if you're looking for a busier town and nightlife. ||||There isn't loads going on in Brasilito but we enjoyed horse riding on the beach to watch the sunset, a boat trip and snorkelling in Conchal, Playa Flamingo is pretty but far too touristy for us and this hotel made a good base. We were glad to have our little sanctuary to come home to. The pool area is lovely, nice and clean with loungers and hammocks. ||||What really makes this place is the staff. My friend and I travelled around Costa Rica and the staff here were by far the nicest people of anywhere we stayed! Jodie and her gorgeous team gave us advice, chatted to us, even made sure they had the details of our taxi driver when we left, and that we checked in with them at our next destination. We both just adored everyone here and it has a really safe, family feel. ||||Thank you guys! You're the best!

I do not even know where to start. But I will say RUN. This has been the worst hotel experience. We have ever had an all of our travels. Upon arrival, we came to check into our room that we had paid in full for. The room was flooded with the rain from that day, the fridge was so old and rusted that the only way to keep it closed was to put a chair in front of it. The beds where so small and the one that we needed to pull from under the bed was soaked with water. There was no water what so ever to take a shower or to even rinse the sand from our beach day. The towels provided looked so old and they were a dark color which in our mind from so many traveling experiences that only means those towels or the bedding aren't washed at least with bleach to remove any germs from other guests. We told the receptionist that there was no way we could stay and we would like a refund. She asked why as if she didn't see with her own eyes what was right in front of her. While smirking and laughing at us she said she couldn't give refunds that only the owner that was in the US was able to provide us a refund. Confused of why there wouldn't be someone with authority to deal with this type of situations we asked her to please contact the owner and she gave us two fake numbers that we called and verified not knowing that in the front of the building there's a sign that says the owners number since she has the place up for sale. The owner gave a ridiculous excuse of how she wasn't able to provide a refund becauss she was in the middle of the desert and had no reception yet she had reception to be able to send a Whatsapp message and we all know how that works but i guess she thought we were stupid enough to believe her ridiculous lies and excuses. Having our elderly mother and our two year old wet, dirty, and hungry we decided to go to the place next door and check it out. WOW AMAZING 10000X BETTER. Once we had them set at the other place we came back to see if there was any response from the owner about our refund. The response was so vulgar, disrespectful, unprofessional and very disappointed with foul words and so unconscious of our situation. It wasn't till I let the receptionist know I had recorded the message the owner had sent and that we had contacted our lawyer and we were also going to have a news station come to their hotel to report this horrific place and experience that we received our refund. The time waisted and the horrible experience we had from 2:00pm till 10:00pm we wouldn't wish for anyone else to go through this nightmare. Please look else where and do not waste your money in this horrible place. No wonder owner is selling because not knowing to run a place and not having any respect or people sympathy or skills will definitely have you in the ruin real quick. If I could give this place a -100 I would.

Nice hotel in a great location. They have a shared kitchen if you want to cook. The pool was nice. Many restaurants and supermarkets at walking distance. There are 2 beaches within 20 min walking (10 Brasilito / 20 Conchal). The wifi is not very good but all the rest make it a solid option.

This place is a total dive. Upon arriving, there were a number of issues with the room (strong chemical odor, gaps in the panels in the door, generally not as promised in the posting). We made the decision to leave right away and check the vacancy of the hotel next door. On a positive note, the hotel next door (hotel Conchal) is a wonderful place. I highly recommend staying here instead if they have an available room. The receptionist actually mentioned they regularly have people coming to seek a room in refuge of Hotel Diversion Tropical. Upon requesting just a partial refund, the owner accused me of having a "motive" and started making up false stories; one of which involved the neighboring hotel's "owners girlfriend hiding in the bushes at our gate when we came over". Thankfully Airbnb remedied the situation and provided me with a full refund - it certainly wasn't coming from the owner who was hellbent on not providing any sort of reasonable customer service. I would recommend looking at the recent reviews and avoid booking here until things improve. I'm hopeful that the owner will improve the conditions at the hotel rather than pushing back on the legitimate concerns of customers and lying to attempt to cover up the very real deficiencies of the property.
