I try to support small proprietors whenever possible, and felt choosing this hotel has allowed me to do that. It is lovingly run by Mr. and Mrs. Santos who speak just enough English to ensure a smooth stay. I asked for a warm room because I was sick with a horrible cold. I got just that, a sunny room with the sun streaming in each morning, plus it had a lovely view of Coimbra University perched high on the hill. The decor is very traditional, dark wood furniture, but the bathroom has been updated. The shower is small with a shower curtain enclosure, water is nice and hot with good pressure. What I also liked about the bathroom was that it had a heat lamp above the door that kept the room warm. The staff really kept the place clean as you can see them working hard with their buckets and bleach.||It is very centrally located, close to good cafes, restaurants and Coimbra A train station is just a couple of minutes walk. From the Rede Expressos bus station, it is a 15-20 minute walk down a main road and easy to find. The location also makes it easy to get to the University and the traditional market where you can see fresh fish and bacalhau being sold.||Mr. Santos personally serves you breakfast in the morning. It is a typical basic breakfast with coffee and tea, juice, yogurt, fresh fruit, muffin, cheese and fresh rolls.||There are no elevators but Mr. Santos helped me carry my luggage to my room.||As you can see, it is a small hotel and the owners are there to do a lot of the caring taking. It is good value and in a perfect location. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or to return for another stay.
