I've traveled around the world- this is one of the most beautiful and perfect places to stay I've ever been. I can't recommend it enough. First off- the property is gorgous, from paintings to the chairs to the staircase everything is immaculate. It has a wonderful feel. People working here and the restaurant is also phenomenal- great food! Comfortable rooms, really don't hesitate best place to stay

Very good location in the city and the price was adequate. I have no major complaints, but I also wouldn't say this place stands out. The building is a beautiful colonial house, quite a lot bigger than I'd thought. Some rooms located on the lower floor though are quite noisy with people constantly standing / passing outside the window. Also the hotel team is working around and can be heard early in the day. It's not the best when you want to rest on your own schedule. The local gift shop is quite handy, selling most artefacts you've probably already seen in other shops. I haven't had lunch or dinner in the restaurant, but the breakfast was also only average. I guess a typical in-house restaurant.

We stayed here our first night in Costa Rica. The staff were responsive and warm. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and were happy with both. The rooms were large and clean. A very small pool in the back courtyard was available for my kids to play in. Very interesting decor and had a gift shop and travel agency in the hotel.

The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. It has a rustic charm. If you're looking for something more modern than it's not for you. The location was great because it was semi-quiet in terms of traffic meaning a good night's rest, but it was also walking distance from shopping and parks and museums. You get a free welcome drink and I recommend trying the Guaro Sour as it's a local favorite and was very good. Breakfast was pretty good too and they were happy to accommodate me when I asked for scrambled eggs. They also kept my luggage after checkout so I could see the Butterfly Garden before going to the airport.

Pleasant small hotel & restaurant in old typical SJ house. Many artistic things (tiling, paintings, sculptures) decorate the rooms, the service is friendly and great. Good WiFi throughout. Meals good, standard fare with a mixture of Rico and Western. Sits within an easy walk of the centre of town. Many 'soda' and restaurants nearby.

This hotel was on a busy street in a busy vehicle area. Didn't feel comfortable walking around. The hotel had theft warnings everywhere and there were police that kept coming in and out. The room was 1 single and one double, both very hard beds. No fridge. Hotel would be good for people who like eclectic style (I don't) and could use updating. Had large souvenir shop and restaurant had reasonable prices but way too large helpings. Mediocre quality.

Lovely place to stay. Warm reception from helpful staff. Great breakfast and restaurant on site. Secure parking. As this was our first hotel after madness of NYC This was a fantastic introduction to Costa Rica.

Nice homely feeling hotel, where all the rooms vary & there's interesting decor throughout - much nicer than pricier, more modern but boring generic box room hotels. The staff are friendly & helpful & forgave our lack of Spanish. Batman & Robin (Ronald & Greivin?) in the restaurant were especially friendly & fun guys who made great gin & tonics and were spot-on with their recommendations for our evening meal. Don't be put off by the couple of comments re safety/the area of the hotel - the area is fine and convenient if you're spending time in San Jose ... it's no different to any other City area in the world where you just have to avoid the obvious stupid acts like walking around alone at night or flashing pricey gadgets. If you want a night or two stay close to the airport/City Centre, with good food, nice people & a bit of character, give this place a go.
