We originally booked the Excelsior Hotel Montreux back in December 2023, but thanks to bad weather and flight delays, Switzerland had to wait for us a little longer. While the hotel quite rightly kept the first night (their policy), what happened next completely won us over — they kindly offered the amount back as a credit for the following year. Suddenly, the sting of missing the trip disappeared. What a classy and generous gesture.|When we rebooked, fate clearly wanted to test us again and our return had to be postponed until 2025. Once more, this was met with nothing but kindness and understanding. Exceptional service before we’d even arrived!|Upon finally booking again, I noticed we were allocated a ground-floor room — perfectly fine, except we booked this hotel for those lake views. Not a problem at all. We were upgraded to the only suite on a higher floor, effortlessly and graciously, just in time to celebrate a party member’s 40th birthday. Now that is how you make guests feel special.|The location is spot on: right by the lake, close to the Christmas markets, and a short stroll from the Freddie Mercury Museum inside the casino. The train station is easily reached by tram, which is free with the travel pass — always a bonus.|Now, the staff deserve their own applause. The reception team were some of the friendliest, happiest people we’ve ever encountered. Nothing was too much trouble, English was spoken fluently, and every interaction came with a genuine smile. It truly makes all the difference.|Yes, the hotel is old — the floorboards creak and the furnishings reflect its age — but that’s part of the charm. The Excelsior is full of character and history, and the beauty absolutely remains. The lake views are breathtaking and ever-changing, never getting old.|Breakfast was convenient and pleasantly different, with an eclectic mix alongside the usual pastries, cereals, and cheeses — definitely not boring! While it may be considered a little pricey, you leave with a full stomach, a clean dining area, and hot drinks served by a lovely lady who, once again, greets you with a smile.|We visited at Christmas and were lucky enough to see Santa fly over — pure joy and a magical memory.|Would we return? Absolutely. Would we recommend it? Without hesitation. The Excelsior doesn’t just offer a stay — it offers warmth, generosity, and memories you’ll treasure.
