Hôtel du Grand Lac Excelsior

The hotel has a beautiful lakeside location, and our stay was generally fine, but there are several areas that need improvement. The property is clearly showing its age — the carpets were noticeably dirty, and overall the rooms could really benefit from refurbishment or renovation. Additionally, the room did not provide a kettle, tea, or coffee, which was quite inconvenient and unexpected for a hotel of this standard. Breakfast was okay, nothing special but sufficient to start the day. With some updates to the facilities and better in-room amenities, this hotel has the potential to offer a much better experience.

A very elegant hotel directly on the lake walkway but very quiet. Spacious room with everything you need. The pool and sauna were great and the breakfast buffet was very good with great staff. Uncomplicated parking. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It's an older hotel which needs a lot of things renovated but it still is very charming the value for the price was perfect for us.

This hotel sits by Lake Geneva with a stunning view of the lake and mountains. That’s probably the only good thing about this hotel, the view. ||Upon checking in, the staff wasn’t very nice, cold like. We were supposed to get an email to get the free bus rides confirmation from the gal at the front desk. She never bothered to send us the email. After 2 ½ hours we went downstairs to ask for it. It was finally taken care of by the nicer gentleman. ||The hotel decor had a mix match of everything and anything. Didn’t know whether if it was a Chinese hotel or a Swiss hotel. There were Chinese lion statues with European decor. Confusing. The floor had a dirty yellow color carpet from entry all the way to room. ||Our room wasn’t any better. Nothing modern or up to date aside from the IKEA desk and two chairs. The bathroom sink and toilet blended right in with the carpet, dirty yellow color. No coffee brewer for coffee drinkers like myself when that’s the first thing I have when I wake up. ||Overall, this hotel only has a stunning view. Everything else is “motel” quality. Nothing amazing or extravagant. For the price this place is charging per night, one would expect more. But be prepared for less. ||If you decide to book this place, take into consideration that it’s not what it seems on their website. If none of the above as mentioned doesn’t bother you and you just need an expensive place to sleep, then this hotel shouldn’t be a problem.

Great location on lake shore and lovely view from fourth floor and the balcony. Very friendly staff at the reception and a warm welcome. Breakfast buffet a bit hot and miss with empty containers and lack of glasses if a willing staff doing their best. Handy for town, shops, transport and walks to Queen studio, Chillon castle etc. The Montreux card given by the hotel proved a great saving too for transport, entrances etc. Overall a comfortable stay.

The hotel on the outside is very grand and right in the lake. We had beautiful views from our balcony plus you just walk out the back and you are on a wonderful path into town. The room was big, made especially so due to the very high ceilings. The bathroom was also big with double vanities and a separate water closet. The decor was very tired…it felt like it had been a very grand hotel in the past. We took the stairs to breakfast and were surprised to learn that the hotel is also a med spa…the floor below us was like a hospital with people in white uniforms running around…kind of surreal. The breakfast was ok and only had plain coffee…I love the European breakfast bars with the fancy coffee machines so I can have a morning latte. We were here for one night of a tour of Switzerland and it was fine…the location and view were the biggest pluses!

First time in Montreux so didn’t really know too much. Stephan on reception was very helpful and friendly and gave us lots of information during check in and throughout our stay. Stephan explained the travel card well to us, the car parking situation and helped us with a kettle for the room during our stay. ||Room was nice and clean with great views over the lake. ||At breakfast there was a lot of options available to chose from.

For me, as a Swiss, the Hotel Excelsior in Montreux is one of the best hotels in the world.||The hotel staff are truly angelic and always ready to help in any way. The hotel's location is unique, and the restaurant is truly beautiful and charming. All of the hotel's facilities are, in the truest sense of the word, perfect and fabulous.||We have known the Hotel Excelsior since the mid-1980s; since then, we have visited the hotel almost every summer. For me, it is also associated with wonderful childhood memories.||We have been back from Montreux for two weeks now, and we already miss the Hotel Excelsior.||Best wishes,|Dr. G. R. Garosi

Lovely grand hotel. Charming comfy room with balcony and amazing views. Comfy bed ensuring two good nights sleep during our stay. Excellent breakfast and we enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant.|Swimming pool was quiet and we enjoyed our swims and lounging by the pool.|What would have been nice was tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

Awful service (especially reception staff Ms Smith), poor condition including filthy carpets in common areas multiple gouges out of tile in bathroom, torn wallpaper in toilet room, dirty and too small shower curtain. They did not tell us of daytime noise and construction on the property let alone apologize. Pool was closed for private events on 2 days. They failed to respond to email. Their policies on Expedia differed from their actual policies. We let them know but they showed no interest in contacting expedia. They provided wrong phone numbers 3 times. We requested to be put in touch with manager or owner but were not. Awful service (en particulier le personnel de la réception Mme Smith), mauvais état, y compris les tapis sales dans les espaces communs multiples gouges sur carrelage dans salle de bain, papier peint déchiré dans la salle de toilette, sale et trop petit rideau de douche. Ils ne nous disent de bruit diurne et la construction sur la propriété et encore moins excuser. La piscine était fermée pour des événements privés sur 2 jours. Ils ont échoué à répondre à l'email. Leurs politiques sur Expedia différaient de leurs politiques réelles. Nous leur faisons savoir mais ils montré aucun intérêt à communiquer avec Expédia. Ils ont fourni des numéros de téléphone erronés 3 fois. Nous avons demandé à être mis en contact avec le gestionnaire ou le propriétaire, mais n'étions pas. Schrecklicher Service (vor allem Personal an der Rezeption Frau Smith), einem schlechten Zustand einschließlich schmutzige Teppiche in öffentlichen Bereichen mehrere Riefen aus Fliesen in Bad, zerrissene Tapeten in Toilettenraum , schmutzig und zu klein Duschvorhang. Sie haben uns nicht tagsüber Lärm und den Bau auf dem Grundstück geschweige denn entschuldigen. Pool wurde an 2 Tagen für private Veranstaltungen geschlossen. Es gelang ihnen nicht auf E-Mails zu reagieren. Ihre Politik auf Expedia unterschied sich von ihrer tatsächlichen Politik. Wir lassen sie wissen, aber sie zeigte kein Interesse expedia in Kontakt gebracht wird. Sie lieferten falsche Telefonnummern 3 mal. Wir baten mit Manager oder Eigentümer in Kontakt gebracht werden, waren aber nicht.

Beautiful views, service was good. Parking is an issue. They have 8 spots so if it's busy you'll be parking on the street and having to worry about moving your car every three hours. Aside from that, the breakfast was good, the rooms were spacious, dated, but ours was clean. We also noticed that there were patients receiving health care by nurses. Not sure what that's about?? The area surrounding Lake Geneva is breathtaking.

Needs serious update / renovation. Only thing going for it is great view of Lake Geneva and super easy to walk to the lake. Rooms and property have old musty, stained carpet. Stained wallpaper in room, some moldy spots in bathroom and not enough outlets. Hotel also oddly shares space with a medical clinic and I saw a doctor visit a patient in a room a few doors down from me. No free breakfast when 5 other properties I've stayed at in Switzerland all offer free breakfast.
