Hôtel du Musée

We truly enjoyed our two night stay at Hotel du Musée in Arles. The historic building is lovingly cared for by a friendly and accommodating staff. Interior courtyard is a beauty spot. Breakfast was good value, location excellent. It’s in the old section of town, near the river. If you’re arriving by car make sure you let the staff know so you can gain entrance to this restricted part of town. We dropped our bags off and parked for free at the train station as suggested by William the manager. A lovely 10 minute walk along the River Rhône got us back to the hotel, saving 40 euros! If you’re looking for something unique and memorable give Hotel du Musée a try.

The reviews and the pictures really swayed us to pick this hotel over another. And both were overhyped. Let’s start with the good: the location is great. The rooms are big. The hotel has so much potential to be stunning. However, it just isn’t. Now the bad. It’s just not very clean. Could be the 50 year old fake flowers in vases, or the really filthy day bed in one of the common rooms, or just the dirt on the floor. The bathrooms, while remodeled, were cramped and poorly laid out. The service was just meh. When asked the staff was nice and helpful, but otherwise they stayed in a room (off the reception desk) on a computer with the tv on. I guess I would say this is more of a motel type place (paper cups, mediocre room cleaning service, no refilling of water etc). ***In response to your comment. We never ignored you, we said hello to those who said hello to us. We also did tell the gentleman who suggested the Boulangerie that it was good and we thanked him. Hence the “staff was nice and helpful”. I never commented on the actual tiles (they are old and lovely). You asked how things were as an aside, it was not the first thing you asked on check out. We replied they were “good”, nothing more. You are really going to be annoyed we did not take breakfast with you? We do not eat enough at breakfast to justify €14 per person for breakfast. We simply take coffee and bread. So that comment has no basis. Your hotel has potential. I said as much in the comments. Your reply speaks volumes.

We stay at hotel du musee for two nights and it’s amazing. Checking in was vest easy. The hotel is historic so no elevator. The courtyard is most beautiful. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet. Fresh eggs, ham, bacon, cheese, amazing selection of bread and spread. ||The location in Arles is perfect. Easy walk to all the restaurants and attraction. Love everything about this hotel and the beautiful town.||For traveler not familiar with Many history if town in Europe. Check with your hotel for parking instructions before you unload your bags. : )

This nice little place is a bit hard to find on a small side street, but is charming. It’s an old building with lots of nooks and crannies. There is no elevator, so we had to walk up to the 4th floor to get to our room. It wasn’t a problem for us, but it’s something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues. The room was a decent size, had good closet space and was very clean. The bathroom had room for toiletries and a couple of towels hooks and bars – adequate. There was a mini-fridge & a kettle for making coffee/tea. The TV had a good selection of channels including CNN and BBC. The staff was friendly and helpful – especially William. It had a couple of nice patios, but it was a little chilly for us to use them. They offer an overpriced breakfast – we took a pass. The room had no comfy seating, just 2 hardback chairs. Accessing our email was a problem – not sure exactly why. But, it’s in a great location, quiet, and walking distance to everything. We would stay again.

Very understated hotel. Owners and staff were friendly and helpful. Nice, quiet room. Excellent continental breakfast. Convenient location, close to all the major sites. No elevator, but wasn't an issue. We had a car but didn't need it, and parking was a bit of a hassle. If you don't need a car, don't bother with one.

We stayed here for the second time. We were concerned about the stairs, but thankfully booked the small room just one flight up. This is a lovely small hotel with local atmosphere, located a ten-minute walk from the train station right in the middle of the historic town. The owners are very helpful. the breakfast is a lovely continental self-service meal without the large tourist buffet. Highly recommended.

I travel a lot and have rarely stayed in such a meticulously clean and maintained environment. The staff were all welcoming and the breakfast was very good. The only problem, as always, were my room neighbors, whose conversation I heard until 11:30 pm, between them and on the phone. Unfortunately, there are always guests who forget about the existence of others.

I stayed at the Hotel du Musee for 15 nights while touring Provence. The accommodations were excellent. Breakfast was very good. Laurence and her family were fantastic hosts. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. I would certainly stay here again.

This was our bike tour's hotel for one night in Arles, the town made famous by Van Gogh. Located a short distance from the shore, it's central to the whole downtown Arles area, and is right across the street from the Musee Reattu, hence its name. While the building is quite ancient, they'd made a lot of modern updates and it had one of the most gorgeous patios ever. Our room was spacious with a really cute bathroom. They had one of the best free breakfasts we experienced during our whole trip, with a boiled-egg station, which I hadn't seen before or since. Plus the most amazing croissants, wow. That said, there were a few issues which prevent me from giving them a higher rating: - They went a little crazy with the lavender room fragrance and we were seriously gassed out for most of evening--we had to leave our window open in hopes of dissipating it but it stayed pretty strong the whole time. - The floor of our room was sloped, and the person whose bed was in the sloped corner had the worst night's sleep ever. - The bike storage was on the 2nd floor, and it wasn't easy hauling our rather heavy hybrid bikes up and down the stairs (granted, this is a very specialized problem--most of the guests probably won't have to deal with this) I think this place would be a good value for most travelers and worth a look. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Conveniently located with cute decor and decent amenities, but has some caveats.

What a great little hotel. I stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed the place. While Arles was a little lack luster this family run hotel was great. I enjoyed the nice breakfast, smiling faces, pleasant service and lovely courtyard. Don't hesitate to order a bottle of wine and sit in the courtyard and read a book. Yes the beds could be updated to a more comfortable mattress and a few little things could be repaired but the place has tons of charm. Also I'd recommend that they use a little less lavender fragrance. The other issues was that our neighbor was smoking in their room but I dint hold that against the hotel as it was against policy. Great service and great value!

This is a charming property in the heart of old town. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful if a bit casual. Cons: no elevator, walls are pretty thin between rooms. Self-serve breakfast was very good. The location, room size, and charm makes up for the minor shortcomings.
