Hôtel Du Palais

I stayed for six nights and had a wonderful time. Charming is the best word to describe the hotel - every detail seems thought out, and the staff is very welcoming and polite. They even helped me out with an unrelated travel issue that I was having the day before I checked in. The location is wonderful and very close to shopping, landmarks, restaurants, and public transport. Would stay here again!

Very calm and beautiful place to sit and have a coffee. The waitress is very nice and speaks in English too if you need. They do not have iced coffee, but When I ordered, they were so keen in preparing one for me. Recommended !

My wife and I only stayed here for one night during our visit to Montpellier. The hotel is beautiful and the service is great, it’s all typically French design - like you see in movies and sitting outside at the front having the hotel breakfast was a highlight. Highly recommend staying here, it’s in a very good location and you can park in the public park house across the main road.

Had a small but very efficent room. Loved the option to open windows. Quaint and charming place. Very kind host. Elevator was a plus. Great location, in heart of cité. Will stay again.

A charming little hotel in a great neighborhood. Staff were quite friendly and helpful, allowing me to keep my bike in a side room overnight. The room was small but clean and the AC worked surprisingly well for an older building. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended.

We can't recommend Hotel du Palais highly enough! First, it's in a lovely building on a delightful street in Montpellier's beautiful mostly-pedestrian old town. Second, the location can't be beat! We typically began our day with a coffee & croissant just around the corner in leafy Place de La Canourgue. Everything you could want to see in Montpellier is within a short walk – from Place de la Comedie to Promenade du Peyrou to the Jardin des Plantes. So much to see and so many options for drinks and dining within a very short stroll! And finally, the hotel itself has a great vibe, the staff are gracious and our room was spacious, well appointed and the best of our trip in southern France. AND when I contacted them later in our trip about an item I had left behind, they offered to mail it back to me in Canada at their own expense. I just received it a few days ago, so thank you very much Hotel du Palais! We're so happy that we chose this hotel for our 6-night stay in Montpellier. We could not have done better!

The hotel is well and quietly situated which pleased us when we arrived. Unfortunately our room had a major problem - just inside, there is a step down all 25 cm (10 inches) of it. The floor is dark grey and there is no distinguishing line. It is impossible to see the step in the dark. In fact just after we arrived, I missed my footing and fell full length forward on my face. Fortunately the room was small and I landed squarely on the bed. A few minutes later, my husband followed my example but was more agile than I and fell on hands and knees. To solve the problem of night trips to the en suite we left the bathroom light on and the door almost closed. There are red warning signs on the wall in the corridor but not outside or in the room. They are in french with no translation. Not a problem for us but for others?Otherwise the hotel is pleasant and in walking distance of the centre. The photos are slightly deceptive as to size but most french hotels in old houses are small. Incidentally the hotel's terrace is the pavement space in front. There is no heavy traffic but the hotel is run as much as a tea room as a residence.

I've stayed here twice now, most recently for an entire week in June 2023. It's not 'super fancy', but very clean, and has a lot of charm. The location could not be better, in my opinion. Breakfast is excellent; they have a lower priced continental breakfast in addition to the larger breakfast advertised on the website. Beautiful outdoor tables when the weather is nice. I dealt with quite a few different members of the staff, and all of them were extremely professional and friendly. When you combine that with the reasonable rates I think this place is hard to beat.

I liked this little hotel even though my room was quite small, I had no intention of doing anything there but sleep. I liked the mother / daughter owners because they were so 'French'. For my hotel breakfast I had croissant, baguette, a sweet roll, jellies and honey, a clementine and hot chocolate. I was served a small pot of liquid chocolate and a larger pot of steamed milk. It was delicious. The deaf, house dachshund (named Funey) stopped by for a good morning pet. When I go back to Montpellier, I will stay again.

This is by far the best and most charming hotel in the city center of Montpellier. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The staff, which includes the cutest cat, is extremely friendly and helpful. In addition, the breakfast is amazing and the hotel could not be at a better location. The best cafes, restaurants, wine bars, little parks and touristic attractions are all at a short walking distance. The rates are also incredibly low for such a beautiful historic hotel.

Hotel du Palais consistently exceeds its ** rating with (among other things) an elevator. Heck, maybe I should be giving it FIVE stars as a ** hotel. This does not, fellow Yelpers, make it a ***** hotel or even a **** hotel, or even "palatial" (that 'du Palais' thing noteithstanding). Every room is a little different & the access to your toilet may be a little funky. Wifi fades in and out so this is probably not a place to hang out & stream movies all night. But why would you want to with Montpellier just out your door? The lesson from this review: Learn your * ratings & adjust expectations accordingly.
