One of our all-time top hotel experiences. The hotel's location is extraordinary. The building, itself, is beyond charming. The plaza in front of the hotel is beautiful. The breakfast is plentiful (we always ordered the "large" breakfast) and delicious. And, best of all, the staff is the most helpful hotel team we've ever encountered over many years of travel. They helped us with everything, answered every question, anticipated every need. We booked a "superior" room, which was absolutely fine size-wise with a more-than-ample bathroom, clean, comfortable, and overlooked the plaza. We noted that some reviews complain about the size of the rooms and, it's true, this is not a Marriott. It is an historic hotel in an amazing location in a great city. We can not rate it more highly. And, we thank the staff for helping to make Montpellier a wonderful, memorable experience.

Fantastic hotel to stay on my train journey from Sheffield to Barcelona. The staff were especially helpful as I had lost my phone and they managed to sort things out so I retrieved it when I returned to Paris! Their attitude throughout was courteous, supportive and positive. The hotel is in a great position in the town and everything else was just fine. I will be returning! Professor Ian Cole

We were lucky to find this wonderful hotel On our recent visit to Montpellier. It is in a beautiful part of town. It is wonderfully charming. Comfortable beds & quiet at night. The staff are professional, friendly & most efficient. They serve a scrumptious breakfast & it has a lovely street seating area under shady trees where you can spend the afternoon with a cool drink. I would highly recommend a stay in this wonderful establishment.

What a delightful little hotel in a super part of wonderful Montpellier. Loved the local area and bars and restaurants all seemed very local and not too touristy (even though we were tourists) the décor in the public areas are just lovely and excellent staff. The room we had, we knew it was a small room when we booked as Tour de France was departing which we were there for and whilst yes super small it had a lovely Juliet balcony and the bathroom had a powerful shower and all was very clean. For what we wanted for the couple of nights this was a great choice and would recommend and return to the hotel as well.

Great location at a good price. The neighbourhood is charming and well located. Excellent friendly staff. The hotel has an elevator which is a treat when traveling in Europe! Our room was lovely with a good sized bathroom. Our only wish was for better pillows!!

Really nice place to stay, staff are all lovely, so friendly and helpful, really nice. The location is excellent with the ability to sit outside under some trees and just watch the world go by, really lovely. The room I had was very small but fine for me, I only slept there for a few nights and didn't need the space. The bathroom was very nice, newly done recently I think, but if you were a larger person than me it would definitely be uncomfortable. My knees touched the wall when on the toilet and I had to be careful how I moved in the shower. The breakfast is either small or big and both are great, very fresh and fast with table service. I would definitely stay again here, loved it.

I went on a girls trip to the south of France in end of April, and my first stop was a solo stay in the unbelievably beautiful city of Montpellier to attend a French language school in the mornings. Hotel du Palais was the unexpected highlight of the entire trip! It is so adorably French. I loved my little green room and breakfast outside every morning in the cafe area. Having tea outside or a glass of rosé also became a habit. It is walking distance to an infinite number of fantastic restaurants, markets, and parks. ||The weather was perfection, but I imagine with the right clothing most times of year would be lovely sitting outside and watching the world go by. I love sleeping COLD, so when I discovered there is no AC until the 1st of May, I was worried, but the nights are cool and I remained comfortable with the rooms windows open. ||FYI, I had room 14. It's small with limited storage but the bathroom/shower is spacious for Europe. I loved having the dual balconies with French doors. Not wide enough for chairs but perfect for bringing the outside in: the old stone buildings and narrow streets, the cooing of pigeons, and the ringing of church bells -- literally all the French charm you could ever want.||The staff was WONDERFUL. They were so thoughtful and treated me like a family guest. Yet another reason I want to return! Merci, Hotel du Palais, for making my trip so memorable!

Yelp
I liked this little hotel even though my room was quite small, I had no intention of doing anything there but sleep. I liked the mother / daughter owners because they were so 'French'. For my hotel breakfast I had croissant, baguette, a sweet roll, jellies and honey, a clementine and hot chocolate. I was served a small pot of liquid chocolate and a larger pot of steamed milk. It was delicious. The deaf, house dachshund (named Funey) stopped by for a good morning pet. When I go back to Montpellier, I will stay again.

Yelp
This is by far the best and most charming hotel in the city center of Montpellier. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The staff, which includes the cutest cat, is extremely friendly and helpful. In addition, the breakfast is amazing and the hotel could not be at a better location. The best cafes, restaurants, wine bars, little parks and touristic attractions are all at a short walking distance. The rates are also incredibly low for such a beautiful historic hotel.

Yelp
Hotel du Palais consistently exceeds its ** rating with (among other things) an elevator. Heck, maybe I should be giving it FIVE stars as a ** hotel. This does not, fellow Yelpers, make it a ***** hotel or even a **** hotel, or even "palatial" (that 'du Palais' thing noteithstanding). Every room is a little different & the access to your toilet may be a little funky. Wifi fades in and out so this is probably not a place to hang out & stream movies all night. But why would you want to with Montpellier just out your door? The lesson from this review: Learn your * ratings & adjust expectations accordingly.
