The only positive thing I can say about this “hotel” is the location is good. I’ve had better hospitality falling asleep at a party than I did during my 4 night stay at “Hotel du theatre”.
When I arrived, my driver had to stop down the road after taking 6 different routes trying to reach the hotel. The roads were all closed / blocked by pillars and the 15 minute drive ended up being 45 minutes. After finally reaching the hotel, I tried to enter the building, but the door was locked and lights were off inside. I could see an empty desk through the window, despite it being “open reception hours. I looked around and saw a keypad on the side of the door, and remembered my emails mentioning I would get a code.
I looked through my emails for my door code and could not find it anywhere. I was very tired and just wanted to get to my room, so I called the phone number for the hotel.
I speak a little bit of French but the lady on the phone did not speak any English. I did my best to speak slow in English, and to try in French… but she did not understand my English and I could not understand her French, due to how fast she was speaking. She eventually gave up and told me that she would call her “friend” to open the door. A young man came and opened the door for me and then sat behind the desk. He did not say anything to me, and was on a computer. I assumed he was checking me in but had no idea what was going on. He then handed me a piece of paper with 2 numbers on it. I was confused, so he pulled out his google translate and went back and forth with me so I could figure out what was going on.
When I finally got to my room, I started to put my bags down and was met with a “welcome letter”. It told guests that they were under a change of management and that the hotel is not up to par. It also asked guests to give high ratings and if a guest wanted to give a rating lower than 8-10, to not review their stay at all.
This explained why I had to turn on the hallway lights myself… but the timers did not last long enough for me to climb all the stairs to my room.
I decided to use the washroom and was absolutely disgusted. There was still hair from the previous guest on the toilet, counter, in the shower and all over the bases of the wall. The bathroom counter was stained and had splatters of white paint on various spots, but worst of all, it was covered in a layer of dust / dirt. The corners connecting to the wall had hair and dust bunnies in them. It was absolutely disgusting, and as someone who is neurotypical, set me into a panic attack. I felt uncomfortable with the space I was supposed to “live” in for the next 5 days.
I asked to change my room and was brought up a floor to a much smaller room that was only slightly cleaner than the previous. The baseboards and shower were still covered in hair, and the toilet seat had a big crack down the middle. At that point I had given up and was exhausted. I decided to make the most of it, cleaned the bathroom, then went to bed.
My room was never cleaned, small garbages emptied or towels replaced once during my whole stay. My shower temperature was either hot or cold, and the head of the shower was falling off the wall so badly, I was afraid to touch it! The window in my room did not open properly and the walls were paper thin. The noise from the building traveled so much that it sounded like my bathroom door was being opened and closed when my neighbour gently used their door. It was so loud my boyfriend could hear in on the phone! Ad said there was breakfast hall but I never saw any ever.
It felt more like staying at an empty apartment building than a hotel. I only saw 1 staff member twice during my whole stay (and I left/returned multiple times a day, throughout the day)
