So to add context this was a 60th birthday event including hotel stay (so big shout out to Colleen from events for such amazing organisation)||Check in was smooth and I met Ben and some of his team who made sure all my requests were taken care of. ||We then went downstairs to the cellar for a private wine tasting for 4. I have been to a real tastings in and around the city but this one was by far the BEST! Ben is incredibly knowledgable, the selection of wine was amazing, and the conversation was 2-way, not just a list of facts for each wine. Ben’s enthusiasm and passion was infectious and it was a literal journey through old world and new. Ambience was sublime. Decor is amazing. 10/10||We were then taken upstairs where the rest of the family was waiting to have a surprise champagne reception. The transmission was smooth and Ben and the team really worked hard to make the surprise magical (for my father, whose birthday it was). ||Then the private dining room! Incredible! The set up was amazing and all the drinks were there waiting. Food queries were dealt with. Ben, who had paid close attention to one of my throw away comments about wine, then upgraded the bottles for the table to superior wines specially chosen based on preference. Such a simple touch yet it had such a big impact. The food was delicious and they were patient with the 2 and 3 year old children who were doing what children do (causing chaos). No faults with the dining element. 10/10. ||We all then stayed in the hotel, all the rooms were spotless. The suite for my dad had been decorated and the bed was the biggest I have ever seen. Reception staff were amazing amending some of the bed set ups for the family and no request felt too much. Overnight stay 10/10. ||I cannot express enough thanks to the staff for helping me make my dad’s 60th birthday so magical. I will certainly be hosting events here again. ||Ps. Thank you Ben for letting me know what wine glasses we used!

We stayed at the Hotel Du Vin Birmingham at the end of December and couldn't be happier with our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was perfect for what we needed (the beds are especially comfortable) and the decor/design of the hotel was excellent! The bathroom was very stylish, with some nice products supplied. I had a shower in the morning, and the water pressure was immense! Stef on reception was more than happy to answer our questions and sort out a couple of requests that we made.|We had a three-course dinner in the bistro, which was superb. Our helpful server, Ben, was extremely knowledgeable about both the food and the wine to go with it. |If we stay in Birmingham again, we'll definitely be back!

Came here with my family recently. Was very nice with excellent service. The staff was lovely, very attentive, and went out of their way to make our stay as nice as possible. The restaurant and bar were fantastic, the cocktails were delicious and the wide range of alcohols available was impressive. The food was also great, every dish was thought out and delicious. Would highly recommend, even just to stop by for a really nice dinner.

What a gorgeous hotel. The building is beautiful and the rooms are outstanding. What makes a great hotel is the staff, and Stafanie is a little treasure. From her warm and welcoming greeting, to a fond farewell, she really exemplifies the standards I've come to expect from Hotel Du Vin.

Ben, the sommelier at the hotel, gave us an excellent tasting menu accompanied by lots of information and advice on wine choices and pairings. He definitely went ‘above and beyond’ to give us a brilliant experience. Thank you Ben for a great Sunday evening (and my head only hurt a little bit on Monday😄)

We booked, in mid-October, to hire a private dining room at Hotel du Vin Birmingham, the Sassicaia Room, for a birthday/Christmas celebration on 21st December. This is something we have done for many years, at Hotel du Vin, for a special group of friends - this year there were 21 of us. As usual, the booking process was straightforward, any queries were quickly sorted out, the menu was varied and included in the package was wine, prosecco or soft drinks and even the request of beer, for one of the guests was accommodated. The Sassicaia room looked stunningly beautiful when we arrived, the food and service was good considering the limited staff, but certainly didn't affect the enjoyment of the evening. We took our own music to play, which resulted in us again having a lovely successful evening.

Been here a couple of times now for our works Christmas party and it was amazing. The staff were lovely, really helpful and the food was amazing! I've stayed over in one of the suites on a separate occasion and the room was just perfect - it is pricey but you defo get what you pay for. Always have a wonderful time here

Absolutely gorgeous hotel situated in the heart of Birmingham. The rooms are very spacious and clean. If you have the option to upgrade while you are there I highly recommend it. All the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful, would especially like to thank Omar for his outstanding customer service and help over our stay. Will be coming back very soon

Yelp
I haven't stayed at Hotel du Vin, but I visited recently for an event and I'll review based on that. First off, this is a beautiful building! A former eye hospital turned hotel, it is a great big hunk of Victorian red brick right in the middle of Birmingham. Outside the building has plenty of nice features and the interior is even more opulent. There's a rather grand entrance hall with the bar off to one side and the bistro to the other. The event I attended was a film screening held in the courtyard, which is just off the entrance hall, in the centre of the building. At one time this area would have been open air, with a gallery running around the outside. Now, though, there's a clear roof above and it serves as a dining area. The space would make a nice venue for a party or similar gathering, and worked well for the film screening. The hotel staff were on hand to serve food and drinks. After the screening my friends and I went into the hotel bar for some drinks. Although the drinks aren't cheap (as to be expected), there is a very good selection and the staff provide complimentary bar snacks. The bar is quite intimate, with painted walls and low lighting. I'll be heading back for a drink for sure, as the atmosphere was nice and relaxed.

Yelp
Really disappointing experience as the waitress that seemed to have a managerial position was in a bad mood and rude. She cleared our plates without asking whether we were done and she was very unfriendly Patrick though who was the sommelier was really lovely. Recommended a nice bottle of wine, talked to us about the different types of Portuguese wine and was really! The place itself is lovely, but my colleague had to return the steak which wasn't good (£26) and the salad wasn't very good either.

Yelp
Breakfast Review: I had a breakfast meeting this morning and couldn't believe my luck when my colleague suggested Hotel du Vin - a venue that I hadn't considered for breakfast before? Breakfast was great, service was excellent and very prompt. Coffee was good too. At £16.95, its the most expensive I have eaten in Birmingham - but this does come with access to the pastries and cereals too - so its still expensive though, compared to others locally. Breakfast consists of eggs, (I had 2 perfectly poached ones), 2 bacon, a flat mushroom, half a tomato, black pudding, (not great - a bit crumbly) and a tiny sausage. Its a shame about the sausage - it should have been bigger or another should have been added to the breakfast. Would I go back? Possibly. There is some great competition in Birmingham

Yelp
Police turned up to inspect a persons room as we are registering in. (No one bats an eye). Restaurant with 3 idle wait staff 50 empty seats 2 of the remaining 5 tables ending their meals "fully booked" we are told to have snacks in the bar or eat in our rooms because they will do room service instead. What is going on in this place? Why stay at a bistro hotel if we can't eat there? Also why is our door a foot shorter than everyone else's? I've smacked my head every time I try to leave our rooms. The stairs to the bath room are cute if not annoying.

Yelp
Now, I'm not one to frequent many hotels in my own City. This is actually a bit of a shame, as many of them seem to offer very nice bars and restaurants... A meal at HdV ended up being a wonderful treat for my 30th birthday (as well as a very nice surprise). Not being told where we were going proved to make the whole experience very exciting. All I was told initially was "you've been there, but never eaten there" (having eaten my way around Birmingham, I was rather perplexed at this). On the way down to Church Street, however, I clocked that whilst I have enjoyed rather excellent cocktails here, I haven't ever eaten a meal! Queue excitement rising once again. Hotel Du Vin Bistro has a lovely, rustic feel (in keeping with the decor) and several different seating areas, making it bigger than you think. We had the chateaubriand with a bottle of wine deal (£50), which was a gorgeous serving of very fine steak served with a little bit of green, some fries and a bottle of wine. All the food was amazing! We also had a cocktail and a creme brulee to share at the end of our meal. The food was divine and the service was spot on. The disappointment came in the form of dirty and cramped toilets (which didn't reflect the rest of the venue at all). I think if they sorted out this issue (and had remembered to put the 30th birthday greetings on my plate as they had advised my partner they would *sad face*), they could make this a 5* experience.

Yelp
One of the best delights in Birmingham. If you're an Afternoon Tea fan like me, do doubt you have already unwrapped this gem and tasted it for yourself. I first tried this one out (no arm twisting needed) for a friends 30th birthday and was bowled over by the service, the standards and the ambience. I've been in the hotel many times but not in the lounge where Afternoon tea is served by a Tea Sommelier. You may already now that I don't drink tea unless it's chai which unfortunately they didn't serve. But that doesn't diminish the 5 stars earned by the exquisite finger sandwiches including cue cumber and the ample mini scones and enormous variety of teeny tiny cakes. The staff just could not do enough and hovered around just the right amount of time to offer more drinks (yes please) and food (we couldn't possibly and we took home goodie bags). An absolute must.

Yelp
Half price champagne on Friday between 5-7pm! A very nice end to the working week!;) The hotel was the former Eye Hospital and the renovation into a bar, restaurant and hotel has been done very elegantly. The restaurant itself has a simply decorated French feel to it with a relaxing atmosphere. They do nice relaxing Sunday lunches here and you don't feel rushed. Nevertheless if you only want a quick express lunch they are happy to cater for that too. The 'bubble bar' opposite is a well lit little champagne and wine bar, which can get very busy ( i think they serve brunch here on Sundays too). Downstairs is the 'pub' which has nice comfy sofas and a room which can be hired for private functions.

Yelp
I've been trying out a few afternoon teas across Birmingham and Hotel du Vin has outclassed them all - and it's reasonably priced, too. You sit in the plush and slightly moody mini lounge near the bar where you can pick from menus including the classic afternoon tea, champagne tea, cocktail tea or G&T. We had classic this time but I'll be back for another... Du Vin know quality and so have a small selection of good loose leaf teas, accompanied by tasty finger sandwiches, good scones and today we had pistachio macaroons, lemon Madeleines, carrot cake and chocolate brownie, phew. Plenty to eat, but not so much that we needed to leave any behind. Du Vin has the real boutique hotel feel, they know how good service works and the food was, of course, great. Perfect for a bit of afternoon indulgence. Also, most afternoon teas run til 4pm only, whereas du Vin serve until 5pm.

Yelp
Always a pleasure coming here. This was a quick in and out job, following a cheeky weekend gym sesh, whereby my favourite gym manager (Cora) treated me and Em to 2 glasses of champagne and some nibbles for our 5 year wedding anniversary! Legend. Having stayed here before, I can say that the eggs benedict is one of the best in Brum, and the breakfast setting in the bistro is lovely.

Yelp
I've been to Hotel Du Vin Birmingham a number of times before and have always had an amazing experience. As someone who likes rich tasting food, I am never not satisfied... and I am no wine-buff, but the wine list is probably the biggest I've ever seen. Luckily for me there is always a helpful wine sommelier on hand to recommend you something special... or more importantly something great to meet my budget! Last year two of my closest friends got engaged here, so when I was asked to arrange a joint (sophisticated) Hen & Stag Do I thought it would be the perfect venue. From the first point of contact I was amazed how accommodating Hotel Du Vin were. We had a strict budget as both the girls and boys were doing activities during the day, which I thought for a Saturday night they would turn us away, but this was not the case. The deal they have on at the moment is for 2 course meal with wine for only £15/person off a set menu full of around 4 choices for each course. This was perfect for our party of just under 20 people. On the day of our visit (where it rained ALL DAY!) the area we originally had was flooded. We had no idea until we arrived and greeted and showed us to the courtyard where we had a long table, decorated with centrepieces and laid out perfectly for a celebration. I thought they must have made a mistake as it looked like a setting for a wedding, not a "Hen & Stag Do!". The staff were very apologetic about having to move us at short notice and hoped the new "area" was okay?! It was more than okay, it was fantastic. They even offered us complimentary fizz to make up for the disruption... which we gladly accepted, albeit felt slightly guilty as the new venue could not have been any better. The courtyard has a retractable roof, which we probably broke, having opened and closed it so many times... a few times because of rain, a couple of times because it was so cool to see! It is also very private, we felt very privileged to be there. We had an amazing waitress who was with us for the duration who made sure everyone did not have to do a thing but enjoy. We had wine on standby, and other drinks she ordered through the bar and bought out with no delay. She made sure everyone got what they ordered, and there was no wait on the food to arrive or for plates to be cleared. We were not being rushed at any time, and ended up staying until the bar closed... we started at 6pm! Our waitress even put on a mini disco for us all and gave us access to her i-phone to play any of our favourite songs through Spotify. The service, to say the least, was awesome. The food as always was great. My starter of heritage tomatoes was fresh and perfect starter to have followed by the Hotel du Vin Burger... which was rich and meaty. We had bought our own cake for dessert which unfortunately was not decorated very well, but after speaking to the Hotel du Vin staff, their patisserie chef said not to worry and he would be able to do something with it. He re-decorated the whole thing and at no cost. This was great end to our meal, and just highlighted how amazing the staff are here. They always go above and beyond of what you would expect. From making sure we had a good time, providing a far from suitable setting to amazing service... with the amazing food, and wine... I would not hesitate to recommend them. That was a bit of a long review... but just wanted to mention everything that they did for us, so if you're planning a night out and want somewhere where you will be well looked after, give Hotel Du Vin a call and see what they can do. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Had a lovely evening for my friend's birthday. Staff were very polite but friendly and were able to competently describe dishes on the menu. If you have a Gourmet card you can get discount on main courses (241 during the week). The bouillabaisse which originally looked quite small was very filling & the waiter provided additional bread free of charge. The restaurant had a reasonably busy considering it was during the week ( a Thursday) which added to the atmosphere and there are many private dining rooms which were in use, these offer a reasonably proved set menu. Will definitely return on the gourmet card offer.

Yelp
I'm writing a blog piece for my BrumHour blog about places to stay in Birmingham but I wanted to tell you - my fellow yelpers - all about this hotel first! I was invited by the manager to have a look around today just to see what the former Eye Hospital looks like. Once you step of the street you are transported from the urban jungle of central Birmingham to a different world of bespoke service and great customer service. The bistro looks stunning and wouldn't be out of place in Paris with its cool vibe. The tabled courtyard has a retractable roof which was already bright and airy and made me want to organise a meeting or afternoon tea there and then. We explored two of the levels and took a look in a suite with its own three piece sofa and adjoining room. Less than half of the 66 rooms are "standard" and the standard room was very plush with sleigh beds milk in the fridge and walk-in monsoon showers. Downstairs there's a lovely smelling spa with wafts of aromatic oils drifting along the corridor and on the other side of that is a PUB with its own entrance from the street! The pub itself was cosy with lots of snug areas. Treating someone? Then a night here will be the best thing you can do! I'll be back. unless you want to treat me :-)

Yelp
As a late Christmas present, I treated my girlfriend to a spa treatment, of her choice at Hotel Du Vin and she was extremely impressed, both at the time and today. She chose to have a mud wrap in the spa are which is located downstairs as you walk through the grande entrance, in what really is a remarkable building. As soon as you walk in you can sense the class surrounding the place. My girlfriend chose to indulge in a mud wrap and was made to feel at home straight away, even being offered a short stint in a 'relaxation room' in order to prepare for her treatment. Every room there was immaculate and spotless, each being looked after by an extremely helpful member of staff. She enjoyed the whole treatment and unlike other spas, she remained un-fussed and was allowed to spend as long as she saw fit in and around the spa area. The high level of customer service and overall cleanliness is of the up-most quality, separating Hotel Du Vin from its competitors.

Yelp
The worst afternoon tea I've ever had. For 45£ for two people. We booked for the afternoon tea but they somehow don't have electronic information and wrote it on paper , so they couldn't find our information. From this , I feel as if they hadn't prepared for our booking. Sandwiches took a long time , and they looked like a plate for a kids party. Then the afternoon tea arrived after a long wait. The only edible thing was the brownies, the rest was just horrible. I had high expectations as people have reviewed it nicely , but the scones were a joke. It was dry, cold and felt like it had been left out for a while. (see picture , it was inedible) I left the restaurant feeling extremely disappointed, I will not be coming back here again.

Yelp
The Hotel du Vin chains, as any magazine-trolling girl worth her salt knows, are constantly featured in the likes of Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, and seem to be in wedding magazines every month. They are a chain, but ohhhh, what a chain. In each city, the Malmaison group (who own the hotels) buy up properties with a good history, and generally keep the patina of the buildings. The Hotel du Vin in Birmingham was the old Victorian-era Eye Hospital, and one can still see traces (and signs) of the old use for the building. It is located in the Financial District of Brum. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare in the week, but street parking is plentiful as long as the meters are fed. The Hotel offers valet parking for £20. My husband and I had our wedding reception here, and the guests were so very impressed at our "amazingly posh" venue. When guests enter the hotel, the restaurant is off to the right and the bar to the left. The foyer is all marble, gilt with tall dark marble columns, and the reception desk is discreetly tucked away to the right. The lighting is low and ambient, and really sets the chic tone of the place. One of my favourite foyer features (yes, alliteration!) is the punched-metal lift -- very moderne, dear. The rooms are delicious. Even the standard double that we saw had enormous dark wood wardrobes and plenty of room to walk around. The rooms are named after Champagne houses, not numbered. One of the rooms' defining features is the bathroom -- large, two-person tubs and wet rooms, lovely gilt mirrors. We stayed in one of the suites reserved for wedding parties/honeymoons, and all the sofas and armchairs were comfortable and tasteful. The bed, which I fell into exhausted at 2am was one of the most comfy hotel beds I've slept in. Like most couples, we searched for months for the perfect venue. Though we are not strapped for cash, we did not want to splash out more than four figures for our venue and food. Unfortunately, every venue we saw was pushing set menus and price-per-head fees on us. The menus were boring, typical and frankly, not worth the price. Though the Hotel du Vin is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the country, the wedding planner, Emma, sat down with us, and told us honestly that she could work with nearly any budget. She unfailingly found the right combination of offerings to suit our tastes and budget. We had an afternoon wedding, and headed to the Hotel (in a pink cadillac!) around 6pm. Guests were greeted in the Atrium with a glass of champagne and strawberries. The Atrium is one of the bookable areas of the hotel, and is as its name implies. With fun sculptures and comfortable wicker seating and two fountains, it's a spacious, light space. The roof is covered with mesh netting to ensure pigeons don't ruin your caviar, and the exciting feature is an all-glass ceiling that still allows gorgeous natural light should the British elements hound your event. Because of the Cross-Pond union, we chose to serve guests a menu of afternoon tea -- finger sandwiches, cakes, savoury tarts and salad. The Hotel du Vin had 65 pages worth of menu options to suit all budgets and tastes. After the tea, we headed downstairs to the Pub du Vin, which is held in the wine cellar. Gorgeously decorated like a Cigar club with yellowish walls, dark mahogany furnishings and dark leather, guests can look into the wine cellar and cigar stores, which adds a touch of class. For the evening menu, we served "All-American" treats, including mini pizzas, mini burgers, BBQ wings, mini Cornettos and cheesecakes. It sounds naff, but it was all gourmet kind of stuff, with stilton and caramelized onions on the burgers, etc. The bar staff and everyone we encountered was unfailingly polite and went above and beyond to help us out, during the reception and our subsequent stay. The Art Nouveau decor of this place has to be seen to be believed. There are so many small touches and details, I felt like I was in Disneyland! An absolutely amazing place to stay. If you want to sample the bar and see the decor without the price tag, they often do whisky and wine tastings and have live jazz in the Atrium.

Yelp
What differentiates Hotel du Vin from its competitors is an unbelievably high and consistent level of customer service. This is a venue where regular visitors, celebrities, and first time visitors alike, all enjoy the same immaculate welcome. Whether attending a formal function, enjoying a drink after work or relaxing over the weekend, I am yet to walk away from Hotel du Vin feeling anything other than happy and to be honest, a little spoilt by the attention received. Upon entrance, you are welcomed by a classical bar - essentially a Champagne Bar but hosting a selection of spirits, rum in particular, which is unequalled in Birmingham. Across the reception is the Bistro / Restaurant which is remarkably good value for money, and always busy, testament to the standard of food. The Pub du Vin cellar bar has now been laid out as a more traditional bar, and is a perfect place to unwind after work or toake a client at lunch. Overall, Hotel du Vin caters for all occasions and despite having a deserved reputation as a 'classier' venue, is welcoming to a very diverse population. Wonderful Venue, could I give it more than 5 stars, I happily would!

H C.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea at Hotel Du Vin. The sandwiches were yummy and the cakes exceedingly good! What stood out the most was the service, they truly have set a high standard of service here and I will definitely be coming back. I do recommend reserving a table for afternoon tea to avoid disappointment.

Conny T.

Yelp
We visited Hotel Du Vin for their Sunday Lunch over Christmas. For £25 you get 3 courses (soup, mains and desert) and possibly my favourite part, unlimited trips to the market table. The market table consists of seafood, charcuterie, various condiments, pates and breads to name but a few. The food was fantastic along with the service, the food was pretty rich - but it was a special occasion. A great place to go if you're looking for a fancy sunday lunch (or if you're looking to save up all your meals and just go for one BIG meal).

Yelp
Heart-warming. That really is the best word for this place. I went with my mum and 2 younger sisters to the Bistro for an early xmas dinner the Saturday before Christmas, as I was escaping to warmer shores on the actual day. It turned out to be exactly the right choice for us. We bustled in from the cold, and due to confused taxi driver delays, we only had a brief few seconds to ooh at the gorgeous marble lobby and sweeping staircase. The Bistro itself manages to be both grand and cosy at the same time, and looks much how you'd imagine the dining room of your dream mansion to be; high ceilings, wood-panelled walls of framed pictures and maps, windowsills of wine bottles, comfy chairs, soft lamps and candlelit tables. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special by the staff, who took our coats and ushered us through the larger room of crowded tables to one of the more spacious areas at the back. Both the waitress and the sommelier were so friendly and helpful in answering questions on the menu and helping us choose, though it got harder to attract their attention later in the evening once it had filled up. The food and drink weren't exceptional but didn't disappoint: a bottle of pink champagne was a nice treat to kick off (not each obviously), then we all chose the same goat's cheese starter from the xmas menu. For main I had to get my annual turkey with all the trimmings fix which was cooked well with a nice amount of gravy. The veg came in bowls to share and as I could've predicted the roast potatoes and parsnips disappeared, whilst there were a few lonely sprouts left at the end (which sadly/thankfully were rock hard and hadn't been cooked enough to get a fork into). Dessert made our smiles even bigger - I got my xmas pudding hit, Mum and Mini liked the apple tart, whilst I think Micro did the best out of us all with an awesome cheese board (thankfully she shared a bit with a jealous older sister). Coffee was served with cute mini mince pies which mum promptly smuggled into her handbag given we were all about to burst. The xmas menu felt pretty good value for such a nice venue, and it was good to go somewhere with the posh factor that wasn't pretentious, so we could still laugh as loudly as we usually do! It was this atmosphere that carried it to the fifth star for me. I'd recommend it as a special occasion treat, or to take a date or someone you want to impress, and would suggest an early evening booking so the staff are more attentive. I'll be back to try out the hotel bar and also see how it looks without the xmas décor...

Yelp
Visited the Bistro for afternoon tea. Hotel du Vin is in a beautiful old converted eye hospital and it is very elegant. The reception area is lovely and the bistro has been charmingly decked out. We were unsure where to check in for afternoon tea amd asked at reception. The receptionist sent us to the Bubble Bar, who then took us through to the Bistro! There are lots of afternoon tea options, including the opportunity to have a G&T, champagne or a cocktail. I went for the £19.95 G&T option, which is about £4 more than the standard option. They have a really good selection of teas, served in beautiful tea pots and cups. I had darjeeling but they have a whole range to choose from! The afternoon tea was served on two tiers, sandwiches on the bottom, scones and pastries on top. The sandwiches were the usual options- salmon, cheese and onion, prawn cocktail and coronation chicken. The prawn was my favourite. I felt they could have been more generous with the fillings. The scones were nice enough and I liked the strawberry jam a lot. We had to ask fot more cream! The cakes were definitely the star of the show. We had fruit tea loaf, mini victoria sponges, meringue nests and mini lemon possets. The possets were absolutely beautiful,I could have had ten! This isn't THE best afternoon tea in Birmingham, but the lovely surroundings make it a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon. There's plenty to like.

Yelp
I'm reviewing the champagne bar at HdV. I've been going there for years and have experienced many nights of fantastic and attentive service and great atmosphere. But over the past 18 months or so that has become a distant memory! I waited to be served for well over 5minutes while the barman chatted to his friend about a date she had had and was ignored by other staff waltzing about. Looking around, the bar looked tired and old, there was a large tear in the sofa that was disingenuous to the 'luxury' of the location. You don't find ripped seats on Broad St so why on the allegedly classier Church St? I waited over 20mins for two sandwiches from nonchalant staff. Fed up and disappointed, I won't be back and I await the reopening of The Grand Hotel to give this place the swift hard kick up the backside it desperately needs. Its slipped badly

Yelp
Love randomly walking into a beer festival, with no idea it was there. Especially wouldn't expect it at a rather trendy looking bar like this. Brewdog Paradox, smoked and from a whiskey cask was deliciously strong (and came with a free brownie!). My other two beers (Blue Monkey Revolution and All Gates Moteuka) couldn't quite live up to the thick smoky nectar, but they were not bad. Unfortunately a festival visit doesn't quite give an authentic view of the pub for review purposes, but it is definitely worth at least a 4. Oh and the randy dandy Russell Brand wandered through the bar too (guess he was staying in the hotel).

Yelp
Hotel du Vin with its grandiose and distinguished interior, exquisite food and exemplary service delivers a premium and sublime (sitting) and eating experience. With a plentiful continental buffet available, constantly being replenished by attentive waiting staff, I was very content to gorge on croissant, fresh fruit and cured meats until my eggs benedict with salmon arrived. And. . . this was probably the finest eggs benedict I have ever had - simply supreme. Everything was precisely as (I think) it should be. Coffee followed and I felt very satisfied indeed after eating such a delicious meal. I sat with family all morning, reminiscing and enthusing, and wholly enjoying the privileges that only a venue as fine as Hotel du Vin offers. I cannot fault the experience; Hotel du Vin is an outstanding venue to be savoured entirely.

Yelp
When looking for somewhere to take my wife for her birthday I was struggling. Vicky, being Vicky, has eaten at pretty much every decent restaurant in the city so barring the ones that were WAY out of my price range I booked is in at Hotel du Vin after spying a deal on a well known voucher website for Chateaubriand and a bottle of wine for 2 for less than £50 (5 whole pence less in fact!). However, unbeknown to me, that was only a 5 pence saving over their regular price for the meal. But that's not anything to do with HDV, I'm merely setting the scene. So after an early afternoon espresso martini elsewhere we headed in to Hotel du Vin for a spot of lunch. We were seated promptly and given our pick of the tables and almost as soon as we sat down we were presented with basket of fresh bread, butter, oil and vinegar to get us started. The bread was warm and fluffy, the butter whipped beautifully and while we dug into that our hostess came over and asked us how we would like our beef cooked and what sauces we would like. Blue was the very quick answer from us and we decided on garlic butter to go with our meal. Our wine was delivered and perfectly complemented the beef which, when it arrived steaming on a board, was carved into thick slices and distributed onto our plates. Absolutely perfectly cooked, tender, bloody and so tasty. The skin-on fries to accompany were delicious as well - especially doused in garlic butter (which was just the right level of garlic to be tasty but not overpowering). Hotel du Vin has a gorgeous looking restaurant, the staff were friendly and welcoming, although when I mentioned it was Vicky's birthday and was assured they would decorate the plate for her dessert accordingly it never materialised. But that didn't detract from what was a lovely meal. The toilets, however, are a bit of a let down. For such a place to have toilets in quite the state of disrepair that didn't seem that well cleaned was a bit of a disappointment. Although you don't totally judge a restaurant on it's toilet facilities it seems to me that if you go to the effort of making the rest of the establishment look great the least you can do is make sure every part of it is up to scratch. But that's by the by. The chateaubriand deal is incredibly good value for money, we were stuffed by the end of it (and the creme brulee we had for dessert) and, as I said previously, the wine complements the sublime beef absolutely perfectly.

Yelp
Wonderful wonderful place. Rooms were huge and beautiful, staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Nice enough hotel, in good location. Owned by the same guys as the Malmaison chain, but not as modern-trendy-cool, more vintage-old-school. I'd heard good things about the hotel, but I was slightly dissapointed. My room wasn't very big, and the bathroom was nothing special. I'd rather stay at Malmaison for similar money. The rooms aren't numbered, they're all named after famous wineries and champagne houses (Bollinger, Dom Perignon, Concha y Toro etc) which is a cute touch.

Yelp
This use to be the old Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital and Hotel du Vin has done a sympathetic conversion. It's probably about 10 years ago and is a popular drinking haunt if you want a bit of style and somewhere not townie. There's the champagne bar on the ground floor and then the cellar bar with a cigar room (think there is still). Does very good food and fantastic wine selection which the sommelier will advise you on if you are not a wine aficionado. Expect to spot the occasional celebrity. Another great place for functions. Lovely courtyard in the summer, there's a snooker room and another room (forgotten the name). Of course mustnt forget that it's a hotel! All rooms named, i think after famous wines. Some amazing rooms (with matching prices). Top room has 2 roll top baths side by side im told! Rooms done up to high standard as you would expect.

Yelp
Review on the restaurant.Arrived at Hotel Du Vin on a Friday night, we were lucky and found a parking space right outside (which is extremely unusual around there). The hotel looked superb, it was beautifully decorated with friendly staff ready to greet you. The restaurant was full (luckily we had booked 2 weeks in advance), and the Decor was extremely French as you'd expect. For starters we had a Goat's cheese, beetroot, walnut and mixed leaf salad & a Red onion, rocket and mixed cheese tart, petite salade They arrived about 20 minutes after ordering. The Goats cheese was cooked just right with the salad been simple with thin strands of beetroot for colour & flavour. The Red onion tart was good, nothing special, it was let down by being slightly too dry. For main we had a Char grilled rib-eye steak, slow roast tomatoes, snail and garlic butter, hand cut chips & a Pan fried sea bass with crushed puree of summer peas, brown shrimps, and tomato and herb beurre blanc They arrived about 25 minutes after we had finished our starters. The steak came out on a wooden board and was cooked perfectly how I asked for it (medium) and tasted perfect, the hand cut chips were served in a paper cone. These were very disappointing, they were fries not chips (the chefs hand cutting ability is remarkably like a chip cutting machine). Presentation wise it looked good apart from the fries! The sea bass was a good size, very moist and tasted fresh, shrimps were good and the puree of summer peas were surprisingly very tasty (for peas), presentation was good. For Desert we had 2x crème brulee You can't really go wrong with a crème brulee unless you burn the sugar, and they didn't, it tasted divine, and it was huge, 1 brulee would easily be substantial enough for 1, although we ate them both with ease. For wine we had the Balfour Brut Rose at £49 which was light & fruity. The wine waiter was extremely knowledgeable and polite. Overall the service, food and the atmosphere was very good, no complaintsapart from the chunky chip fries! The bill was £120 + service charge

Yelp
I booked the Hotel du Vin bistro for dinner for myself and my wife as part of our anniversary celebrations. We booked a table for quite late in the evening due to the time we were arriving into the city. We arrived a little early and were seated in the "courtyard" as the main restaurant was very busy. The courtyard is a very charming indoor area, nicely lit and quite intimate...until a rather loud group of people came and helped themselves to a table right next to us and, against the wishes of one of the servers (possibly the assistant manager), refused to move even though the table had been prepared for a group who'd been waiting sometime in the bar area. We were seen by our waiter, a friendly French young man, quite quickly and my wine was delivered within about 10 minutes. However it was over 30 minutes, and asking several times, that my wifes' soft drink was delivered to the table. After ordering our food, we waited around 30 minutes before it arrived. By this point we'd been seated for about an hour. I had the Dandelion and Burdock Ham Hock and my wife the Roast Chicken. Both were incredibly tasty. After another long wait our dessert order was taken and our table cleared. My wife had a fantastic Tarte au Citron and I had a delicious Treacle tart paired with a really nice Tokaji. All in all, from seated to paying, we were there for around 2 and a half hours. For a two course meal. This is ridiculous. Our waiter was apologetic and assured us that they were normally not that busy on a saturday evening and that they normally were much quicker. This didn't do anything to improve the experience we had and we were glad to be out of there. We will probably not be returning to Hotel du Vin to eat, there are many restaurants in Birmingham with the same quality and better customer service.

Yelp
Housed in the Victorian splendour of the old eye hospital, Hotel du Vin comprises a restaurant, wine bar and just round the corner a pub. I'm probably also stating the obvious when I say it is also a fairly posh hotel with spa facilities. It also houses a billiard room, lovely toilets and best of all a covered courtyard with water feature where you can take your drinks. I love Hotel du Vin almost despite myself - on the one hand I find it almost unbearably snobby - where the wrong choice of wine or a misplaced Brummie vowel can result in a funny look from the bar staff but on the other it is an undeniably lovely place to have a drink - the wine bar features comfy sofas and the pub part has a nice back room where you can escape (the sometimes rather loud) masses. Their selection of drinks - is as you'd expect impressive. I've had mixed experiences of the restaurant - the portions are certainly generous but for modern British/French cuisine there are better places around for the same price. However, I've had some really fun evenings here and for somewhere with a faintly luxurious feel this is a difficult place to beat.

Yelp
being a solo traveller sometimes going for a post dinner drink while appealing can be a bit uncomfortable. you're on your own sitting at the bar with no one to really chat to. so when i decided to grab a quick night cap before heading to bed i was well pleased that the bar at Hotel du Vin was not only very classy but also had some really lovely bartenders that made me feel very welcome. i grabbed a seat at the bar and requested the cocktail list. while looking one of the bartenders chatted to me and i asked what he would recommend from the list. we went through the flavours i liked and finally settled on a champange cocktail that sounded quite appealing. now it was the bartenders first day so to mix my drink up he was helped by one of his co-workers but i can assure you the drink was very tasty and well made. the bar itself exudes the same elegance and class that the whole hotel has. there are leather sofas and high leather chairs for sitting at the bar and soft lighting to enjoy the whole bar feel. the cocktail list is extensive and i wish i'd had time to try more of the offerings! there is also a really good wine list if cocktails aren't your thing. overall a really lovely part of the hotel that is great for a few drinks and some chat before heading off to your room for the night.

Yelp
What an amazing experience, both the room and the food were perfect, the level of service you receive is everything you would expect from a hotel of this class, but the food is spectacular, I've been waiting a long time to taste sea bass that is done well and this was amazing the flavours just went together perfectly, and the same level of food excellence was experienced at breakfast, I would really recommend anyone give this place a try

Yelp
This is one of my favourite places in Birmingham. Hotel du Vin has a lot of nooks and crannies to enjoy a drink from the Bubble Bar, Pub du Vin, and the courtyard. I love the decor in Hotel du Vin. The rooms are lovely; though an upgrade to at least a superior room is definitely worth it. The team here are great if you want to arrange an event. We have hired out private rooms previously, and had good experiences (both in planning, and on the event itself). It's a shame that Hotel du Vin no longer have the Pig Sty with the billiard table. It was a lovely room to hire out. I love dining here in the evenings, but as the tables are quite close to each other, it can get very noisy. The decor is beautiful, and the candlelight in the evenings, do add a romantic touch. Hotel du Vin offer a similar brunch deal that Malmaison do, with a Chef's table loaded with an abundance of goodies to indulge in. This is in addition to the three courses that are served at your table. The cost of this is about £25 which is really reasonable. I have to say that Birmingham's brunch scene seems to be buzzing at the moment with lots of offer around the city. So it won't be long before the competition catches up. The courtyard is a lovely space itself. We have hired this for a drinks reception previously, and found that the sky light, and the decor in this area is really lovely. It allows a lot of natural light in, and the decor is relaxed enough to encourage mingling. The Pub du Vin downstairs is nice. There are often networking, and group events here. I've even accidentally stumbled into wedding reception here. I think it's a nice venue for a city reception.

Yelp
I stayed here many times over the years and adore this place. The rooms are exquisite (i was lucky enough to get the suite on the top floor with its bed big enough for 5 people!) and the wine bar hosts many a celebrity visitor with its excellent stock of vintage wines and champagnes. the only downside is the restaurant which is not terribly good

Yelp
Beautiful hotel close to the centre of Birmingham. The hotel is an old eye hospital and has the most amazing architecture. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is great and the rooms gorgeous. My room had possibly the best shower I've come across in a hotel with big fluffy towels and robes. It's worth ordering breakfast in your room one morning as it arrives on a big tray with warm pastries wrapped in a linen napkin in a basket, little pots of jam and amazing fruit compote, yogurt and musli. Parking isn't easy but the hotel has valet parking (for an extra charge). Make sure you check out the cellar bar - you can even book a tour of the wine cellar!

Yelp
Tried this place last week with friends and have to say was suitably impressed. Customer service was excellent without being 'over attentive' and the surroundings were posh but relaxing at the same time. Only had drinks but will definately try the food next time!

Yelp
Cool - stayed after a night out in local city restaurant. Rooms are amazing. It's the old hospital converted - high ceilings. Breakfast is great and adjacent bar is really hopping at week-ends.

Yelp
went here for afternoon tea and it was delicious! the prices are high, but that's what you would expect for a boutique 4 star hotel in the middle of the city centre. great location, lovely staff, would love to go back!

Yelp
i have been here twice. once on a business meeting and second time with a friend. the food is good although the wine not great unless youre willing to have no buget! service excellent, and staff polite. parking a headache but now a little wiser about that! The only gripe i had was not being there with my wife, but still a pleasant place to escape to.
