Hotel du Vin Brighton

Although I have been to the Hotel du Vin on numerous occasions for drinks, last night was the first time I stayed there. It really is a beautiful hotel. The room was spacious and well equipped. The bathroom was glorious and the bed was so comfy. It was a haven. I would like to thank Roberto, Eddie and Rufus for their professionalism, their kindness and care. It was greatly appreciated.

The staff at this hotel were so friendly and the hotel is ideally located for the beach and city centre, however AVOID ROOM ADUR. Scaffolding is currently erected around the room, which aside from impacting the aesthetic is a landing ground for pigeons and seagulls. We were awoken in the early hours by the birds jumping above our heads; it felt like someone was constantly knocking on the door. A trip that we hoped would provide some respite was actually one with a restless, constantly disturbed sleep! Such a shame. We were also twice charged for drinks we had vouchers for, so worth double checking your bills. It is a lovely hotel, but didn’t quite work out for us on this occasion.

We booked this last minute as we love Brighton. It was just one night, Friday.||From the moment we checked in to the moment we left the staff were so freindly and helpful, not that fake friendship either. You could tell they really did like looking after poeple.||The decor and ambience is also lovely, very relaxing. Just a really lovely feel to the place.||We didn't have dinner, but we did have breakfast and you guys really need to shout out more about being Vegan friendly. It's always a risk for us, but we were so pleasantly suprised with a Vegan full english!||Your dinner menu had vegan options for each course too. Just a little suggestion, a couple of pots of oat milk or soy with the coffee in the room and biscuits that are plant based would be super. ||Special shout out to Eddie one of the waiters, it was like having your very on concierge. Gave us ideas of where to go in the evenings which were excellent.||We're so impressed we are looking to book to go back later this summer for a slightly longer stay.

We had an incredible dinner at Hotel du Vin. The food was delicious — especially the beef bourguignon and sticky toffee pudding — but what made the night truly special was the service.||Owen was calm, attentive, and made us feel like VIPs. Mo brought such positive energy to the room, catching small details before we even noticed. And Ashton was friendly, efficient, and made everything run smoothly behind the scenes.||The team genuinely cared about our experience, and it showed. Can’t recommend this place enough — we’ll definitely be back!

Lovely old hotel tucked away just down a side street in Brighton. Attended friends wedding. Food was AMAZING. Stayed for 2 nights. Rooms were lovely, deep bath, amazing showers very co portable beds but could do with a little bit more attention to detail. Couple stains on top cover on bed, big stains on carpets. Approx £250 per night I'd expect it to be spotless.

I am writing this review to thank Eddie, who was a Hotel Du Vin Barman at our private family party last Saturday. He did a fantastic job looking after everyone behind the bar, and was on hand whenever we needed him. I appreciated your effort Eddie — thank you!

What a beautiful hotel. The room was gorgeous and looked much more expensive than what we paid for. All the staff were lovely, but a particular shout out to Bella for being so accommodating, helping me with our suitcases and even bringing up plates and cutlery when we ordered in takeaway. These little touches made the stay feel extra special. We had a wonderful time here, we just wished we'd stayed for longer!

My sister chose Hotel du Vin in Brighton for her graduation celebration dinner, and it was delightful. The atmosphere was calming and cosy, the food was divine and cooked to perfection. We were looked after by Mo, Ali and Owen all of whom were lovely, warm, charismatic and had great senses of humour. I highly recommend Hotel du Vin should you be seeking an experience of something special.

I'm not usually a fan of chains but Hotel Du Vin is a great example of a boutique chain that oozes luxury and sophistication. There's only 43 rooms including 3 loft suites but we're talking deep, roll top baths, comfy, handsprung beds and incredibly Egyptian cotton bedding. If you can bear to leave your room and venture out, there's lovely courtyard areas and a reception room where you can curl up with a newspaper and glass of wine. Which reminds me, the wine and cocktail list at Hotel Du Vin is second to none. I could drink here every day and I don't think I'd be served anything I didn't love! I've yet to eat in the Bistro but a couple of neighbours have been and all raved about it. There's also spa and massage treatments available and live jazz on the first and third Sunday of the month. They get a bonus point too for owning a beach hut - which you can hire per day or week. What more could you want from a hotel?

We had a private dining room here on a work conference, and the food and drink were excellent. Staff were very friendly and fun. The room was comfortable and spacious, and breakfast was also great. I may have felt differently about it if I was the one footing the bill, but as it stands I can't fault!

Hotel du Vin is Brighton's most expensive and exclusive hotel and restaurant, and this is reflected in every aspect of what this place has to offer. Everything here is to the highest quality, from the amazing restaurant/gastro-pub/bistro to the rooms themselves. Everything here is to a truly high standard, but massively overpriced, losing Hotel du Vin the five star rating it truly deserves. I didn't realise Hotel du Vin was a boutique chain until recently: having only noticed it in Brighton, I assumed it was another of these ridiculously expensive, privately run hotels that dot the Brighton seafront between the two piers. It certainly seems that way from the outside, as the decor and set-up is professional yet quirky: an old fashioned thatch sandwiched between two tall towers. This charming eccentricity extends indoors as well: the rooms are designed in a casually peculiar way, often mixing epochs and colours for some... interesting results! However, under this there are all the signs of a well-run, professional business. The bistro bar/restaurant serves absolutely excellent food, and the wine and cocktail list is impressively long. The spa treatments on offer, while expensive, are apparently very nice, and there's even a rentable beach hut. Nothing has been skimped on here. All of this does come at a price, and it's a rather hefty one at that. Everything is quite simply too expensive: a common Brighton issue, but the prices here are so astronomical that they blow a lot of the town's other price-hikers out of the water. I suppose what is on offer is of the finest quality, but it is all excessively rich. I suppose Hotel du Vin are trying to attract a certain type of clientele... and if you sit in the lobby for long enough, you will see some faces you recognise! While Hotel du Vin is a lovely experience, be it to stay or have a meal or treat yourself to a massage, but make sure you're bringing plenty of cash with you!

I came here a few years ago and the food was superb! So I was really excited about going here for the French market buffet lunch on Sunday. The seafood buffet was beautiful- lots to choose from with different preparations of prawns and potted crab! The bellini I had was also delicious and beautifully presented. However, with the main meals, they did not have any mushroom risotto as stated on menu and the pumpkin risotto they offered instead was really quite bland and the arborio rice even seemed a little under done which was a shame. The creme brulee was ok but huge! I imagine this would have been ideal for a lot of people but I felt it was quantity over quality a little bit. I was keen to return after the last visit but not so much this time.

Nice hotel by the water but not with sea views. Very good staff and nice boutique feel. 15 min walk from the train station

The greatest waste of money you can spend on meal in Brighton. Came here for lunch in the bar on a quiet Monday. My party of three ordered two bottles of sparkling water, the salad that arrived with no dressing on it, the Normandy chicken, a tiny piece of chicken that arrived with no chips and had a side of the most tastless cider sauce. We also asked for coffee with the meal. I myself got the burger which was below average and not very flavoursome and absolutely not worth the £16 price tag. After double checking the menu to see if the chicken came with chips we had to go and look for a new waiter, as ours disappeared and ask for the dressing and chips. The coffee arrived at the same time my empty plate was collected. Overall this meal was nothing short of a massive disappointment. If the venue itself wasn't a lovely, clean and in a great location I would of dropped down to one star but I can't fault the hotels interior or exterior. There was a look of horror when then bill came to just under £65.

After hunting the boardwalk for a chill place to sit in the sun and have fish and chips - and coming up frustrated with super long lines or extremely slow/cash only service, my guy and I walked up to the street level with only one thing on the brain: FOOD NOW.... we found Pub Du Vin sort of on accident while we were hauling down a small street looking for a restaurant. Holy cow I'm SO glad we did. We shared the cobb salad and the haddock & chips --- mmmmmmmm. Plenty enough for two people. The fish and chips were elegantly plated with mushy peas and house made tartar sauce with capers. Best fish and chips I've ever had- hands down. It was light and crunchy, while flavorful and juicy. Skip the boardwalk bs and do it right @ the Pub!

Without my favourite place in Brighton weather its for a special occasion, a casual Saturday lunch a bottle of wine before the cinema, having a drink in the summer or just to have one of the amazing cocktails! This place is PERFECT! If you are visiting Brighton - pop in for a look if nothing else! If you live here - I don't have to tell you how amazing a place it is! SM

I have organised several private functions at this venue and they have always treated us very well. I have also dined here for lunch with the inlaws and greatly enjoyed the food. The service at lunch, however, was disappointing. They got our orders wrong and took a long time to correct it. It is also extremely pricey. I would go back but it would need to be for a special occasion.

Hotel du Vin...pure luxury! This Brighton hotel is part of a fairly small and incredibly luxurious chain of hotels that inhabit the UK's trendiest towns. You will certainly pay for your experience, but if you've got the cash to splash, Hotel to Vin is the place to do it! I had a fairly amusing experience here back in 2003. I had literally just moved into my room on campus at Sussex Univeristy and my parents announced that they were coming to Brighton for their 20th wedding anniversary. Let's just say I was not yet convinced about university life and was certainly not enamoured with my room in halls. Feeling a bit fragile, I met my parents at their hotel (yes you've guessed it, Hotel du Vin). Well, the disparity between my new room and theirs was, frankly, hilarious. They had sweeping views of the beach, two free standing baths in their room, the plushest bed I've ever seen, surround-sound music and TV and a beautifully tiled turquoise bathroom with twin shower heads. I had a cell room and a shower shared between twelve! Subsequently, I spent as much time hanging around my parents as possible that weekend, eating their posh food and soaking up the glorious sumptuousness of their hotel room. I probably cramped their style a little (whoops!), but at least I got to experience this most lavish, lovely hotel! The building is really beautiful, the views are great and the restaarant is do die for- what more could you want form a boutique hotel?

Tucked away but oozing style even by their own standards. Great bar just for drinks, Restaurant is good and competent, with efficient staff. Best to book, very popular at weekends and sunday lunch. Higher end of pricing.

The Hotel du Vin on Ship Street has teamed up with the Scotch Malt Whisky Society to offer an extensive range of the Society's single-cask malts. The initiative is aimed at the serious whisky connoisseur: the idea is to recruit new members, and offer benefits to existing members such as regular Society events, special dram prices and good deals on the plush 'Society Suite' at the hotel. I went along to the launch in the new 'whisky snug' last night and can report that the single cask malts on offer are on a different planet to the run-of-the mill stuff in your supermarket. The alcohol content is 50 per cent making single-cask malt a bit like eyes one may not be enough but three will make you look peculiar. John McShane, the society's ambassador, quoted David Daiches, the Scottish literary historian, critic and writer: "The proper drinking of Scotch whisky is more than indulgence: it is a toast to civilization, a tribute to the continuity of culture, a manifesto of man's determination to use the resources of nature to refresh mind and body and enjoy to the full the senses with which he has been endowed." He also quoted WC Fields: Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake. Sound advice.

The Hotel du Vin chains, as mentioned in my review of the Birmingham one, are an absolutely ingenuous chain of buildings with a certain charming patina, restored, and turned into gorgeous hotels with unique features. The Hotel du Vin in Brighton is a prime and divine example of the dedication that the owners take in finding the perfect building in keeping with the area's charm. The sea green hotel, set just back from the sea front, is full of Brightonesque quirky fun and a comfortable old British seaside feel. Each of the rooms are individually decorated and furnished, and none of them are like the others. The decor of the place is perfectly done, from the old drift wood reception desk, to the long, wide winding staircase. The bar is really something special, with gorgeous dark wood almost in a Latin American style, with dark brown leather furnishings and plenty of potted foliage. As with most Hotel du Vin bars, the staff are impeccably friendly, and always know how to mix a stiff cocktail with no fuss. If you're a beer drinker, there are a few beers on tap, but this is no ale house. Obviously, the specials at a "Wine Hotel" are going to be wines, and they have a gloriously large selection of plummy reds and crisp whites. With several Sommeliers on staff, finding the perfect wine for an early evening treat or to accompany a meal is easy going and fun. The staff at the Hotel du Vin in Brighton are very friendly, and always helpful and polite. It's a bit on the higher end for cost, but if you can afford to stay in Brighton in high summer, you won't be too shocked at the prices. The honeymoon suite is absolutely to die for. The California King-sized bed is the most comfortable I've ever slept in, and the decor is very minimal but spot on (think New England rustic, Martha's Vineyard). The wet room in the bathroom is very spacious -- five people could shower at a time, but hopefully on your honeymoon, you'll just want your better half in that scenario. There are two large, porcelain claw-footed tubs, side by side, with room to store the champagne that comes complimentary with the room. With large, soft fluffy towels and 8 large windows, you could do worse than the Honeymoon Suite. The hotel is a genuinely older building, and though the heating and a/c are in tip top shape, the windows do let in quite a bit of noise, so bring ear plugs if your room is facing the street. Brighton youths are just as noisy as anywhere else!

Romantic, charming, whimsical, and gorgeous. Very aesthetically pleasing. This hotel has it all and at very reasonable rates considering it's star rating. I love staying at the Du Vin Brighton, of the Du Vin's I have seen, I believe it is the best of them. The rooms are of quite a nice size and are very comfy. I really enjoyed the in-house food and the beautiful atmosphere of the restaurant so if you are in Brighton for more than one night I highly recommend that you partake in the romance of it. Well worth the price.

This is definately one of those places where you will pay a slightly higher price than you may elsewhere, but you are going to leave feeling like it is most definately worth it. After eating in the restaurant i could not say enough just how good i found the food, drink and staff to be. All the food we ordered seemed to be good quality fresh ingredients that were cooked perfectly. Th ewine list (like you may expect from the name!) can look daunting, but staff were always available and willing to suggest something for you - and not in a sales person manner, but in a genuine way after asking what you like / dont like about certain wines, and not just the most expensive! I will definately be back when next in the area.

First of all we arrived and we had made a reservation for 7 people so the guy gave us the table and it was a table for 6 and we said we're 7 people not 6 so the guy quickly squished a 7 th place on the table and it was very uncomfortable so we complained and the guy was a arrogant rude shi* and he said we were fine so we complained and gave a formal letter to the general manager and he hasn't replied. Don't go

The thing that has always put me off this place is the packaging of the the hotel and food experience. To me nothing seems less romantic or exciting than booking a meal then a room here, the idea of it reminds me of a bottle of wine I saw once that just said 'Red Wine: Made with Grapes' on it, only that had some comedy value. But then they do do interiors well here which sparkles up the package; a bit of a hard edge gothic sensibility is quite grown up and sexy. On my experience here; fab interior that I can see why some people are excited by, a risotto that was a bit too much like a soup, but a great starter of pork rillette, apple chutney and toasted poilane and not too much of a bad bill at the end of it.

Visited on 17 November for Afternoon Tea with Fizz. Staff were OK. However, we were sat on a sofa(!) for afternoon tea. Sandwiches were dry and crusty, tea was served 15 minutes after cakes came out, scones were dry and burnt! There are SO many better places for a afternoon tea at £25! Will not be going again!

We did not stay in the hotel, but ate in the restaurant as it was recommended by friends for our special night out (anniversary). The restaurant is fantastic (so too is the cocktail bar, for pre-dinner drinks)! The food is divine and I could not fault it. The wine list is very extensive and a wine expert will come to your table to help you find a wine that will suite your taste buds. I did not have a pudding, but ordered the cheese board instead. The selection of cheeses on offer were second to none and again a cheese expert was on hand to talk me through the different cheeses and advise me on which ones would be best for my pallet and the wine we were drinking. The service was impeccable and I swiftly booked another meal there for my mother's birthday. This is a slightly pricey restaurant, but well worth it for that special evening out. Lu xx

Great atmosphere and good food but not cheap.

Lovely ambience and good food. Can be a little too pricey though. Service is good, but can occasionally be a little snotty.

Staying overnight in a hotel on your own for work can be a very dull affair. But at Hotel du Vin in Brighton, they made me forget the fact it was a rainy Monday night. The room was beautiful and the pillows were sublime. It felt like I was sleeping on clouds. The staff could not have been more accommodating and the late night cheese on toast they made me was to die for.

Just had afternoon tea here, and very impressed! Pleasant service, relaxed atmosphere and a very good and tasty range of sandwiches and cakes means we'll definitely be going back!

Friendly intimate hotel with delightful rooms. Great location, just off the Brighton sea front and near the The Lanes shopping area. Good restaurant and, of course, great wine!

I've eaten here a few times on the 2 dine for £30 deal turning it from somewhere pretty expensive into somewhere very cheap. The food isn't quite as good as from the main menu but it is still very good. The only let down is they seem to give you deliberatey crap coffee to make you feel bad for going for the free stuff. It's always very cold and very weak. Other than that this place is nice, even if you just want to go in a have a couple of glasses of wine in the lounge. They give you free olives and everything!

Quite a magical atmosphere in the evenings, low lighting and busy. Friendly and high end feel without being obnoxious or too stuffy.

Update Review a Much Better Experience than Last time. The Sunday Brunch Menu is Fantastic Value and Very Enjoyable at 4 courses for £22.95 one of which is an all you can eat buffet including Oysters, Smoked Salmon, Crab and really good quality charcuterie. Great Service, Attentive, Friendly and Helpful Staff. Very good food and a really enjoyable experience. Very helpful and excellent Sommelier. I highly recommend this if you would like to have a special lunch but you will need to book. Review of Hotel Du Vin Brighton from 16 March 2011 Original Star Rating: 2 I wanted to take a visiting US colleague somewhere nice for lunch and was recommended to try the brasserie at Hotel du Vin by friends who had stayed there often the menu seemed attractive and the telephone booking was handled very professionally. Our greeting was warm and friendly and the room nicely decorated and appointed but the service needed a touch more focus to be considered attentive especially as we were only the second table to arrive and there were at least 4 waiting staff on hand. It soon filled up. My first course, a classic french chicken liver salad lacked finesse and did not boast the finest ingredients it was disappointing. My main a simple steak with hand cut chips was branded from a known organic meat supplier and was cooked as requested but with very little seasoning and flavour that didn't match the price tag. The hand cut chips were ok but not delicious, the Bearnaise sauce was nice. Having to request the bill 3 times from different waiters again showed a lack of attention to service. In all, a lovely opulent, high quality room and ambience but sadly let down by the quality of food and what seemed to be inadequately trained and not very engaged waiting staff. At £90 for lunch for 2 without wine I feel it should have delivered more and would be unlikely to return in a hurry.
