Hotel du Vin Exeter (Exeter, Devon) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A beautiful old Edwardian hospital in Exeter finds new life as a luxury hotel — and should this happen to touch off a mania for converting well-preserved institutions into stylish, contemporary lodgings, we’ll be there to cheer it on. Then again, even if it turns out to be a one-off, we’ll still be there to cheer it on; the Hotel du Vin winningly combines character, style, and a generous helping of good old-fashioned luxury behind its red-brick facade." - Tablet Hotels

I decided to book last minute and compared a number of properties in Exeter which I’d all stayed in before. Obviously the most expensive was Premier Inn because it usually is, so that means I got the Hotel du Vin at a great price. In fact it was less than Holiday Inn express for a vastly better experience, room and breakfast.||Check-in was extremely friendly and very efficient. It was in the same room I’ve had before which is great because even though it is a single room, it’s well laid out and spacious. The shower room is also well designed and decorated.||I ate out for dinner bur had breakfast in the hotel. It was a fantastic spread, excellent service and I had the vegan breakfast with the offer of beans and poached eggs. The banana bread I strongly recommend!||Check out was efficient, the hotel immaculately clean and showing no signs of wear since previous visits. I had a look at the pool area which I’m sure they have improved. Overall excellent - and for £87 including breakfast then that’s actually outstanding value!

We were offered a complimentary breakfast after experiencing poor service in the restaurant a few months ago. We were looked after this time by Lydia who couldn’t do enough for us. The full English breakfast was top notch and cooked perfectly. Thank you Hotel du Vin management for this kind offer to us. We will definitely be back.

Avoid Room 306! We had booked a Deluxe Room, but the room we received did not meet this expectation. For £600 for two nights. The room itself was exceptionally dark with extremely poor lighting, which created a rather gloomy atmosphere. This was exacerbated by the design of the room: with bathroom and wc set separately, making it feel narrow and claustrophobic. Furthermore, the bed felt small for a deluxe category. The most significant issue, however, was a large structural post located directly beside the bed. This post severely obstructed access, making it very awkward and uncomfortable to get in and out of bed and in fact my wife and I walked into on three occasions during the night. I raised these concerns with the staff on duty on Saturday. While I acknowledge that an alternative room was offered, it would have been highly inconvenient for us to pack all of our belongings and relocate, especially as we were only staying for a short time. What I found most disheartening was the apparent disinterest from the staff members I spoke with. I felt that my feedback was not taken seriously and was met with a lack of empathy or concern. This feeling was unfortunately reinforced upon our departure. When we checked out on Sunday, there was no mention of the issues I had raised the previous day—no apology, and no enquiry as to whether the rest of our stay had been more comfortable. It gave the impression that the complaint had not been recorded or had simply been dismissed. Marc The GM contacted us and said we could have moved you (really inconvenient for a 2 night stay) and we can offer you and upgrade next time, but that did little to help the feeling that it was poor value for money at £600 for 2 nights and presidents to come back to the chain

Centrally located with 10 mins to cathedral and 10 to quay. Old hospital turned lodging oozes character with some medical signage still up. Room large enough, tight turns for toilet and shower due to prior hospital so larger folks may have issue with tight space. Parking right at door for 20. Reception polite. Breakfast standard du vin fare which is good. Only recommendation is to contact the Edinburgh location and mirror how they execute porridge...it is a presentation vice a bowl here.

We had booked the evening taster menu with our stay, Jake was an excellent host and was very engaging, his pairings of wine and drinks, with the different sections of the meal were excellent and wonderfully described, his passion and knowledge of the menu and the chosen beverages were obvious. Unfortunately we threw him a bit of a curve ball as one of us doesn’t drink alcohol, we had put it in the online booking notes but this didn’t make it through to that evening’s booking so Jake had to come up with non-alcoholic drinks for one of us that worked with the food - he absolutely nailed it - we both had a very enjoyable meal and evening. the hotel and room were very pleasant and a joy to find rooms where the widows can be opened to get fresh cool air in. Very nice to have a reserved parking space right outside the reception ready for us when we arrived.

Terrible booking service. No flexibility in changing dates without significant extra cost for i) moving booking ii) big increase in room rate as not a member!. Waiting to speak to someone on the telephone over 10 minutes. Usual rubbish automated waiting line of "we are exceptionally busy today" blah blah. Was same line every time I tried to call. So not genuine. Just one person managing phone calls. I had tried direct contact with the Exeter hotel but manager would not rearrange booking just pushed me back to reservations. No personal touch, no customer service. Be sure you want to stay here before committing to any payment as no refunds. Buyer beware.

Spent two days here for a company meeting. The conference facilities were 1st class. The food for meeting was very good with a few choices. Booking in was very quick and easy and also very helpful. The room that i was given was also very good with lots of nice extras, dressing gowns, slippers, coffee machine as well as the normal teas and coffees

The staff were really friendly both in the spa and bistro and the service was great.|I must give a shout out to Jade who worked wonders on the tension in my back. Definitely recommend her!|Thank you Hotel du vin, you will definitely be seeing us again.
