Hotel Du Vin & Bistro York, a Design Boutique Hotel York, United Kingdom

"In the Mount area of York, this Hotel du Vin features elegant boutique rooms and a bistro-style restaurant. York’s city centre is only 0.5 miles from this 19th-century, Grade II listed building. With a flat-screen TV, DVD player, Egyptian linen and a minibar, each room at Hotel Du Vin & Bistro York is also uniquely styled. Sleek private bathrooms boast power showers, and all rooms have air conditioning. The Bistro restaurant serves a fine menu of modern European cuisine, made using local cheeses, seafood and meat from a family farm. The stylish bar has an extensive list of cocktails and fine wines. York Train Station is within half a mile, whilst stunning York Minster is 1 mile away. The Jorvik Viking Centre is 15 minutes’ walk, passing many restaurants and bars on the way." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

What a fabulous hotel! Rooms were to a high standard. We were on the ground floor in a separate building from reception. Very comfortable spacious beds. Tea/coffee facilities. Lovely prestine bathroom & power shower. Good quality towels. The staff were so friendly & informative, we could tell they were happy working there. Wonderful ambience, attention to detail and willingness to make our stay wonderful. Special shout out to Faye & Abbie, wonderful receptionists who were very professional, informative & friendly. We intend to return in 2026! A pleasant 15 min walk to the centre and lots to see & do. A beautiful historic City ❤️

Absolutely fabulous. Clean, comfortable, with a distinct French feel. The food is to a very high standard and delicious. The bar well stocked, although only sells bottled beer. Every single member of staff were really friendly and attentive with a special mention to Ben who guided us through the menu in the Bistro. Be aware, though, the hotel is cashless.

What a beautiful Hotel. Just outside the Micklegate stone gate entrance to the City, a 5mins walk. It’s got parking, abate it can be busy but there’s only around 40 rooms so is fine. £15 per day. |Heading to reception and checking in we opted for, as we were only staying two nights, for the non-room service…..so no bedding change or towels….but there were plenty in the room…..but they refreshed the tea/coffee…..the value being donated to their local charity. A nice touch. |A lovely room, high ceilings, lovely decor and the bathroom had an amazing walk in shower. |We didn’t make full use of the Hotel facilities and evening restaurant as we were meeting friends in town both nights, after a spot of Xmas Market browsing, for dinner. However both mornings the Full English and eggs Benedict etc, freshly served were lovely. The coffee and toast machine….yer once through and it was perfect…..were good. |All the Staff were amazing friendly and we spend sometime just chatting, a lovely atmosphere. |Leaving on the Saturday they were setting up for a Christmas Wreath making event, looked fun. |Can definitely recommend this Hotel for those liking that Homely, friendly, personal touch close to the City Centre and indeed Railway Station.

The Hotel DuVin is in a nice location with easy access to local transport. The hotel interior is lovingly decorated with a warm welcoming reception staff.|As we were celebrating a special occasion we had picked the Hotel Du Vin with its many good reviews as a treat. |We had pre-booked a room and 2 course dinner offer and was looking forward to our evening meal. The A la Carte was presented and as we were on the course meal I asked what meals were part of the deals. Informed we could have a starter and main or main and dessert. We opted for the starter and main and the food was excellent. |The choice of wine we wanted was not available but the New Zealand Pinot Noir we ordered was very good. Unfortunately when the final bill was presented every item we had ordered had a supplement so the deal is you prepay for a 2 course meal but they just take off the prepaid amount from your bill something that is not mentioned when you book the offer or are actually ordering the meal. This of course lowers your opinion about the lovely meal you have eaten.|On returning to our room in the annexe area which was on the lower floor we were kept awake by a loud humming noise. Turned Air conditioning off, checked the bathroom extraction fan was not staying on and just blamed the room aboves air-conditioning unit.|The very noisy culprit was the Annexe large heat pump/air conditioning system directly outside our window. Therefore I would recommend this hotel but do not pre-book a 2 course meal deal or a ground floor bedroom. Plus arrived early and only a few parking spaces left.

My partner and I and our two dogs stayed in a deluxe room from 31 October to 3 November 2025. The room was beautifully appointed, comfortable and warm. The staff were friendly, cheerful and incredibly kind. Nothing was too much trouble. Faye in particular was amazing and kept an ear out for our dogs whenever we went out for a few hours. She even came to meet them in our room in case she needed to check on them.||The building and gardens are fabulous, there’s plenty of parking and they are a short walk from some pretty cool places. York city centre is a comfortable 20-25 minute stroll. ||Can’t wait to return and would recommend 100%

The room was gorgeous and the hotel is beautiful. The negative was we had a faulty air conditioning unit running under our window all night which disrupted sleep, disappointingly the young girl on reception made me feel that it was just us and tried to tell us there was nothing there even though the night staff knew straight away what it was when I rang down to see if they could do anything at 1am. We were refunded £15 car park but I did walk away feeling a little dismissed and disappointed.

What a lovely stay we had. The room was pleasant, well appointed and clean. Hotel has a warm inviting feeling. The staff though.... every interaction was pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable. We've never stayed anywhere where every single member of staff was brilliant before! Jasmine on the bar, yansi and Nicole in the bistro, the reception staff... everyone we spoke to were a credit to this hotel. We didn't speak to the chef, but whoever they are, they are talented and we had a fabulous meal in the bistro. My only regret is not being able to finish the Tarte Fine. Wow. Fabulous stay, don't hesitate to book here, its worth every penny.

The staff at reception, the bar and at breakfast were fantastic. So friendly and clearly hard-working. We really enjoyed our night away in York in the Cristal Suite. Hopeful suggestions for improvement would be; locally sourced quality biscuits (the ones on the tray were crumbled and broken and nothing special), the thermostat for the radiator in the Cristal Suite wasn’t working correctly. The hotel staff had to put it to 30 degrees to get it to kick in after we confessed we couldn’t get it working. The room was really quiet which we loved and the bed was really comfortable. Fresh milk in the mini bar would be another improvement versus the current UHT portions. Two loofahs would be nice too rather than the current one! Look forward to staying again.

Yelp
I've just returned to the wet and wild delights of Manchester from a night away in York at the Hotel Du Vin with my dear mama. Now, we stayed on the Winter offer as, naturally, rooms in this hotel chain can rack up an almighty bill. This gave us our room and a two course dinner from the prixe fix menu, something which we had taken up before in the Leeds Malmaison and thoroughly enjoyed. We arrived early in the hope of dropping our bags off before hitting the sales and the staff were happy to oblige once they reached the reception desk. The decor of the Hotel Du Vin is in keeping with the others in the chain; dark but cozy and comforting. Behind the reception desk is a wall of clocks - of course, you might think to yourself, showing times of other countries across the world. No no good Yelpers, these clocks simply show you the times of other counties. Not quite as exciting seeing as we're all in the same time zone! The hotel isn't very far from the centre so we walked into the centre of York and back again quite comfortably, marveling at the amount of flooding near the centre, and taking a walk on the famous wall. Returning to the hotel in the evening, we were shown to our room and left to our own devices. The room was fine, with lovely sleigh beds, and the bathroom was large and heated. We were both looking forward to dinner but this is where The Hotel Du Vin loses some stars from me I'm afraid; service was shaky from the get go as, after we were given the prixe fix menu and main menu, we were told we needed yet another menu for our offer. However, this menu was exactly the same, so seemed a bit pointless and as if the staff hadn't quite realised or paid attention. We ordered a bottle of chardonnay but were given sauvigon, the reason given was a conflict with suppliers and only explained when prompted, which lacked integrity and left us feeling a bit deflated. My belly pork was lovely and soft, with crispy crackling, delicious potato, and black pudding, but followed with a fairly lacklustre chocolate & chilli cheesecake. Mum's cod wasn't my cuppa due to my dislike of fish, but her apricot frangipane was stolen and devoured in no time. On check out the wine issue arose again when our bill didn't add up. This was eventually resolved but it did feel as if we were paying for someone elses mistake with our time - the shops were calling! I would consider staying here again on an offer but York does have other hotels. Ho hum.

Yelp
Couldn't fault the service at all here - nor the food. Paid £185 for a dinner, bed and breakfast deal, and thought it was an absolute steal. Our room was gorgeous, and we enjoyed our meal thoroughly. I still can't believe the value for money.

Yelp
Stayed here for a couple of days in December. There were a number of very positive aspects that make this place stand out but a couple of wee niggles that took the shine off for me. Firstly the price for a room with breakfast does not come cheap at around £240. Even with a Sunday stay deal including dinner, by the time you' paid for wine etc. a two night stay is going to set you back just shy of £500. The hotel is within easy walking distance of York centre so can't fault the location. The staff are all very friendly and you do feel a bit special as you come and go. Breakfasts are great with the best buffet I've had in a long time and an amazing hot cooked choice. Rare to find a fine dining experience at breakfast in a hotel like this one. The room was quite spacious, with comfortable bed and super shower. However, for the cost I was expecting something just a little bit more special. The power failed in the room and when I called to report it (and the fact that the heating also failed) a member of staff arrived with a small portable heater which was pretty noisy. It must be a common fault as she knew where to reset the trip in a ceiling panel immediately. The other thing that was annoying was that on top of the high room costs they charge per night for parking. I should point out that there were only a few cars-I presume people who know the area found free off-road parking elsewhere. Just seemed a bit much. In summary I've stayed in nicer cheaper hotels, but this was far from an awful experience. The dining was lovely, staff very nice but maybe I just expect something more. I stayed in a best western round the corner the night before I arrived here and honestly can't say the difference in experience was worth the additional £170 per night.

Yelp
This hotel is sold as a luxury hotel, howeverthe service does not back this up at all it is very standard. That aside the hotel is lovely and a great place to stay. The rooms are well decorated and the beds very comfortable and cosy. the shower is fantastic with monsoon rain shower heads. Also the bar and resturant are great and if you are awat for work then you will meet some really nice people in this hotel. As i said my one complaint is that the service doesnt quite match up to the actual facilities as these are great.

Yelp
We sort of chose this restaurant by default as a dinner deal was offered to us as part of our room. We took it, paid for it and then I thought I should check out the reviews Well they weren't very good so I didn't have very high expectations. Our first impression of the bistro was pretty spectacular. On our way there we walked past an amazing tasting room and the beautiful bar surrounded by comfy couches. Then it was on to the bistro which also impressed. The service which I expected to be dismal based on the reviews I read was spot on and we were immediately greeted by the lovely host. I started with some scallops which were excellent. My fiancee had caramelized pear with blue cheese which he has just described to me as poor due to the small portion and the fact that 'none of the ingredients tasted good together, only on their own' (very precise!). My main was haddock with a hollandaise sauce, while F had venison. We had sides of a tomato salad and some unfortunate broccoli which had been cooked with hollandaise sauce on it making the hollandaise dry and crumbly. I am not sure how that made the menu or got out of the kitchen. Salty is the best word to describe this meal. I just feel that if the chef had layed off the salt just a bit it would have been a meal to remember. It was almost crunchy in the tomato salad. It was such a shame. The portions were also smallish, especially the deserts which were miniature.

Yelp
I stay here whenever in York. The hotel is comfortable with a very nice and helpful staff. It offers an excellent breakfast, drinks lounge and grounds. I travel extensively and stay in many hotels. I always look forward to returning to this charming hotel.

Yelp
Spent a Sunday night here to celebrate our anniversary even though we live in York it was great to get away. The room was adequate and decorated to the scheme of things for HDV. Drinks are above average price at the bar and they make you feel cheap if you dont have a double, Restaurant staff were very young and didnt know one end of their elbow from the other. Could be a great place with good management.

Yelp
We weren't guests at the hotel, but very much enjoyed the dining experience. There's a nice ambiance and the service and food were both good. As a group of Americans, we were pleased that the waitress found a way to give us take-away bags, though it is definitely not the norm in England. It's a short walk outside the wall, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone going to York.
