How I Travel: Julianna Margulies Knows the Best Osteria in Florence

"There's a fabulous hotel in Paris that, if I wasn't going for press or for a movie studio or whatever, I used to stay in—it's called Hôtel Duc Saint-Simon, which is on the Left Bank in the Saint-Germain district. It's small. You don't go there for a grand room. The rooms are not cheap-cheap, but they're not crazy like the Bristol and the Plaza Athénée and all the fancy hotels. They are typically done in these beautiful floral fabrics. It is the real French feeling, and it's where all the old movie stars used to go."

A charming, classic hotel tucked away on a quiet street, yet conveniently connected by several bus lines. Standard rooms are on the smaller side, as one might expect in the heart of Paris. The staff are exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to help us find a dry cleaner after a minor mishap. Breakfast is served across two beautiful vaulted cellars—make sure to visit both, or you’ll miss half the buffet. Fresh, well-brewed coffee is served directly at your table.

Ideally located in the trendy Saint-Germain district, it offers ultimate comfort and high quality services in a beautiful eighteen century townhouse. Embodying the charm of old Europe, antique furniture, original artworks adorn the elegant rooms and suites. A lovely terrace invites the hotel guests to enjoy a cup of tea or a cocktail after a day of shopping. The staff is incredibly courteous and caring. A stay at this hotel is bound to be one of one's best Parisian memories;

Charming, well run boutique hotel in St. Germaine. Comfortable rooms, unique cellar breakfast room/cocktail space. Staff is professional and welcoming. Recommended without reservation.

TL;DR: The property itself is lovely, but at this price point I expect the desk to at least try to help - even if the answer is ultimately “no,” a more guest-focused explanation would have gone a long way.||We enjoyed the setting and overall charm. I’d booked a non-refundable rate and accepted I’d forfeit the night I couldn’t use; my feedback is about how my request to move one prepaid night to a later date was handled. I wasn’t asking for a full rebooking - even a small gesture (credit toward the new date, a breakfast voucher, or a reasonable change fee) would have shown goodwill. Instead, I was told to rebook via Booking.com with no discussion of alternatives or explanation of constraints. We were prepared to vacate early to help housekeeping, but staff showed no interest.||Minor notes that added friction: a charge for in-room peanuts with no visible pricing, and unclear parking advice—“marked” spots turned out to be regular street parking and were full when we returned briefly to check out. Tips for future guests: confirm minibar pricing in advance and ask the desk to clarify parking options nearby.

The hotel is ideal, it’s a couple of mins walk to a metro station with plenty of nice restaurants nearby and within walking distance of a couple of the main attractions. The rooms are clean tidy and the bed is very comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. I can’t fault the hotel and will be happy to return on our next Paris trip.

Lovely property; service felt rigid, not guest-focused UPD: management answer only confirms my point: customer service is, unfortunately, nowhere close to 4 stars. Original review below: I booked a non-refundable rate and accepted I’d forfeit the night I couldn’t use. My feedback is about how my request to move one prepaid night to a later date was handled. I wasn’t asking for a straight rebooking - even a small gesture (credit toward the new date, a breakfast/F&B voucher, or a reasonable change fee) would have shown goodwill. Instead, I was told to rebook via Booking.com with no discussion of alternatives or explanation of constraints. We were prepared to vacate early to help housekeeping, but staff showed no interest. Minor notes: an unlabeled charge for in-room peanuts and unclear advice about “marked” parking (it’s regular street parking and was full). Charming place, rigid service. 2/5

We were in Paris for a long weekend, to watch France v Scotland rugby. We had spent some time investigating hotels/locations to stay in, and Hotel Duc de St Simon was the one we chose. We were not disappointed!||It is beautiful. The staff are wonderful, welcoming and very patient when it came to my schoolboy French. The common areas are luxurious and we really felt that we were in Paris. ||The room was so cosy and well appointed. The furnishings in excellent condition. We had breakfast in the room one morning and it was served prompt on a beautiful silver tray but on other mornings walked a short distance to a cafe on the Rue du Bac, which we also highly recommend.||The hotel's location was excellent for us. Just a 10 minute walk up to the river. Rue St Germain will take you towards the Latin Quarter. Paris is such a beautiful city; we will certainly return and when we do we will book with Hotel Duc de St Simon again!

Small but very nice rooms . A wonderful basement bar where they serve breakfast . Great location . We chose one of the rooms with a terrace . Very nice and gave us some room outside confines of the small bedroom

Yelp
Absolutely an amazing gem - a traditional hotel almost in the style of Grand Hotel Bupadest with such meticulous attention to detail and comfort! Amazing staff, amazing quality of everything - from rooms traditionally decorated with wall paper and velvet curtains to the breakfast room in a real cellar! Centrally located hidden yet within 3 minute walk to Bon Marche, 10 minute walk to Louvre and D'Orsay, without all tourist hustle and bustle and perfectly situated for either business, family or leisure! Can't wait to visit again

Yelp
Hotel Duc De St-Simon was an absolute nightmare!!! We travel throughout Europe often, including Paris, and the management & conditions of this hotel made our stay an unbearable catastrophe!!! 1. The very limited breakfast was worthless, the sausage was over cooked and we waited forever to receive coffee and didn't even receive any service on our final day. 2. We paid extra for the terrace, only to have it unusable due to the dirt and the cigarette smoke that was constantly coming from directly below in the hotel lobby. 3. The entire room smelled like cigarette smoke the entire time, as the smoke seeped through the terrace doors. Upon asking if the room could be changed due to smoke choking us throughout the night, the hotel's reply was "No, this is normal!" 4. The shower's extremely small door forced the water to be sprayed everywhere and get everything wet. 5. The final act of absolute ignorance came upon checkout. The manager came out and said we left a mark on the small bed throw, which was old and faded from being used for a very long time. At first he attempted to charge us $700 Euro for this worn out throw, after a long period of extremely frustrating arguing, we were forced to settle for $500, and almost missed getting to the airport. DO NOT follow our mistake by staying at this hotel!!! There are so many other locations, and we would hate for you to experience the horrific stay that this hotel put us through!!!

Yelp
Mais oui! Charming small left bank hotel on quiet street close to the bustle of Boulevard St Germain. Pleasant staff, immaculately clean, comfortable and quintessentially French. If you're exhausted & bored by the newer minimalist hotels and want to actually feel like you're staying in Paris, this is your place. The nicest option in this price range.
