My wife and I were celebrating our honeymoon with a 12 day cruise that started in Barcelona and so we needed to find a hotel that was close to the Port of Barcelona. A quick search on Expedia turned up the Hotel Duquesa de Cardona. It was fairly highly rated, the photos looked lovely, and they had a great deal on. Since it was our honeymoon we figured we might as well splurge a little. Our flight arrived early in the morning and we got to the hotel around 11 am, a few hours before check-in. Unfortunately our room wasn't ready (which was to be expected) but the hotel staff were happy to take our bags into storage. They also offered us a glass of complimentary Cava (sparkling wine), and despite it being early in the day we're never one to pass up anything free! The staff were all very friendly (especially the baggage porter who called us a cab the next morning and made sure we got to the port) and their english was very good. We had some time to kill and thankfully the hotel's location couldn't be better. Just a short walk from the waterfront and Las Ramblas, with plenty of restaurants nearby.
After killing time we returned and the porter brought all our bags up to our room for us, and they offered us more free Cava. The room itself was nice enough, but smaller than expected. It also was on the first floor, with no view, and because it faced the lobby was a little noisy at night, which wasn't exactly ideal for sleeping through the night to get over jet-lag.
We also enjoyed their beautiful rooftop terrace with a lovely view, and a delicious restaurant (albeit a slightly pricey one). That evening we enjoyed cocktails, and split some tapas and a chicken caesar salad and all of it was excellent.
Breakfast wasn't included and to be honest probably wasn't worth the price we paid, but the food was all fresh and there were plenty of options.
All in all a very nice experience and perfect for our needs, though I wouldn't ever pay full price for a room. If you can get a deal, go for it, otherwise you might want to opt for a hotel where you'll get more bang for your buck.
