We ended up staying here for 2 nights after the Hotel Burfell had some type of undisclosed problem and moved our reservation to here. It really does feel like a nursing home, but it's fine. Staff are very friendly. Breakfast was great with plenty of options. They even have a very nice gym which is a super rare in Iceland hotels. The spot is beautiful and you could probably easily see the nothern lights if it's clear. So why the lower rating? It's completely loaded with tour and school groups. The second night, our room was right in the middle of wild teenagers, running through the halls, knocking on our door and crashing around. They did quiet down by 2300 for quiet hours, but were up crashing around at 0600 again. Then a large tour bus pulled up just before midnight, with it's engine running, headlights shinning in the room, and people talking loudly. For that reason alone I wouldn't recommend staying here. There was 2 different school groups staying here in 2 days.

The hotel itself is similar to a Days Inn in America. For the most part it's very basic with few amenities. The beds were very comfortable and the mattresses did look new. Dinner was good with several side options and the salmon was amazing. Breakfast had some great tasting fresh fruit. The big positive about this location is it's a perfect stop over on the way from glacier lagoon back to the west coast. Definitely a 1 night stay only. Can't comment on the viewability for the Northern lights as we were there during a Blizzard. However, if that's your goal request an even numbered room facing the parking lot. The back side is too close to the mountain to see the sky and there's 2 brightly lit buildings above the back side causing too much light pollution.

Lots of power outlets for your devices, including a couple USB. Spacious room and bathroom. Note: we stayed in the newly-built building - older rooms could be different. Breakfast and dinner buffet, decent. If you have a walking issue, try to get a room close to the dining hall. There are elevators, but it still took us about 7 minutes walk over to dinner. Fortunately you can do that completely through inside corridors, if it's cold or wet outside. The shower is a step less walk-in. One person can shower while the other uses the toilet, if you don't mind clear glass. No vent fan in bathroom.

Pleasant, Simple, Abundant Breakfast.|Part of a group tour. The room was neat and comfortable. The.hallway carpeting in some places was torn and stained. There are no handrails on some stairs and that set up a risk for an older traveler like me. Lighting is good. Heating was excessive with no evident control except to open the window and welcome wintry winds.

This was a clean, perfectly fine, large hotel with no real character, that is mostly geared to large bus groups. It does have fantastic views. It was expensive for what it provided and I would go with a guest house next time in this area. The generous standard dinner buffet was a shocking $7,500 isk / $60 us dollars pp for a standard buffet with meat and fish (sliced beef & salmon). I would definitely plan to eat elsewhere. We had great meals throughout Iceland for less than this every night. It was nice that there was a bar and the bartender was actually fantastic.

I honestly was expecting a 2 star hotel when I looked it up . However from the second of our arrival I was proven wrong. This hotel and staff ran like a well oiled machine. They had our bags in our room mins after arrival , took the extra step to left them onto the bench for us to unpack. The room was large and clean, the shower was hot there were plenty of outlets and USB chargers. The dinners were buffet style and had plenty of options for everyone. Two bits of advice : bring washcloths with you( there aren’t any supplied in room) and crack open the window it gets very warm in there. I would definitely recommend staying here , it’s obvious this was not originally a hotel and was remodeled into one so outward appearance makes you think it’s sub par but it’s actually quite nice .

Initially given the wrong room, general smell and vibe of a care home, bland breakfast, black mould in the bathroom, hairs on the bedding. Would recommend avoiding. Only redeeming thing is that staff were very nice
