Esthéréa (Amsterdam, North Holland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"“Minimalism? I don’t know her.” That’s the Esthéréa way, an attitude to interior design that knows more color means more fun and asks, “Why have one bold print when you could have two?” Done with a less skilled eye, the rooms here could be a garish mess, but in the hands of some adept designers, it’s a place of vibrant beauty. From the plush fabrics to the coordinated color schemes, from the indoor foliage to the canal views, Esthéréa represents pure joy for the senses." - Tablet Hotels

We have just returned from a two night stay at Hotel Estherea and I cannot tell you how much we loved it. |We travelled as two couples and both rooms were upgraded - one to a suite and one to a jacuzzi room. Both rooms were absolutely stunning; comfortable beds, beautiful furnishings and spotlessly clean. |There are lovely touches all over the hotel with a unique offer of free hot drinks, flavoured water, cakes and biscuits always available in the hotel lobby. |The breakfast is served in the bar and there is a lovely selection of food with a hot selection of eggs, bacon, sausages and toast along with the usual continental selection if meats, cheeses, cereal, fruit, croissants, cakes and freshly squeezed orange juice. Be sure to book your table 24 hours in advance as it does get busy, but as they limit to sittings, it’s not uncomfortable. |The hotel is situated perfectly for all of the tourist spots, with the a 10 minute walk to Anne Franks house and a 15 minute walk in the other direction to Centraal Station. |Look out for the hotel cats, the boy is shy but the girl loves to be stroked! |Honestly, this hotel is unique and special and we will definitely be returning. |Thank you to all of the lovely staff who were polite, professional and friendly throughout our stay.

Charm factor and great location! Terrific common areas. Free coffee and sweets 24/7. Breakfast a zoo as space small and you need a time to go--all self-service. Cruise ship groups in such a small hotel somewhat ruins the ambiance. Many people took the stairs when elevators (two) were slow due to no service elevator for staff cleaning rooms. Front desk people on check in were either new or untrained. No consierge. Pack your patience!

This place can only be described as a jewel, the rich decor is simply sublime, we had two rooms, both the same standard but vastly different in style, the designs were just beautiful. Quality bathroom products and quite frankly the nicest slippers ever seen in a hotel! The staff were super friendly as were the chaps showing us to our rooms. The refreshment lounge was an excellent touch. The location was magnificent, calm and quiet but only steps from all the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. Absolutely magnificent!

This is a beautiful hotel with a great location. The staff are warm and helpful. Complimentary warm and cold drinks and sweet table. The decor in the hotel lobby and lounge as well as the rooms is absolutely stunning. If you are coming to Amsterdam I highly recommend this hotel.

Google
Absolutely beautiful place to stay, rooms are just gorgeous. We stayed 5 nights and had a suite, and everyday they have delicious cake and biscuits for guests along with a hot drinks station all help yourselves. Its right on canal with restaurants and cafes all close by. Highly recommend and will definitely book again. The place is decorated in an old style eclectic way with every corner filled with different stories to tell.

This is one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. It has a lot of character, with beautiful rooms, a great in-house bar, a good gym for a boutique hotel, and an incredible location in the heart of Amsterdam but far enough away from the main tourist areas that you feel like you are in a neighborhood. It is a 5 minute walk to the Dam and the nearby shopping, a 10 minute walk to the old town, and a 15-20 minute walk to the Museum District. But really, go any direction out of the hotel and you will find something interesting. The neighborhood restaurants were all excellent. Two warnings: 1) there is a cat that wanders the main floor of the hotel. I enjoyed it but a warning if you are severely allergic. 2) It is Amsterdam, and while there is officially no smoking, some of the guests do not respect the rules. I could clearly smell smoke in the hall out of my room. That said, crack the window and it won't be bad. One comment for the hotel: I like the shower, but they should put a 3 or 4 inch splash guard on the bottom of the door because the whole corner of the bathroom gets wet if someone takes a shower.

Google
The hotel location is the best you can ever get in Amsterdam. The reception staff and super nice and super friendly. The hotel lobby and interiors are exceptionally beautiful and have an old world charm. There is free tea/coffee/biscuits 24 hours available at the lobby bar. The rooms beautifully decorated but are small and the ceiling height is also low. If you have a canal view room, then you are good to go because the windows make the room bearable. All in all, this is a beautiful, comfortable and amazing property with great staff.

Google
Exquisite in every way! Everything was amazing! The hotel itself is absolutely lovely! Everything has been carefully chosen to create an atmosphere of delight and wonder. The blending of the colors, the textures and fabrics; it was all exquisite. Rooms and bed were excellent. The food was amazing! The staff were so kind and helpful. The location was perfect. The only negative was that we didn't plan to stay longer. Cannot wait to go back again!

Yelp
I wanted to love this place. It's beautiful, staff was lovely. But I got massacred by bed bugs in my room (517).

Yelp
I like hotels that feel like home. The Hotel Estherea, like my favorite place to stay in New York the Bowery, has a comfortable air to it. They pay attention to the details. It's small and quaint, cozy even. The communal spaces are elegantly done. It doesn't have that new look everyone is doing. It has layers and color and fancy details. There is candy and cats. We had a noise complaint but it was made right by compensation. Had it not been for that I'd say this boutique hotel is a 5 star experience for the price. I'd suggest too a full length mirror in the rooms. Our didn't have one but all rooms at Estherea are different.

Yelp
Good lord... what a treasure of hotel. The folks who work here are incredibly helpful, the room are beautiful and Maria's Bar is fantastic. This hotel delivers on all fronts. I need to mention that Maria's Bar is fantastic. The bartender put a strawberry twist on my daiquiri and it changed daiquiris for me for life. We will absolutely be staying here again.

Yelp
Lovely hotel. Tiny rooms. Rock hard beds. Good location. Expensive breakfasts. Handsome house cat.

Yelp
Where do I even begin?! This hotel is breathtaking. The overall aesthetic is exceptional. I enjoyed looking at all the different chandeliers particularly, and all of the public areas felt extremely luxurious and comfortable. As far as public areas go, my favourite was a relaxed lounge area, with a modern wood burning stove and a selection of drinks and snacks. By snacks I mean beautiful chocolates and an array of wee fancy cakes. The drinks consisted of both plain and flavored waters, loose leaf teas in an assortment of flavors and compositions, and a really excellent coffee machine that also made delicious hot chocolate. It was bitterly cold when we were in Amsterdam, so it was lovely to come back and have a hot drink to relax with in our room. There were also glass dishes of hard candy in the more formal lounge, conference room, and in our room. A nice additional touch. I say room, but it was actually a suite. We had reserved a regular room and by some good fortune, they kindly decided to upgrade us to one of the two suites in the hotel. I have never stayed in a room as beautiful or comfortable. Wood paneling, lush furnishings, gorgeous wallpaper, a jacuzzi bath (that fit myself, my husband AND the baby ) and the mirror on the bathroom even turned into a tv. The outer sitting room had a curtained glass wall, that looked onto a mini atrium filled with plants and a pond. Part of the ceiling of this room was a skylight, so it was a very serene place to relax, and our son enjoyed looking at the plants and water. By my advanced request, they had set up a crib for us, and during the check in process they even gave our two year old a stuffed animal. Despite it not seeming like a place that people brought small children very often, they staff were very kind to, and tolerant of, our loud two year old. Even letting him behind the check on desk to see the hotel cats. They didn't have a high chair for him at breakfast, but they hunted high and low for one, so we appreciated the effort even though it was a tad inconvenient. The buffet breakfast was decent, had a good section of options, and the room service was also very good (as well as being reasonable by Amsterdam prices). We took advantage of it more than once. Another amazing bonus was that we had the free use of a cellphone that we could make international calls on, and use for the internet. This gave us access to google maps wherever we went, which was extremely helpful in a new city. The location of Hotel Estherea is wonderful, right on a beautiful canal and in the middle of the 'nine little streets'. It's within walking distance of anything touristy you'd want to see, and has a number of restaurants and shops nearby. We found the proximity to a supermarket very helpful for getting our toddler snacks, etc. I would absolutely go back to this hotel, though I'm a bit spoiled now after experiencing the suite life! Great staff, great accommodations, great location. Can't really ask for more than that!

Yelp
Charming and unique hotel in a perfect location, not far from all the "action" yet also quiet enough to feel like you've gotten away from it all. Admittedly our stay began on a bit of an off note--arriving with a group of 25 or so, our particular room was one of two not yet ready (and others had a mix-up where they were given a king instead of two doubles, and had to switch around with another guest to get what they needed.) Our tour organizer was having some rather heated words with the desk staff to get it all sorted out. We came back a couple hours later, was told our room was ready and our luggage up there--but it wasn't. I called down for our luggage, waited, and after twenty minutes or so had to go back down to the desk to see our luggage still sitting there in the back office while staff was sitting around chatting. With a meeting I had to get ready for in less than a half hour, that was a bit aggravating. But after those first day hassles every thing else went smoothly. Our room was quite charming, not on the canal but with a little balcony perfect for people-watching. I appreciated the spacious bathroom with a whirlpool tub and a separate shower stall, and the blue and white decor of the room really was lovely. The entire hotel is done up in outrageous style with new things to discover in every corner and display. Coffee, water, and treats were available throughout the day to drink or nibble on, and the breakfast buffet was very well stocked and varied, too. Would I come back to stay here again? Absolutely! We were able to walk to pretty much everything we wanted to see or do and I loved the quiet charm of it all. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a unique experience in the city.

Yelp
Decent price, very clean and cozy quaint rooms, excellent library, lounge and lobby, excellent little bar, free oliy-ball snacks with coffee all day long whenever you want, very good breakfast buffet, really just an excellent boutique hotel. Takes up three houses on the Singel canal, great location going further into or out of the canal rings. Walkable to everything, but also has bikes and a scooter to rent. Only drawbacks were water pressure and window treatments.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful small boutique style Hotel. Lavishly and beautifully decorated with several different rooms on the main floor lobby area to relax in. Right on the Singel canal and convenient to everything. Friendly staff, decent restaurant with a good breakfast and small bar attached. Individually designed rooms with a flair. Pleasant modern bathrooms. Loved the 24-hour free hot and cold beverages and assortment of chocolates and fresh baked goods for guests' enjoyment. Certainly not the cheapest option but we felt it was worth the money. We stayed for eight nights and would be happy to stay there again on our return to Amsterdam.

Yelp
Sitting on the Singel Canal, this hotel is close to all the main sites but still quiet compared to many other areas on the canals. It's about a ten minute walk to the Red Light District, Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum/Van Gogh Museums (also the IAMSTERDAM sign - go early or at sunset because no one is there). Check in was a breeze and our porter took us to our room. We were fortunate to have a garden facing room (that way you don't hear the noise from the people partying on the canal). Our room was newly redone and was immaculate and well appointed. The hotel also provides a smartphone that gives you unlimited international calls and data. So you can take this phone and use Google Maps, make calls, surf the web to find places. It was great. The hotel provided free access to coffee/tea with terrific industrial coffee machines. The sitting area on the lobby was spacious and comfortable. And lastly, the rooms had excellent air conditioning. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely come back. Book directly with the hotel to get a few extra perks rather than booking with another site.

Yelp
Ahhh! First thing in mind for me! The interior was divine! I felt so welcomed staying here. The tea and coffee service was adorable. The bed so comfortable and room divinely designed. Amenities were amazing as they offered a free cell to use while in Holland. This allowed me to forego any international charges on my own cell. And wait did I mention it was free to call within Europe and to the USA? The room I was in had a great view of the canal and the hotel was a close walk to everything. The food was perfect each morning a great buffet of croissants, meats, eggs and fruit. Delicious juices, coffees and teas. Loved my stay!

Yelp
We had a nice 3-night stay. The trip started inauspiciously, with the unhelpful jackholes from the airport and train stations regarding directions towards here. In the end, the hotel recommendation of taking the train to Amsterdam Centraal then walking 15-20 minutes, even dragging two 45lb luggages at 10:30pm, was probably the easiest as well as the cheapest way to get here. It is a charming boutique hotel, with complimentary coffee and water downstairs at all times. It is very centrally located for a lot of attractions, including various museums (Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank), landmarks (National Monument, red-light district), and not to mention the plethora of food choices. We walked everywhere once we settled in, and I bought cheap and delicious breakfast from the bakery Egstorf right around the corner on the happening street Spuistraat every morning. the only thing I had to remotely worry about were the speeding bicycles, which were everywhere in the city. The rooms were basic but nice. Even with the upgrade to a "family size" room, the bathroom was surprisingly small. I felt like an NBAer adjusting the shower head, which was weird but a great boost for my ego. There is even a basic gym, which I did not expect and didn't have time to use, but it had all the elements for a great workout. The biggest downer were the noises in the morning from the trash trucks and other traffic on Spuistraat, and it was unsettling for us the first two days, especially as we were adjusting to the jet lag. In the end, I am happy to recommend this fine establishment. Hope other tourists have a similarly positive experience here.

Yelp
This hotel is absolutely so plush, yet subtle and welcoming. The decor is amazing; fell in love with the bird cage swing (need one for my bedroom!)!! AND the room scent perfume bottles smell AMAZING! I wish they could be purchased. I will stay here every trip I make to Amsterdam. Perfect distance to shops, restaurants, and cafes.

Yelp
I love this place. Had a deluxe canal room. Was a good size, gorgeous decor and nice bathroom. Looking at the room map on the back of the door it looks like most of the rooms are of similar size, just different views. The flowers I pre arranged with the hotel were in the room upon arrival and very nice. Charming bar and good room service. All personal were friendly efficient and seemed genuinely happy. Will definitely return on my next visit.

Yelp
Stayed twice in this very elegant, charming hotel. First, we stayed on the 4th floor Dec. 22 to Dec. 24,2017.The lobby was so beautifully designed; free tea and coffee, flavored water and cookies 24/7. A very good breakfast buffet. Shoutout to Teddy at the front desk. She was so helpful with all our needs. A family owned hotel in a perfect location, walking distance to red light district, shopping (like de Bijenkorf-to name a few) and restaurants. Room was very clean and bed so comfortable. Love the L'Occitane toiletries. Location wise this was an excellent choice. Second time we stayed was not so great. We were in room 119 on the first floor Dec. 31 to January 2. For 2 nights, we can hear the guests above us walking up to the extent that the chandeliers shakes. I don't know if its the old building but it was not a good experience at all. We complained at the front desk and to make the long story short, Anthony at the front desk said he will go to our room with one of his colleagues and listen and we said ok and left. When we came back to our room, and the room smelled weed .We were compensated for Euro100 for the noise for 2 nights but did not tell the manager about the weed .Overall , we love the hotel and will be back and this time will be on the 4th or 5th floor.

Yelp
The most beautiful hotel ever. I loved my weeklong stay here. From the amenities to staff, I'll never forget this place. This place has made me want to come back again. Such fond memories it gave me of Amsterdam.

Yelp
Fabulous charming reasonably priced.boutique hotel in a perfect location along Singel. Family owned and operated for I believe 70 years, the hotels charm and staff pride are apparent everywhere and with everyone who works there. Blend of Dutch with 19th century Japanese design influence. Wonderful personal touches from giving each guest an Ipad to use during their stay to free fresh ground cappuccinos, expeesso to putting out delicious cookies, cakes and chocolates for guests in the evening, this hotel experience was exceptional.

Yelp
What a great find in a centrally located, yet quiet area of Amsterdam! En route to a conference in Oosterbeek, the husband and I stayed here for several nights. We upgraded to a canal view room and were very pleased that we did. Not only was the view beautiful, but the room was large and well lit with plenty of natural light. The bathroom was a decent size for a European hotel. The innkeepers were very accommodating and there was never any hesitation to help us with restaurant recommendations, directions and luggage storage on our last day. As for the hotel itself, it is nicely remodeled with comfortable common areas and beautiful woodwork. The area seems very safe and at night, it is very quiet. There's a small, comfortable bar for drinks. The hotel is within easy walking distance to Anne Frank House, the Red Light District (see it at least once in your life!) and the main shopping areas. There is also a Canal-bus loading area within a five to ten minute walk. The main train station is about a fifteen minute walk. We had such a great experience at Hotel Estherea that when my friend recently requested a hotel recommendation for the area, I gladly offered this one. He splurged for the canal room as well and was equally impressed. I'm not sure if we'll ever be back in Amsterdam but we would definitely make this our home base.

Yelp
Cute hotel! Near everything. Friendly staff. If you're used spacious rooms, which we did not have in our boutique hotel in France, then you would love love this hotel. Our room was spacious, had heated bathroom floors, jacuzzi, very nice! I think we were upgraded to a suite. Very clean, had liquid soap, bar soap, shampoo AND CONDITIONER (rare at most hotels), and blow dryer. Even nicer than most American hotels actually. Most importantly they had AC. We had free wifi. We were in room 100. Do u need to spend $210/ night on a hotel? No. But is it worth it? Yes!!! It's by a canal.
google avatar

Yelp
All I can say is WOWZA! From the front, this hotel is unassuming and no different from the other old Dutch buildings on Singel, but once you walk in you are transported to a 5 star hotel. The bar is a magical pink room with pink crystal chandeliers, pink chairs, pink glasses, pink wallpaper, pink cherry blossoms, SO pretty! They also have a library, restaurant and lobby, all equally beautifully decorated. The room was small, but big enough for the two of us, and very beautiful. Decorated in all dark blue and gold, it looked like Marie Antoinette would sleep there. A 4 poster bed, large bathroom with his and her sinks, a shower and a jacuzzi. The room also had a small balcony which you could stand out on if you aren't afraid of small places or heights. The room service was CHEAP and yummy! There is no room service or service charge, we got a BLT 5 euro, a goat cheese/honey/walnut sandwich 6 euro, a glass of wine 4 euro and a soda for 2 euro, and it was all tasty and fresh! You DO have to leave your key at the front desk every time you leave, but it's no big deal and they are there 24/7. It was a great experience and I can not wait to return! Also, it was VERY centrally located! We easily walked to Dam Square, Waterloo market, several coffee shops and many restaurants! We only took cabs to and from the airport.

Yelp
Wonderful hotel! Highly designed, beautiful spaces and fun lively front desk help. Nice automatic coffee and espresso machines are a nice touch, and there's even a complimentary cell phone in the room for international travelers, that has an International plan!
google avatar

Hilary W.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect Amsterdam hotel. Charming, great location, amazing breakfast, and the decor is wonderful. The rooms are small but lovely. The concierge wasn't all that helpful but the rest of the staff was great. Rent bikes from the lobby and bike everywhere!!!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
An absolutely beautiful hotel with a great location. The complimentary coffee and cookies in the lobby were a great perk and every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The only drawback was that the bathroom in our room had patio doors connecting to the main area, creating a semi-open concept that I was not a huge fan of.
google avatar

Toby B.

Yelp
Second time and feels like home. Location is everything. Great coffee bar and a nepresso in your room! One of the most comfortable beds I've ever stayed in.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Terrific boutique hotel on Singel, in the heart of the Centrum. Walking to distance to pretty much everything (Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Jewish Quarter, Rembrandt House, Red Light District) plus easy access to tram and subway. Very cheerful, on-the-ball staff. Coffee in the lobby 24/7 plus sweets late afternoon/early evening daily. Great, reasonably priced breakfast. Decoration is quite fantastical and over the top, but wonderful. Priced competitively.
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
Classic, lovely boutique hotel in a wonderful part of Amsterdam. Set between a canal and a lively business/residential street, it can be a bit noisy on the lower levels if you're in the street side. Opt in for the breakfast. It's a buffet, but fresh and refreshed and replenished often. Cheerful, friendly staff who are more than willing to help out with anything you need.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
An awesome hotel with an incredible staff! Great location, close walking distance to must attractions and great restaurants. Oh, can't forget the coffee bar in the reception area of the hotel!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely loved this hotel! The staff was incredible, the lobby and rooms are stunning, and the food was delicious. Please stay there!

Yelp
Amazing hotel. Excellent location for us. Decor was amazing. Orange suite was most memorable hotel stay ever. I staid at larger rooms and suites. But orange suite (which is very large) has the best decor and was amazing. When I travel as tourist I usually don't like to stay in hotel. Only go to sleep and shower. Rest of the time try to do touristy things. But I honestly didn't want to leave the suite and was excited to come back and stay there. Unwind experience. Oh yeah the staff here is amazing. Thank you!
google avatar

Beth S.

Yelp
I loved this hotel! Such a charming, cozy lobby and first floor. Staff is very attentive. They have free coffee and tea all day and bring out snacks in the afternoon, always different! Food in the bar is reasonably priced, as are the drinks. The room was a really good size for two people and so was the bathroom. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!
google avatar

Rashi T.

Yelp
It is a charming boutique hotel in a great location. Absolutely loved the decor of the lobby and the great coffee/pastry bar. One of my favorite places to stay in Amsterdam!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome boutique hotel. Great character. Very comfortable rooms. Great service from the staff. Would definitely stay here again. Right next to a canal. Great view from room.
google avatar

Yelp
Charming, colorful, compact. Much like Amsterdam itself, the Estherea is a lovely surprise. I found an incredible deal on Jetsetter.com and it more than delivered on the promise. The rooms are comfortable, modern, full of patterns and rich tones. The wireless works extremely well and given my workload while in town, this was a big win. The breakfasts are excellent, the bar small and efficient. I would stay here with my family, which is an important benchmark versus a hotel where I can lay my head while traveling on business.
google avatar

Rohit A.

Yelp
The worst hotel ever. You can't park your car here if car is not real tiny. Front desk guys have no training on customer service. Its might be a normal for Amsterdam but per American Standard, these kinds of places are called Motel not hotel.

Gary F.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for four nights last week. This is a really great and welcoming hotel. The day manager, Amal, is a true professional and very friendly who found just the right room for us. The lobby has two great coffee machines and fresh tea (not tea bags) is available all day too. There are several "nooks" where you can sit near the lobby and have some privacy. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, and they make you feel comfortable and welcome. The hotel is located in a great neighborhood near a lot of nice restaurants, pubs and shops. In sum, they give great value for the money.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Beautiful boutique hotel on the canal. Room was spacious and beautifully decorated with a perfect canal view. Wonderful amenities from L'Occitane. Beautiful bar and waiting area downstairs. Free coffee, water, and pastries at night. Staff very friendly. We did ask for an extra pillow, however, and none ever arrived. I would recommend booking directly on the website to avoid miscommunication in price - I booked through hotels.com and was unpleasantly surprised that the price I was quoted was in USD, but the price charged at the hotel was in Euro. No one was willing or able (apparently) to fix it.
google avatar

Yelp
This is an AMAZING hotel. We stayed over spring break and it was very busy. The staff was incredible, they were never overwhelmed by the amount of people there. We had booked for a regular room and got upgraded to a suite. It was gorgeous! So so happy with my stay at this hotel. Will definitely go back if I have the opportunity!
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely hotel extremely well located in the city center. We initially had a too small room for our family of four but the hotel staff accommodated our desire for a larger room. Very pleased with the room upgrade.

Amazing stay in Amsterdam. Ask for Martin at reception and Leo at Maria's bar. They are two amazing individuals who will accommodate any need! Thank you Hotel Esthrea staff. Great service!

Yelp
Perfect location. No detail was left out here. The room was spacious and beautiful. The guest services were some of the best I've ever experienced. Ask for Martin, he will take excellent care of you.

Yelp
Great location, comfortable and quaint ( tall people have to duck in some places but that is the price of staying in historic buildings). Great cozy bar, very comfortable bed.

Yelp
You cant go wrong with booking here!!!!!!!!!!!! Theyre coffee/espresso machine in the lobby is the best stuff I have ever had, anywhere and its complimentary. In the Bar they also serve flavored water daily. There is a bakery out the front door, go left, then immediate left and its on the right at the end. There is also a great cafe, out the front door, go left and its before the alley on the corner. If you need a coffee shop, its behind the Hotel Estherea called New Times.

Yelp
Great place! Comfy and cozy! Couldnt get better for the price and location. Some very unique experience and practice - night treat/unlimited hot and cold refreshments at the lobby for all, paperless concept (each guest is given an ipad uduring the stay). I will come back if the reviews to follow echo half of the above. The passages could have been wider.

Yelp
Stayed here in august 2014 with wife. The hotel is along the canal of a quieter street. Once you enter the hotel, you are immediately greeted with a truly elegant and extravagant decor. The hotel is designed very traditionally with fantastic details in almost every piece of furniture and interior design. The lobby is decorated with very plush sofas and chairs, there is a reading area with table and bookshelf, open space entrance to Maria's bar (open 24/7) and entrance to the dining area. The main floor like the rest of the floors is intricately designed with meticulously and traditionally decorated. The layout is a bit of an adventure to navigate around (in a cool and exciting way) because there are nooks and hallways that lead to all sorts of meeting rooms, stairs, balconies, etc. The hotel uses L'occitaine shower gel, hand wash, shampoo and conditioner. Toilet paper is double or triple ply and room had two twins put together to form a king with a daybed. Room was very comfy and big. There is a fridge with two complimentary bottles of water. Hotel lobby has an area right outside the dining hall for complimentary coffee and tea. Room and lobby has jars of candies for the sweet tooth folks. Breakfast all u can eat is €18. Service was very pleasant. We came early at 10am ish, and they told us the party before us just checked out and they will clean up and prep the room within 45 mins. So we ate at the dining hall and once we finished, the bellboy brought us up to our room. He introduced the room and taught us how to use the features in it and gave us an ipad to use (the hotel goes digital and does not use paper hotel directory or pamphlets). There is wifi which requires you to connect via the email you registered when checking in or signing in via a social media account. They do have one peculiar behavior, which is that they issue one room key and you need to give it to the front desk when going out of the hotel. The key gets deactivated if you leave the building with it. Every time u come back, you get the key from the front desk. Hotel locks it's doors at 11pm, which requires u to just ring the doorbell, and someone will come open up at night. All in all the amenities were outstanding, and the service was friendly and nice. This hotel is highly recommended but does get pricey.
