"Heidelberg’s most luxurious hotel is also one of its oldest. Run by the Kretschmann family since opening in 1865, the Europäischer Hof offers a welcoming mix of historic prestige and modern design. The public areas are dotted with early-20th-century furnishings, while the spacious guest rooms have been tastefully renovated; some of the suites come with whirlpool tubs. At the Kurfürstenstube restaurant, guests can choose to sit in the wood-paneled dining room, decorated with brass chandeliers and copper etchings of Heidelberg, or out on the lovely terrace overlooking the garden. Also on-site is the trendy Fritz restaurant for seasonal specialties, as well as a couple of bar and lounge areas. Hotel amenities range from babysitting services and business facilities to car rentals, luxury shops, and even a hair salon, plus a panoramic spa with a pool, sauna, and sun terrace with views of Heidelberg Castle."

Hotel Europäischer Hof Heidelberg (Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Heidelberg has an unusually high concentration of hotels, thanks in part to the landmark Heidelberg Castle, which attracts a million visitors each year. The city’s most luxurious hotel, Hotel Europäischer Hof Heidelberg, plays a part in that history: it first opened in 1865 to host aristocratic guests attending events at the nearby castle. Though it’s been expanded and modernized many times over, this grand old hotel has been run by the same family for over a century, and its elegant interiors — with rich woodwork, coffered ceilings, crystal chandeliers, heavy drapery, and period furnishings — evoke days gone by. Rooms and suites display a slightly more modern edge, featuring an ivory and gold color palette, dark wood flooring, linen duvets, brocade details, and a mix of antique and contemporary pieces. The hotel’s highlights include a light-filled indoor pool and rooftop sun deck and a retro-styled cocktail bar with wood-paneled ceilings and leather armchairs." - Tablet Hotels

I love this hotel!! The rooms are elegant and spacious, the breakfasts are very delicious and plentiful, and the service is exceptional. I am an 82-year-old single woman traveling alone. The staff here was amazing - ever ready to make my stay as easy as possible. I needed the use of a wheelchair (I didn't have mine with me), and they allowed me to use theirs on an unlimited basis, even taking it out of the hotel as much as I wanted. They also had a walker and a rollator that I could use as needed out of the hotel. The hotel is not in the heart of the old town, but for those who walk easily, it is definitely walkable. Warning: taxi drivers want Euros for payment in much of Heidelberg - just so one knows ahead of time. Again, I love this hotel and would definitely recommend this as a first choice place to stay when visiting Heidelberg.

My partner and I were in Heidelberg to attend a Stolperstein ceremony. Having visited Heidelberg many times, I knew of the Europäische Hof but had never stayed there before. It exceeded our expectations. The hotel is steeped in traditional elegance with an abundance of opulent furnishings and marble with portraits of the great and good, including Queen Victoria, on the walls. ||||The service is outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble and every member of staff is friendly, welcoming and yet very efficient. The hotel is run by the von Kretschmann family. Dr. Caroline von Kretschmann seemed to be ever present and gave us, along with all her guests, a personal welcome.||||My partner is allergic to feathers, so our room was specially prepared to be hypoallergenic. One small problem was that she is also allergic to lilies and, apart from our room, there were lilies everywhere. Every table in the breakfast room had a vase of lilies and they were also on all landings. The staff were happy to remove them immediately from our vicinity however.||||The facilities are first class and everything is spotless.||||The hotel is not cheap but nevertheless provides great value for money. If you want to pamper yourself, while in Heidelberg, this is the place for you.

I stayed here a few months ago and I must say it was a breath of fresh air. The hotel is family owned and you feel very treasured as a guest . What stood out for me the most is Caroline von Kretschmann made an effort to go around the breakfast room and greet the guests individually .Sehr beeindruckend . Highly recommend if luxury, good service and comfort is important . Looking forward to my next visit My only issue was during dinner next to the bar . I had to refill my wine glass myself while two waiters were gathered around the bar area discussing family issues . Other than that everything was tiptop

It might be some time, before we are back in Heidelberg but if or when we visit again, we shall definitely stay at the Europäische Hof. We loved the traditional elegance combined with modern systems and technology and the service was superb. We also loved the fact that the hotel was still run as a family business and were impressed that Dr. Von Kretschmann took the trouble to greet guests personally. All in all it was a delightful experience and we had a wonderful time. ||My partner has allergies and the hotel went to great lengths to ensure that our room was hypoallergenic. Unfortunately I cannot remember their names but the young men on reception and the slim, dark haired women were absolutely wonderful. When I discovered that I had left a bag in a cafe in the Hauptstraße, she was so helpful and efficient in ensuring that I got my bag back. All the staff were absolutely amazing. ||I don’t hesitate in recommending the Europäische Hof. ||Chris Everett.

Wow what a lovely experience. My husband and I came to Europe to explore the Christmas markets. The staff from the second we reached the hotel to the moment we left met us with excellent service and more importantly kindness. The hotel has a perfect balance of old world regal decor (including a salon layout in both the shared spaces and rooms), in conjunction with modern upgrades to the bathrooms etc. When we walked in our room, my husband 1/2 joked that it was bigger than our downtown condo it was so spacious. There were lots of little special touches…a fresh flower, welcome dessert, optional turn down service, mirrored bathroom doors, 2 luggage valets, and meticulous cleanliness.||Between the first rate bar, cigar room, Michelin star restaurant, central location, and spa you can find plenty of reasons to stay in the hotel during your visit, and the hotel is central enough to the sites, bars, and restaurants that it makes it easy to explore Heidelberg. ||They say one of the best things you can do to cure jet lag is to swim. We made use of the pool (“spa” and gym) and were even able to borrow swim goggles. Between that and the anti-inflammatory celery and veggie juices at breakfast (special request from the existing buffet menu) this was a game changer to acclimating to the timezone and change in diet. ||We have zero complaints and will recommend the hotel to our friends and family too.

Beautiful and elegant hotel. Our room was so spacious, as was the bathroom. One side of the bed was adjustable, which my husband loved.||The service was exceptional, from the front desk to the bellman. Nice touch that the owner greeted us at breakfast..

We stayed two nights in Heidelberg at Hotel Europaischer Hof Heidelberg. It is a fantastic hotel, great location, the rooms are comfortable, and a nice spa/fitness area. What truly shines, however, is the staff. They go above and beyond to make you feel like a valid guest. From the check-in, to the concierge, to the bar staff, we always felt like we were the first priority. They are clearly a credit to the hotel. We will always stay here anytime we visit.

I spent in this hotel my last weekend in Heidelberg and I am glad I decided to do so. The room, a single comfort room, was spacious and well equipped. Finally a hotel with comfortable mattress and pillows! The bathroom was also quite big and clean. Italian branded toiletry adds a fancy touch to it. Friendly staff and a managing director fully dedicated to the hotel's guests. One day I will come back to Heidelberg. I know where I will stay. Grazie ❣️

Yelp
A historic upscale hotel located near Old Town (but on the opposite side of the water). A very long list of famous people have stayed here: from Winston Churchill to Jay-Z. It's located off of a one way street so can be slightly confusing to find the first time. They have their own court for drop off and there's a parking garage right next door. The first reaction is quiet elegance. That's your second and third reaction as well. The staff are very attentive and will book whatever you need. For an older hotel, the rooms are good size and well appointed (strong WiFi, small desk). The gym and pool are both excellent. The buffet breakfast is typical for a good European hotel. A nice selection of breads, cheeses, and meats with eggs available. You can get a custom coffee if you want. The hotel restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, covered for the rain or sun. The hotel is pricey but should be for the service. I gave it four stars but it's borderline 5.

Yelp
If you want a truly impeccable experience in Heidelberg, this is the hotel for you. It is a beautiful, traditional German atmosphere with a modern twist. Luxurious from the moment you walk in with the kindest, most humble and service-oriented staff. The food is delicious, rooms are clean and spa is great! I would highly recommend. It also is centrally located to shopping and attractions. I am grateful to the staff for making my experience in Germany wonderful!!

Yelp
An upscale German restaurant located in the centuries old historic five-star hotel bordering Old Town. It is here that Winston Churchill, Hitler and many other notable individuals, celebrities, and dignitaries have stayed including Jay Z. For that reason, Der Europasischer Hof hotel is steeped in history and is an important hotel to visit. The hotel is family owned and operated and has a great vibe. The hotel restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and is a welcome respite for those of us who prefer comfortable elegance, tranquility and calm in a sophisticated atmosphere away from the bustling crowd. The dining room is carpeted with linen tablecloths and fresh flowers on the table. The restaurant's Chef is Michelin Star worthy. The wine list is excellent. The bread is made off-site in a wood fired oven and is wonderful. We enjoyed traditional German dishes including White Asparagus in Hollandaise sauce, Butter Parsley Potatoes and Pork Scnitzel; all prepared to perfection and delicious. We also shared the Buffalo Mozzrella salad for a starter which was delicate, flavorful and excellent. You cannot go wrong here. Highly recommended. Reservations required.

Yelp
We absolutely love it here! We showed up with three young kids and we were greeted with toys as well as great service and comfortable beds.. Breakfast was amazing, as well as fresh flowers everywhere, great service, and a bar downstairs for my husband. This building is spectacular as well as the location!

Yelp
The Europaeischer Hof Heidelberg has earned every star and then some. Every time I stay there, the service and attention to detail is second to none. And most importantly it was like that the first time I stayed there when the hotel staff did not know me which is very unique and which is the reason I return there every time I go back to Heidelberg, my home town. The hotel is very well maintained and you can tell that a lot of care and attention is paid to every detail. The rooms are impeccable and if you need anything, the hotel will take care of it before you know it. Every communication with the hotel is very personalized and the staff goes out of the way to make you feel welcome and comfortable and is very accommodating. The hotel has all the amenities you could ask for (great gym and pool and spa), wonderful bar, excellent restaurant, and is ideally located in town. I can wholeheartedly recommend it and would choose the Europaeischer Hof over any large chain hotel and forfeit member points any day as you never get the same service, attention to detail and warm welcome that you get from the Europaeischer Hof in Heidelberg. It's a family owned and operated hotel that really cares for its staff and guests and you can tell - and it's worth supporting. I know I will return next time I travel back to Heidelberg and I am already looking forward to it.
