We searched for a central Davos Platz hotel with charm and an inside pool. And basically found it, but hey the charm comes at a price. For the current price level we'd recommend giving it a miss.||||The charm is of course partly due to the age; it's a 19th century Grand Hotel with lots of wings and memories. E.g. an elevator with benches to sit on is lovely! Pool/fitness/sauna also great, with mountain views during the swim/exercising. Nice free ticket for the nextdoor funicular if staying 2 nights or more, and the handy Davos/Klosters Premium pass too.||The rooms already are more of a mixed blessing. We had a Superior one, and both the sheer size of the room and the large balcony with deck chairs were impressive. As were the large double bed and the TV/Wifi. But the bathroom looked and felt 40-50 years old for most parts, except two new mirrors (two sinks, great!) with digital clock of which one was already broken. Bath tub old and worn-out, and that sink either gave a too hot or a too cold shower. Some other elements of the room also really need serious refurb, like a wardrobe with broken hinge; the design of the wardrobe and TV cupboard isn't great either when you want to store and (un)pack luggage, and the room looked always dark due to lack of enough lights.||Staff were generally friendly and helpful, e.g. Reception. BUT if the room door has a sign outside 'do not disturb' (as we were out for breakfast, and wanted to arrange towels for keep/change after that) and the cleaners simply came into our room (I guess after knocking) and did the cleaning with the wrong info on the towels – a huge shame, rude and lack of proper attitude! And probably the biggest BUT for the whole hotel: for advertising as 4 star, and having that price level, one serves full breakfast (American/English) with hot dishes. _Not_ just continental breakfast with a decent offering of bread and cheese and jam (but limited cereals); as it was quiet the 2nd day we asked the waiter for boiled eggs and he brought them made-to-order, but it's unclear whether this was an extra or a normal part of the breakfast.||Overall: too much homework for the hotel to be worth 4 stars currently, more 2-3 stars.
