Really clean. The location seems great because is in front of the train station, but is full with gypsies. If you are a girl travelling alone is better to go to bed early. You have a mini bar full with drinks that can finish every day and they will refilled for free. When you do the reservation make sure that you have breakfast included, otherwise it will be 15€ charge... I couldn't try their breakfast.

My room was tiny and it looked like it haven’t been renovated for YEARS; furniture and walls looked just like my grandma’s old stuff. It didn’t really bother me, as I only stayed for 1 night. — But what really bothered me was the absence of AC! Come on, it’s August, it’s 40C outside! I guess, that the free mini-bar and free refreshments (the cake was very good, by the way) in the lobby are supposed to make guests less angry. — Stuff was not really friendly, but I guess it’s simply because it’s Germany. — I stayed at different hotel before (it is located really close to this one). I payed for stay almost same amount, but everything was incomparably better. I recommend to book different hotel, as there are a lot of much better options. — The location is great, but again, there are better places at the very same spot.

Avoid! The first sign of trouble was when there was no one at the front desk, but rather a note to check in at a hotel next door. We went to the other hotel only to find out they had given away our room. There were no options available for us anymore. We have shown up a day late due to travel issues, but had called the moment we could, the day before our original reservation even, and agreed to pay for our entire stay including the missed day. We were assured many times that our booking was safe, especially since we were going to pay for all the nights. After waiting for a manager who clearly was never coming, I told the person manning the desk that we would just cancel. His response: "Oh good!". We ultimately ended up booking at the Residence Inn in Old Frankfort. Much better location, much more comfortable, and the front desk was willing to work with us even with no notice. Now I need to put a notice in with my credit card company to make sure that hotel excelsior doesn't still charge us for the room that they never were able to give us to begin with.

I stayed there 2012 but I just came here to review because my school writing that . remind me of the good impression. Not only the location closed to station. But I cant' believe it free minibar (Can top up) and Full of drink, Juice, beer etc. Staff friendly advice all the local shops, restaurants. And another surprise is snacks at the lobby with coffee and tea. All day you can have. So generous I can say. With the cheap price you get more than you expected. Bravo! I recommend.

Be warned, most rooms do not have AC. However this hotel has many other pluses. The breakfast in the morning is wonderful. They include noodles and rice too which is a delightful break from the norm. A personal favorite of mine is the free lemon bread they offer dog the day as well as the beers, Waters, and sodas in the mini bar that are restocked daily and are complimentary. Last but not least is location, the Excelsior is extremely close to the train station making travel easy. Overall great hotel, but you may want to pay the additional 50 euros for AC.

I would recommend. Good service, lobby and breakfast area is neat. Breakfast is good, the minibar in the room is free. The rooms are small but comfy, but the carpet is a little bit dusty. The downsize is: my room was facing the road and i had trouble to sleep with the noise from the busy road.

No air-conditioning was the only drawback for me and it was blazing hot in the summer. The place is very ideally positioned, just a mere 1 minute walk to the central station entrance. They provide free mini bars in every room and free water/tea/light snack in the lobby which is a really nice touch that you rarely see even in major hotel companies.

I had booked a room online, photos showed a roomy, modern clean space... fast forward a few months. we check in, go to our room. Barely a foot between beds and between the window/wall. The balcony door never did lock. In "locked" position I was able to pull open with little force, not to mention the noise, but seriously, my neighbor could have hopped over the partition and into our room in a blink. ||The bathroom had mould all over the ceiling - why? because instead of a vent to release steam, there is a HOLE IN THE WALL LEADING TO THE BEDROOM IN LIEU! Not only is this unsanitary, HELLO - the 5" x 3.5" hole looks from a bed to the BATHTUB. how is this even ok? luckily we were travelling with family, but how awkward if the room was booked by a bunch of friends?? The "tea & coffee in the lobby" was first thing in the morning - once gone it was gone, to be replaced with litter than never seemed to be cleared away. ||The one point that was factual is that the mini bar does in fact come with 2 pepsi, 2 beer, 2 waters and juice per day. I think I would rather spend money buying these items and have a better place to sleep!

Yelp
Good value for money 3* hotel (booked via http://www.bookings.com) . Think it was (October 2008) about 50 Euros including buffet breakfast for a single room. Next door is the Monopol with an extra star but they belong together. Will try the Monopol next time at it looks worth 10 Euros extra. They share a small 'business room' with a half dozen PC's & good internet connection & the mini bar & hot drinks (in the lobby) are free (but nothing stronger than beer). Think they offer to launder one shirt a day free too, but didn't try them out. Immediately adjacent to the main railway station (but round the corner and far enough from the Red Light district). No parking!
