You cannot fault the location and aspect of this hotel, set in a prime location adjacent to both the lighthouse and the beach of Meloneras, factors which have encouraged me to return time after time. ||However, on this occasion the hotel fell woefully short of my expectations of the five star adult only experience based on previous visits.||There is no way around the fact that the sun loungers around the pool are no longer cleaned daily. In fact I’d wager it’s been many weeks, perhaps months, since they’ve been cleaned - stains of dried in sweat and suntan lotion are visible everywhere. Compounding the issue is the apparent new policy of one towel per guest. You have to argue to get more than one and if they refuse you just have to sit on the dirt and sweat. This has never been the case before.||Worse, if you complain, they will thank you for your very helpful feedback- but nothing will change.||It is the same situation with the food. Upon arrival we discovered the main restaurant - and then this was suddenly changed to the main kitchen - was an undergoing a refurb. Whose bright idea it was to plan this work during the UK half term and at a time when the hotel is|fully booked I cannot say. I can say , though, that the previously amazing dining experience for those of us on half board has been ruined. Even those on bed and breakfast are commenting already that the alternative is about as welcome or efficient as a bus replacement service for an intercity train.||Now, breakfast takes place at pool level - the previous beautiful morning view of the waves is virtually non existent. We are given a menu comprising of ‘starters’ - a series of cold bruschettas. I dare say someone enjoys hummus and pumpkin seeds on cold toast for breakfast but it is not me. The main hot option is egg centric, similar to previous visits - if rather lukewarm- more of that later. As the elaborate and delicious buffet option is no longer available, replaced by a couple of stands of meat, cheese, juices etc, a ‘pudding’ option of churros or pancakes can also be selected. All seems rather good, except when we realise that all food orders arrive at once. At least one of your 3 choices will be cold or lukewarm by the time you eat it. Again we bring this up with management; again they are delighted with feedback. But do nothing.||We try both on site a la carte options. Maybe management truly believe that this is better than the a la carte set menu supplemented with an extensive evening buffet we had previously enjoyed. Alas, it pales in comparison. In the downstairs restaurant (the same place as breakfast) I wait an hour for a tasteless and lukewarm pice of salmon with oily chips. I wanted a vegetable too though this was a step too far and I was told quite curtly that I would be charged extra for this. Worse, no mention of an additional charge is mentioned on the menu. I have to argue with the guest relations manager to get this removed despite assurances from another guest relations representative that it would not be charged. ||We decided to go to the buffet at a neighbouring Lopesan hotel for the rest of our stay. It certainly wasn’t adult only, and it wasn’t the serene, peaceful dinner we booked, but I will say all the staff there greeted us with big smiles|and couldn’t do enough to help.||I could say more - such as charging for a glass of ice, the fixtures and fittings starting to look shabby and one lift out of order at least every few days. Overall definitely not five star at the moment. ||Please, owners, take action before it’s too late.
