Had a great stay at the Occidental. Great location- close to everything lovely views of the marina. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and lovely cocktails in the evening. The bar is an amazing place to watch the sunset, we didn’t eat dinner but it looked nice. Would highly recommend staying here if visiting faro.

We had a lovely stay for one week. Location is perfect and the staff was very friendly & helpful.||The first night we got an upgraded to a premium room which has located on first floor facing the street. Thankfully we got to switch rooms the next day since the first floor was very noisy and it was hard to get a good night sleep if staying at that floor. The premium room at first floor was ok, it was a bit bigger but it only had one narrow window which made the room a bit too dark. The main reason for us switching rooms was the noise from the street, even on a week day it was not possible to get a good night sleep from that floor. Thankfully we moved to a much better room the next day ( which was not even premium, but superior double ). That room was located on third floor facing the other street, which was more quiet. It was honestly perfect. The room was a bit smaller but it had a balcony and bigger windows so the room got much more light during the day. But the best part, it was quiet! ||I don’t really understand how the previous room was an upgrade since this one was so much better! We loved our stay there and I am so grateful for the staff for allowing us to switch rooms. ||I would advice staying at 2nd or 3rd floor and avoiding 1st floor due to the noise from the street. ||Gym & sauna was good but the steam room needs fixing since it smelled like they might have a mold problem there. ||Breakfast was great! Rooftop bar was also amazing. Pool was not big but very cozy with a great view. ||I do recommend the hotel but make sure to stay at the right floor.

Could have been a 5 star review but sadly only merited 3. Nice hotel in a great location near the marina and lots of bars and restaurants. Lovely common areas but the rooms, while clean and spacious, are in need of some care and attention. Also, the television stopped working, and while you don't go to a hotel to watch television it is nice to catch up with the news while you get ready in the morning and freshen up to go out for the evening. Furthermore the staff although generally pleasant were let down by the person on reception at the time of our departure who could not( or possibly could not be bothered to) arrange a taxi to the airport for us.

Nice hotel , location in faro is excellent however service very slow , booking in for 2pm and not getting our key untill 2.45 because house service hadn't prepared the room. However I think that's portugal in general poor service |The location is excellent, rooms are tidy , well maintained if a little small. We stayed in the deluxe and it was a good 3 star ..but 4 star is a push stand in the bath shower , bathroom and bedroom quite small and needs an upgrade. Breakfast not hot , no milk jugs, and again poor service ., also work was going on in the restaurant fixing the glass panels plus a management meeting overseeing the work while breakfast was still open very poor etiquette( it's a roof top terrace which is lovely)|We paid 227 per night ..way over priced..it's a good 3 star hotel worth at most worth 140 / 150 per night on its best day !|Would i recommend it ...for one night only ! But Only 1 night !!!

We had a great experience with Bruno Couto at the front desk. A very professional employee. Knowledgeable in all local sites to see, good local restaurants, & informed us of all the hotel immenities. Kept our bags for a few hours after check-out until we had to catch our bus to Armação de Pera. Bruno is top notch. Give this man a raise.

Having changed the dates of our original booking and received an email from the hotel acknowledging this, when we arrived at the hotel they had no record of this and I spent a very anxious 20 minutes trying to find the email from them as proof which I eventually found. We'd booked a standard double room and ended up in a premium as that's all they had left so it worked in our favour but it was very stressful.||The room is clean and the provisions are good - tea, coffee, bathroom complimentaries. The air conditioning is not great, set it at 21° for overnight and it switches off when it gets there, then stays off for so long. I've got up in the night really hot and it's been 24° in the room and I've had to fiddle with the aircon switch to make it come back on.||The bathroom has no hooks to hang anything on and no shelves to put anything on so you end up with all your own bottles all over the sink area.||The breakfast is really good with lots of choice and the view from the rooftop terrace is fabulous. We had dinner one evening and the service was slow and we felt more like an inconvenience because we hadn't booked beforehand. We also opted for the cheaper snacks menu rather than the €32 menu so that probably didn't help with us not receiving any real attention.||The hotel feels a bit cold and sterile. The entrance is quite far from the reception desk and no-one says hello or goodbye when you come and go (we've been here 5 days and not one member of the staff - except for one of the cleaners - has acknowledged us in all that time, apart from when we went to the desk to book the shuttle bus). None of the breakfast staff says hello or even looks at you. There is no character or personality - it's very clinical with no personal touches. The gym (I did use it) is quite good for a hotel although too warm - needs separate air conditioning units!||Wouldn't stay here again because it does just feel like a place to sleep. Feels like you literally pay your money and get a room to sleep in.

The staff was nice and it was very well located. Although it’s close to the water it’s still a 15 min drive to the beach. Everything in town is a 1-10 min walk though. ||||I was working remotely on this trip and the WiFi was so bad I had to go to a co working space. I couldn’t even do a google search, it would fail due to the speed. ||||Also the first room I had smelled moldy and all the hall ways did. They moved me to a room that didn’t smell as bad. But it was a hotel wide issue. ||||If you aren’t sensitive to mold and don’t care about WiFi speed it may be a good option due to the location. Although the overall quality for a 4 star hotel was poor.

Yelp
The views from the rooftop deck are the best in Faro. You can see the entire marina and watch planes land at the nearby airport. The service was great, the menu is extensive and the wine is exclusive. It's a tad bit expensive for the area but worth visiting for a drink.
