Hotel Federale Lugano

Greetings, Laying eyes on this magnificent Hotel from the train platform was truly breathtaking. Once inside and up in our room it felt as if we were stepping into a quiet gem which invoked feelings of being in another more gentle century. Well worth the effort of finding Hotel Federale and every aspect was just perfect. We will be returning. Kindest regards and thank you.

2 minutes from the main Train Station. Great evening meal. But it is the Team at the Hotel that made it so special. Helpful, happy and friendly. They really made it a very special place to stay!

Nice place but it is very expensive

One cannot find a hotel more convenient to the Lugano train station than the Hotel Federale. You literally can see its roof line from the station! There is a catch--but not a bad one. It is located well down a three-tiered ramp...which is great while walking down with luggage but a bit more challenging when going back up. But that's a minor annoyance compared to how wonderful the actual hotel is. Newly refurbished, the room and bathroom are clean and the bed comfortable. If you are touring Switzerland by rail and Lugano is one of your stops, definitely consider Hotel Federale.

We had a wonderful stay.Great location. The staff was very helpful. We loved sitting on the balcony with a view of the mountains. Breakfast was excellent! Dinners were also delicious! The best risotto I have ever eaten.

Great location, close to the train station. Friendly staff. Breakfast buffet is good. That’s all the nice things. |Room was ok. Old furniture so it made it look shabby. |We were overcharged when we checked out. Didn’t get a bill but we were told it was the city charges. Paid about CHF 5,50 per person per night. When we checked later on the Lugano city website, it said max CHF 4,50. Yes, our fault. We should’ve insisted on a bill. |So I can’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

Last June, I stayed in this hotel for the second time in my life (the previous visit was in 1997!). This is a charming hotel in a quiet corner of Lugano. Situated ideally near the train station and within walking distance of the city center, the hotel offers a comfortable home away from home. The staff is super friendly and the hotel, which was founded more than a century ago, breathes tradition and superb experience in hospitality.

I had a wonderful stay at the hotel, and I want to especially thank Giuseppe at the front desk. He was incredibly kind, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. From the moment I arrived, he was super friendly and helpful. He gave great tips about the area, helped me with everything I needed. It really felt like he cared, and that made my stay so much nicer. You don’t always meet people like that in hotels — thank you, Giuseppe!
