Son Gener, Between Son Servera and Arta, Mallorca - Explore & Book

"Leave Palma in search of peace, space and natural serenity and you need look no further than Son Gener. Just an hour away on the eastern side of the island, this elegant 18th-century finca with 15 suites lies on the brow of a hill, not far from the ancient town of Arta. Set in beautiful Mediterranean gardens beside orchards and olive groves, with views to the distant sea, its tranquility extends inside and out thanks to the imagination of its Mallorcan architect-owner, Toni Esteva, and it is popular with older German and English couples.Walk inside and grooved limestone floors sweep underfoot giving the impression of cool drifting snow. Expect large, light rooms, soothing creamy colours, modern minimalist artworks, a Baby Grand and furnishings mixed with occasional antiques and scatterings of fascinating coffee-table books. Walk out to their spa and pool and you'll pass their organic gardens. No prizes for guessing where the food comes from. Up in the hills, peace at last save for occasional goat bells jingling. You won't beat Son Gener for its uncluttered understated charm and calm. Delightful. Highs Excellent breakfasts served on the lovely terrace in warm weather, and available until 11am so great for sleepyheadsExceptional interiors – soothing, subtle, spacious – and gorgeous, bedrooms with antique furniture, private terraces and huge bathroomsExcellent staff led by charming manager Janette. Everyone was friendly, efficient and kind, there's a relaxed homely feel hereSmall, stylish spa with indoor and outdoor swimming pools Just a short drive to unspoilt beaches and several golf courses Lows Some rooms are open-plan, with their bathroom integrated into the bedroom, separated by a low wall. Some won't like this, though your toilet is in a walled cubicleSlightly off-the-beaten-track location – you'll need a hire car, especially to dine out on Tuesdays when the restaurant is closedNot the place for hectic nightlife – you're in the coutryside and there's no bar, though you can order drinks" - Aidan Forestier-Walker

I wish we could leave more stars! We traveled as a family of 4 with two babies and the hotel was so accommodating. The rooms and hotel are truly exceptional if you are looking for country tranquility. The design of the hotel is relaxing from your first step through the door. The room we stayed in was dreamy and well equipped for a week stay. We even used their laundry service and it was wonderful to be able to leave and have our clothes be clean and packed for the long flight home. The biggest surprise for us was the restaurant and service staff. The food was amazing and the servers knew our children’s names after day one. We walked down from our room to breakfast and dinner every night with a table waiting for us and placemats and baby chairs set for the kids. It was these simple gestures that made our trip so much easier and more pleasant - as anyone traveling with small babies understands! We felt like we were staying with family it was wonderful. Thank you very much to the whole staff, we hope to return!

You will not experience relaxation like this anywhere else. The most beautiful property and incredible service. Close enough to drive to Mallorca's best beaches but away from the noise. This was my second time staying and I could not recommend it more. I will be back!

Spent 8 days in Mallorca and the most magical of them all was at Son Gener. I would come back to this island in a heartbeat, simply to stay at this hotel again.

We have just had an idyllic 4 days at Son Gener. It is just beautiful, quiet, gorgeous pools, stunning hotel and gardens, beautiful food, really lovey rooms, the friendliest staff, its just everything you could want from a rural Hotel. Arta nearby has a fantastic Market on the Tuesday, a couple of lovely restaurants and if you are willing to walk on a dirt track for 20 minutes down you can find a beautiful unspoilt beach not far away in the car. We had our two girls 17 and 13 with us and they loved the Hotel and the area, but it is quiet. |Thank you to Henrik at Rural Hotels Mallorca for recommending and organising this trip for us, very much recommend using him, very helpful and has other Hotels around the Island if you want to move around a bit. |Huge Thank you to everyone at Son Gener. |Francesca And Marc Wilkinson

This hotel was our favorite while in Mallorca! Peaceful, quiet, comfortable, lots of flowers and beautifully designed spaces for dining and relaxing. Our room was in the main house, and it and the bathroom were large and spacious - fantastic water pressure in the shower - and lots of thoughtful details in the rooms. If we are able to return in the future, I might consider booking a room in the other building, as the views and pools were exquisite. The breakfast was hearty, offering both typical fruit, meat, cereals, etc., but also freshly cooked egg options and baked goods. We also enjoyed dinner one night and the food and wine list were wonderful. Overall, the staff were kind and helpful, we would highly recommend!

Echoing lots of the other glowing reviews - Finca Son Gener was a true oasis on Mallorca. By far our best experience across 5 hotels on the island (several of which also came at a higher price point!). ||||Gorgeous sprawling grounds, beautiful (quiet) pools, lots of nooks and crannies to relax and soak in the view / atmosphere. Room was pristine and well appointed. Lovely set menu dinners on the terrace each night. Breakfast was fresh, plentiful, and always with delicious home made treats. We never did manage to leave the hotel in the 2 days we were there!||||Note this is a 'deluxe homestay' type experience - don't come expecting a 'standard' 5* hotel (service by the pool, fully functioning reception / concierge, spa therapist on premise, extensive restaurant menu etc). But if you want to feel at home in gorgeous surroundings, there is no better place in Mallorca.

We are a very well travelled couple in our mid 30s and were on a kid free vacation. Son Gener absolutely blew our minds. It’s a truly magical place and we can’t stop talking about when we will be back. The grounds and pools are stunning, the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. Some guests have been coming back for over 20 years. I am so confused why this place was not listed on the best hotels in Mallorca lists I read because it deserves to be (although maybe then it would become too popular) we stayed in the Rosa suite which has to be the nicest on the property, the rooms all seem to be massive though. The breakfast spread is to die for and dinner was nice although we would have preferred a more a La cart option. It’s very close to towns you can visit though for alternate dinner options. Don’t hesitate, just book this place!!
