4 Best Day Trips from Rome

"Hotel Flora is housed in an elegant Liberty-style villa surrounded by a charming garden. It's conveniently located a short walk from the train station and ten minutes from the center of town. Rooms are clean and serviceable with parquet floors, traditional decor, and marble bathrooms. It's a nice, tranqil base in the Castelli Romani, but don't expect the kind of five-star accommodations you'd find in Rome." - Laura Itzkowitz, Arlene Gibbs

"How did it strike you on arrival?Hotel Flora is housed in an elegant Liberty-style villa surrounded by a charming garden. It's conveniently located a short walk from the train station and ten minutes from the center of town, but feels quite tranquil compared to Rome. What’s the crowd like?Because of its convenient location, this hotel draws business travelers who prefer to stay just outside of Rome's hustle and bustle as well as visitors using it as a base to explore the Castelli Romani. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Rooms are clean and serviceable with parquet floors, traditional decor, and marble bathrooms. For a nominal fee, you can upgrade to a spacious junior suite with a living room and hydromassage tub. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? The hotel provides free Wi-Fi. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.A buffet breakfast is included in the rate and the garden is a pleasant place to enjoy a meal when the weather is nice. There's also parking on-site. What was most memorable about your stay? This hotel is a nice base in the Castelli Romani, but don't expect the kind of five-star accommodations you'd find in Rome." - Laura Itzkowitz

Lovely location, lovely service, but Internet quite poor & needs improving. The rooms could also benefit from more plug sockets.

We had a basic room (located in a smaller building of this hotel), which was very very dirty and dilapidated. It was just enough to have a look at stained bed-side lampshades (see pictures) when entering the room… Dust everywhere and an army of small ants in a corner under the window.||||The shower & toilet room was a the dirtiest I've ever seen. In short - unsanitary. And pictures speak here better than words, please have a look at them...... Just looking at this shower made me sick. I was only able to wash myself using the lowest shower head intended for the feet, because it was the only part (out of 3) with more-or-less properly functioning jets. In my opinion, the shower room was never properly cleaned given that lime, fungus and dust were seen everywhere, with sticky shower cabin floor and black toilet rim.||||Another surprise awaited us just before midnight when we were woken up by a terrible compressor sound outside and started to suffocate in our room. Looking outside, we saw beneath a guy armed with respirator and hose while sprinkling some stinky stuff along the walls of the building. We called the reception, where they calmly (= rudely) explained to us that a mosquito extermination was going on and it would only last for half an hour! Surprisingly, there was no advance warning given to us about this guests’ disinfection operation and we slept with the windows open. So we had a health disorder and could not sleep half of night ....||||Finally, it was not possible to make a claim to the hotel administrator, because she/he was not at work at the time of our check-out (10.00-11 a.m).||||So it's the worst our impression from Frescati, definitely we are not going to visit this disinfected hotel again.

It's a fancy, well smelling exterior - but that's all. Rooms are not at all close to pictures and are noisy from old fans. Not to mention there are wires with sketcky electrical installations hanging over the room and bed. ||It says the hotel has wifi but it's in theory. I reality the wifi is terrible and not working. In annex the reach is one small dot and disconnecting all the time. ||Free parking as promised. No possibilites for café or other refreshments. ||Breakfast 24 euro extra for two perons. ||I would not recommend this to anyone and will choose another hotel next time.

BEWARE. It is very old and dated and poorly maintained however that could over looked if it werent for the poor service and ill tempered old, miserable, fat lady with the 2 dogs who sits in the lounge area all day and night. She yells at the children, her dogs roam around inside and out (we have 2 people allergic to dogs), would not let us meet or gather in the common lounge area. Our party booked 8 rooms for 12 nights for a fencing camp. The children get tired after 12 hours of fencing and gather for dinner at the common area. We clean up after each usage. It is always empty with exception for the old lady and her dogs. After using the table the first night, she tried to kick us out. After second night, they said we needed to purchase something and pay a cleaning fee which we did both. The male gentleman front desk was nice and assured us it was ok to gather at the lounge however we kept running into issues everyday with the rude, fat old lady giving us a hard time. Cleaning lady from South America was very nice. Breakfast was the exact same thing every morning, pastries bought from a bakery, soggy eggs, cheese, prosciutto, yogurt, and toast. Overall, I would avoid this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights on the 4th floor in the main building. The hotel is in a great location, just a 5 minute walk from the train station and 5 minutes from the center of Frascati. Frascati is a wonderful little town, a nice change of pace from being in Rome for a couple days. The hotel is a bit older but has a nice charm about it. The rooms are very clean and the bed was surprisingly very comfortable. I also had a very large terrace outside my room, with stunning views. The employees that work at the hotel are very nice as well. I really enjoyed the peace and quiet of this hotel. My only compliant was that on Saturday morning ( around 8am) right outside the terrace door, their were men painting and doing work on the terrace. That meant I had to keep my curtains tightly closed so they wouldn't see in my room and I couldn't step outside for my morning coffee. Timing could have been better, but that wont happen with everyone's stay. If I were to return to Frascati, I would stay here.
