4 Best Day Trips from Rome

"Hotel Flora is housed in an elegant Liberty-style villa surrounded by a charming garden. It's conveniently located a short walk from the train station and ten minutes from the center of town. Rooms are clean and serviceable with parquet floors, traditional decor, and marble bathrooms. It's a nice, tranqil base in the Castelli Romani, but don't expect the kind of five-star accommodations you'd find in Rome." - Laura Itzkowitz, Arlene Gibbs

Hotel Flora

"How did it strike you on arrival?Hotel Flora is housed in an elegant Liberty-style villa surrounded by a charming garden. It's conveniently located a short walk from the train station and ten minutes from the center of town, but feels quite tranquil compared to Rome. What’s the crowd like?Because of its convenient location, this hotel draws business travelers who prefer to stay just outside of Rome's hustle and bustle as well as visitors using it as a base to explore the Castelli Romani. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Rooms are clean and serviceable with parquet floors, traditional decor, and marble bathrooms. For a nominal fee, you can upgrade to a spacious junior suite with a living room and hydromassage tub. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? The hotel provides free Wi-Fi. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.A buffet breakfast is included in the rate and the garden is a pleasant place to enjoy a meal when the weather is nice. There's also parking on-site. What was most memorable about your stay? This hotel is a nice base in the Castelli Romani, but don't expect the kind of five-star accommodations you'd find in Rome." - Laura Itzkowitz

I stayed at this hotel for two nights on a business trip. The exterior and the lobby are quite impressive, but the rest of the interiors are not maintained at the same level. In my room, the bathroom had an electrical outlet detached from the wall, and the furniture and fixtures were poorly maintained. The staff was very kind and the cleanliness was excellent, but given the hotel’s category, I expected the rooms to be better equipped. Overall, it feels rather dated. A separate downside is the parking: the inner courtyard can only fit a limited number of cars, so be prepared for a long walk if you need to park in a regular parking area.

Room I had was large and clean, but the furniture looks quite old, amd this is not a compliment. My room has a very disturbing buzzing sound from the electrical panel inside the room. To turn that off, you had to take the card key out, which made the AC in full blast without being able to control it, hence, the card was needed, which in turn was starting the buzzing... I had to sleep with my noise canceling plugs.

Given the reality of Frascati life and the price Hotel Flora was excellent. Being away from the buz of Rome this village is a gem. Gorgeous garden setting and polite service.

Attention! The plugs are of Italian type which is not compatible usual European plugs, and there is only one adpater available for rent for the whole hotel from the front desk.Breakfast has little choice.Room facilities are old. Front desk is frienly though.

We had a basic room (located in a smaller building of this hotel), which was very very dirty and dilapidated. It was just enough to have a look at stained bed-side lampshades (see pictures) when entering the room… Dust everywhere and an army of small ants in a corner under the window.||||The shower & toilet room was a the dirtiest I've ever seen. In short - unsanitary. And pictures speak here better than words, please have a look at them...... Just looking at this shower made me sick. I was only able to wash myself using the lowest shower head intended for the feet, because it was the only part (out of 3) with more-or-less properly functioning jets. In my opinion, the shower room was never properly cleaned given that lime, fungus and dust were seen everywhere, with sticky shower cabin floor and black toilet rim.||||Another surprise awaited us just before midnight when we were woken up by a terrible compressor sound outside and started to suffocate in our room. Looking outside, we saw beneath a guy armed with respirator and hose while sprinkling some stinky stuff along the walls of the building. We called the reception, where they calmly (= rudely) explained to us that a mosquito extermination was going on and it would only last for half an hour! Surprisingly, there was no advance warning given to us about this guests’ disinfection operation and we slept with the windows open. So we had a health disorder and could not sleep half of night ....||||Finally, it was not possible to make a claim to the hotel administrator, because she/he was not at work at the time of our check-out (10.00-11 a.m).||||So it's the worst our impression from Frescati, definitely we are not going to visit this disinfected hotel again.

It's a fancy, well smelling exterior - but that's all. Rooms are not at all close to pictures and are noisy from old fans. Not to mention there are wires with sketcky electrical installations hanging over the room and bed. ||It says the hotel has wifi but it's in theory. I reality the wifi is terrible and not working. In annex the reach is one small dot and disconnecting all the time. ||Free parking as promised. No possibilites for café or other refreshments. ||Breakfast 24 euro extra for two perons. ||I would not recommend this to anyone and will choose another hotel next time.
