The 85 Best Airbnbs and Vacation Rentals in the World, According to Super-Travelers

"He describes this three-bedroom private home, run by the hospitality group that owns Hotel Flora and Novecento Boutique Hotel, as “an oasis within the oasis of the Venetian lagoon." - Ashlea Halpern

"The Hotel Flora is an ivy-clad 17 th -century palazzo tucked down a narrow alleyway in San Marco. It’s hidden from the crowds, but still an easy stroll to the buzz of San Marco Palazzo and the Grand Canal. Like all grand Venetian homes, it’s had its share of interesting inhabitants over the years, including a School of Painting, a salon for well-known local artists. Continuing the artistic legacy, the Romanelli family—photographers, writers, and antique collectors among them—has owned the hotel for the last 50 years. In the classic manner of a pension, the hotel is intimate and the staff welcoming and friendly. Rooms are cozy and decorated with traditional antique furnishings, heavy drapes, and bold brocade wallpaper in some. Pop down to the Victorian-styled bar for an aperitif, or linger over an espresso with a good read in the hushed garden."

Friuli-Venezia Giulia Is an Italy Far Removed from Its Stereotypes

"We stayed up well past the crowds, scurrying over empty bridges on glistening canals on our way to the Hotel Flora in the San Marco district, a marvelous mix of a grand hotel and a cherished pensione with staff perfectly cast for a Wes Anderson film."

My family (myself, wife, 22 y/o son and 18 y/o daughter) stayed here 3 nights while visiting Venice. We couldn't recommend the Hotel Flora more. Great vibe, clean rooms, helpful staff, delicious breakfast, and chill bar. Can't beat the location!

Our family stayed here for 3 nights as part of our 2 weeks trip in Italy. A lovely boutique hotel. The staff is always courteous and friendly. The room is clean. A continental breakfast was included in the room rate. The location is so convenient to everywhere. We would love to stay here again.

A true gem situated down an alley of one of Venice's plushest shopping streets, a 4 minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The hotel is a true family affair being the 3rd generation of a 50 year tradition.||The staff are delightful throughout and can't do enough. Officially it is a 3* hotel which I find incredible. It's a definite 4* place with 5* staff. The room was spacious and comfortable, the breakfast had everything you needed for a continental breakfast with eggs a €5 extra charge.||As an accredited travel agent I have no hesitation in recommending it to clients who want a charming boutique hotel (30 rooms) and don't want to spend the exorbitant prices of Venice's famous 5* hotels.

This is the absolute best experience I've ever had at a hotel. There's nothing corporate or formulaic about this hotel, and that is its beauty.||We arrived in Venice on a day of strike, so the vaporetti only went as far as the Rialto bridge, so our directions didn't work to the hotel, so we used our phone's GPS. Hilariously, the GPS took us to the garden entrance, so we became known for entering through the terrace/garden entrance -- but what a beautiful way to enter this hotel!||Upon entry, we were given a spritz and some snacks. As you will see from my photos, aperitivo at Hotel Flora is not to be missed. I loved my Cynar spritz and my husband loved his Select.||The breakfast is so wonderful and cute. You get a basket of breads, including warm croissants, with jams and honeys and butters. My favorite breakfast component was the little pot of greek yogurt that came with fruits and granola. You can easily order a cappuccino or americano, and breakfast comes automatically with a little carafe of juice. Since I wasn't eating a lot of protein in Italy, I found it nice to add on eggs to my breakfast each day, and each preparation was perfectly executed ($5 for two eggs).||Our room itself was lovely and we had adequate storage space. I loved that the hotel gives you a refillable glass bottle of water. We filled it up at the lovely fountain outside so many times since we were dehydrated from our flight and train ride.||I would be remiss if I didn't speak about the staff. One of the kind blonde women helped us secure passage to Murano, where she is from, and we had a great time there.||I want to especially call out Nana who works in the evening. She was instrumental in helping us find restaurants and secure reservations (including twice to Rossa Rosa, which you shouldn't sleep on). Nana goes above and beyond, which is clear to any guest. She made me feel so welcome in this establishment.||If you go to Venice, you simply must stay at the Hotel Flora. We found it very convenient when attending a show at La Fenice. Plenty of restaurants around. We stayed at five hotels in Italy over a 2.5-week period, and this was my favorite.||Warmly,||Alison (Parker) Dillehay and husband Joe|Stayed: 21 March - 24 March, 2025

Could not have asked for more. Luxury feel but also felt like I'd gone back in time, in a good way. Rustic, yet boutique Great friendly staff, fab location. The softest bedsheets known to man..a very luxurious and relaxing place

Amazing hotel, staff and service. Thank you to the friendly staff: Giouelle, Marco and Nur. Prime location to see Venice’s key sites. A beautiful tranquil garden welcomes you after being in the busy streets of Venice! Delicious pastries and coffee. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay here at Hotel Flora, thank you to all the staff especially Nazanin for the city recommendations. We will definitely come back to this hotel next time we are in Venice.

Google
An absolute little gem of a hotel and the perfect base for our explorations of Venice. The interior epitomises the notion of taking care of what you have as opposed to needlessly building over the top of it. The staff were so friendly and helpful too.

Yelp
Hotel Flora was a great place to stay in Venice and I would stay here again. The rooms were roomy and comfortable. The courtyard was a great place to either have breakfast or drinks in the later afternoon/evening. The staff was great, in particular Nicoletta and Christian and they easily helped facilitate restaurant reservations as well. The location was excellent, a short walk to St. Mark's Square.

Yelp
Can't find their sister property, Hotel Novecento, so we'll rate it here. Smashing! Lovely staff especially the young lady at breakfast, quite possibly the happiest and kindest person I have ever met. Room superb. Location amazing. Only downside was the impossibly tiny shower, large enough for a one-legged flamingo. Regardless, highly recommended. Sadly, we won't be back to the Novecento because we think we'd try the family flagship Hotel Flora on a subsequent visit. Bravo Venizia! Thank you for your hospitality, beauty, and wonderful memories. We'll be back.

Yelp
Very charming Lobby and veranda. This hotel seems to be a cute boutique hotel . When I entered our room, it was very rustic. The mattress was saggy and uncomfortable.Almost like the maids quarters! The wood beams had some dust strings hanging down and there was small flies in the corridor that came into the room. Then the huge spider was in sight! This room was not like our family members room . Their room was beautiful the bed comfy. Both bathrooms were nice and comfy. I asked if I can change rooms and arrogantly was denied. I know that this is Europe but seeing the other room I feel like my room is not the standard of the other rooms compared to the other reviews . I will update my review

Yelp
We are very pleased with our choice for our stay in Venice. The rooms are not large but they are comfortable. The staff are very willing to assist you in any way they can. The location near St. Marks Square is very convenient. During our stay they had a wonderful breakfast for us. We have had a great time.

Yelp
We were hesitant about staying in Venice. My husband had a traumatizing experience as a child and went through reviews and photos with a fine-toothed comb before finding this little gem. The hotel is about a 2-minute walk from Piazza San Marco. It's at the end of a narrow hall which leads to some of the best, high-end shopping in Venice. Please note, this property is NOT on the water, and sometimes that can be a good thing (no mosquitos, for starters...) We were immediately checked-in upon arrival, just before 1pm. Our room was ready and we were given the option of elevator or stairs. The hotel gives you the feeling of being transported to another era, with it's antique décor and classic service. I found most of Venice to be this way and I loved it. The room was nicely appointed. Perfectly made-up bed and you could tell it was going to be comfortable. Clean, crisp white duvet and pillows. The room was spacious, although the bathroom could have been just a tad bigger. The towels smelled delicious. Not just clean, they had the very faint smell of lavender with the hotel's logo on them. Very lush. The bathroom was clean and everything functioned properly. There is a small note on behalf of the family and it was nice to find small details like that. Our window overlooked the long, narrow hallway which led to stores such as Bulgari and Loro Piana. Now to the breakfast - which is included. One of the best breakfasts we had on our entire 3-week trip. It is served buffet style, in stations. In the center of the room you have baked goods - croissants, breads, cakes, cookies, etc. Along the walls you have different styles of eggs (some are hard-boiled heart-shaped, yes, heart-shaped), bacon, breakfast meats, cold meats, etc. Next we move on to the cheese selection, jams, puddings, fresh fruit, yogurts and parfaits. They also had about 3-4 different types of juices and coconut water. I could go on. You have the option of sitting indoors or out on the terrace. Outside is just lovely - but beware of the pigeons! They have absolutely no shame in picking at your perfect heart-shaped egg! Once you're seated, they will take your hot beverage order and bring out some of the prettiest designed cappuccinos you've ever had. On our last morning, we headed to the airport at 6:45am. Knowing that, the staff mentioned the night before that they would put out a few selections for us to enjoy before we left. This is where they got me. Breakfast didn't begin until 7 or 7:30. I was expecting a cup of coffee and stale croissant. No - he made sure to have a few things ready for us and those croissants were straight out of the oven!! They also brought us cheeses, jams, cured meats and a few other things, plus my beautiful cappuccino. This is where they went ABOVE AND BEYOND. 5 Stars and A++ on service, cleanliness, location - everything. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
This place is just OK. Had to cross 2 bridges to make the "short walk" from the airport boat with my 89 yr old Dad wrangling his 2 carry on bags. Today (day2) A/C broke while we were out for the day, came back to a darned hot room 27.7 Celsius. Tried to cool it and it went up to 29. Informed front desk when leaving for dinner. Returned to more hot air blowing and room now sauna-like 29.9 Celsius. Went to inform desk clerk, not there. Bar man said it was fixed 30 min ago, and has the repairman, who was chatting with him, come up to the room with me. He switched off the thermostat and said open the window. That's not exactly fixed in my book. After getting bitten by mosquitos for 2 nights with the window closed, I can only imagine what could happen tonight. Three trips to Italy in three years. If we come back to Venice we won't stay here again.

Yelp
Great boutique hotel in the heart of Venice. Easy walk from vaporretto stop from airport. Beautiful clean room with great amenities. Breakfast buffet or afternoon drinks on the garden courtyard out of the hustle of the streets. Concierge gave great advice in English as to wonderful restaurants and transportation. I will hopefully stay here again.

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 nights. 3 minutes minutes walk to San Marco square and to water bus. So no problem going to the airport (only 15 euro compare to taxi which is 110). Our flight was 0655a, earliest water bus was 0350a. Breakfast was really good, staff was nice and helpful. Hotel is little bit old but very very clean. Will stay here again next time.

Yelp
Hotel Flora is a quaint, quiet hotel with a beautiful courtyard and very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was extensive and delicious. The hotel's location is excellent, being in the heart of the city with high-end shopping and walking distance to major sites, but off the beaten path, so you are able to decompress without a lot of loud tourists around. I do not know his name, but the morning/day front desk attendant was very helpful, even getting us tickets to a Vivaldi concert at a local church. It was the perfect ending to our time in wonderful Venice.

Yelp
I chose the smallest room they had to save money, and it was still lovely. Very pretty place, amazing location, and very sweet, helpful staff. They were completely patient with my failed attempts to speak Italian and always friendly. You guys, they had scrambled eggs at breakfast! A very nice US home comfort while away.
